Ok, some of you know I referee football at the High School and Div III levels. There was a helmet-to-helmet hit on a player: Targeting and initiating contact with the crown of the helmet, or striking another player in the crown or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, elbow or shoulder. The problem I have is the ruling by the governing official(s) on the review. There was no malicious intent and there was no ‘targeting’ involved since the offensive player (QB) lowered their helmet in the process of gaining an advantage. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Also, the rule is supposed to be enforced on the offensive player if the player leads or initiates contact with the crown of the helmet ‘OUTSIDE OF THE TACKLES’. Clearly, the review officials got this call wrong. <o></o>

IF there is a silver lining in this, be happy it was in the first half. If that call is in the second half, Tuitt is gone for the next game ~ another part of the ruling I do not understand......

Everytime we don't run a twist, our DEs blow by the QB and might as well not even be in the play, opening up a wide open middle for the QB to step into.
