True cupcakes have been and will continue to be completely undervalued. If you play FSU + Bama + 3 true cupcakes it's the same net odds of going 5-0 as playing 3 "Louisville" equivalent schools plus Navy and Rice. In the former, people would go "OMG GREAT WINS OVER BIG TEAMS" and in the latter they'd say "you haven't beaten anyone..."

Even though both stretches would be the same difficulty to complete undefeated.

Look at Alabama's schedule from 2012. They beat UM and Miss St who both ended up with 5 losses. A good but not great LSU and a really good Georgia. Lost to the best team on the schedule in A&M. But people talked about surviving the SEC "gauntlet" for months. And they had 3 absolute cup cakes on the schedule too.

I present to you the 2012 Georgia football schedule:
-Buffalo Bulls
-@ Missouri Tigers
-Florida Atlantic Owls
-Vanderbilt Commodores
-Tennessee Volunteers
-@ South Carolina Gamecocks (they got throttled in that game and lost 35-7)
-@ Kentucky Wildcats
-Florida Gators (a win that looked impressive but the Gators got blown out against Louisville in the Sugar Bowl and have looked really bad since)
-Ole Miss Rebels
-@ Auburn Tigers (the Tigers were horrible that year)
-Georgia Southern Eagles
-Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

UGA started that season with anywhere from 5-7 wins in the bank essentially. With that schedule if you don't go 11-1 at the minimum you completely suck.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Alabama because they are a really good program and that 2012 team was tremendous... However Alabama's schedule almost works the opposite of ND's in that ND's looks killer at the beginning of the year and then doesn't always live up to the hype. But ND tries their hardest to schedule really competitively and tries to have a tough schedule.

Whereas Alabama only plays a super tough schedule on accident. Going into this year Alabama's schedule looked pretty tame but now only looks like a gauntlet because Ole Miss decided to have their once in a generation good season and Miss. St. decided to have their first ever good season in the same year. WVU is currently their best win but again that was accidental too as WVU normally isn't very good but they're pretty tough this year.
