Come on P. First it was 100% TL would play, now we're for sure losing to a backup.

You really have zero hope don't you lol.
I was wrong on TL, admittedly. I have big game PTSD my dude. Many of us do.

I think it will be close. I just don't see our D giving up a ton.
Our D is literally our only saving grace. But that said, we haven't played anyone remotely on Clemson's level this year, so I'll reserve excitement. I want to be wrong. Trust me.

I have the same big game PTSD too. We've played UGA tight the last two times, so I see this as a similar game. I think this is the best set of DBs we've had for a while, so my hopes are a bit higher than against UGA those years.

If we had a better group of WRs I'd be more confident. My biggest fear honestly is that our OL struggles.

I agree right here but i think their defense is much better than our offense. If you can't score you can't win.

My conspiracy prediction.... Tommy has been holding back on the fun stuff, and some of the routes. I also think we'll see some new sets. I mean, BK even said they are looking ahead. If we don't see some new looks I'll be very disappointed.

Personally, I want to see some heavy packages with Skow, Mayer, Tremble, WR2 (Javon or a burner), and Tyree in the slot.

But I do agree their D is better than our O overall. I think our OL is going to struggle.

I understand the Clemson QB is a 5 star and put up some good numbers today at home against BC. But BC defense is not this Notre Dame defense. BC gave up 21 to Texas State, gave up 26 to UNC, gave up 30 to that awful Pitt team, gave up 40 to Va Tech and gave up 27 to Georgia Tech.

You all really think the true freshman in his second start on the road in a night game against this Notre Dame defense will light it up? BC doesn’t have a Daelin Hayes, Ade O, Foskey, MTA, JOK, Kyle Hamilton, Shawn Crawford. ND defense cause some confusion, get some negative plays, a few turnovers to help the ND offense. The ND offense pounds the rock, ball control and own time of possession and hit a few plays down field.

I’m feeling a competitive game with a very good chance the Irish win.

Can't find my original prediction, but ever since the ACC schedule was announced, I felt like we'd play Clemson twice, win once, and still miss the playoff. Feeling better about it with each passing day.

The PTSD is real here. It's just, how can we get super hyped as ND fans? Yes, this is the best opportunity for ND to beat a big team in a LONG time, but we always fall short. I'm 30, so I didnt get to see the Holtz or before eras. All I've seen is opportunities come up like this and we fail. 20 some years of conditioning have just beat me down. Hope I'm wrong. I really do. I want to see us beat a top dog SO bad.

In short, yes. Losing these type of games is just what we do. Book is not good enough to put up the points we'd need to beat Clemson.

I want to see more Tyree. He looks excellent in his moments. He has that sudden burst through a hole that we haven’t had in years.

Here's my two cents...

- Book isn't going to correct his accuracy problems in a week and he is facing the best defense he has seen this season.

- The running game is going to get shut down and they will force us to throw the ball to win. I just don't see Book and our WR corps carrying us to a win.

- Their game plan today was perfect for who they had at QB. Short throws to start and then in the second half they opened up the playbook more for some down the field throws.

- Our offensive play calling is and was today again very vanilla. I hope we add something different but really what else can we do with the resources we have. The OL had a tough time pass blocking today and you know Book can't sit in the pocket and pick apart a defense.

- When have we showed up for a game when it really matters? This game gives me the Alabama NC game flash backs, great defense but no offense going into the game and we never showed up.

I've got years on you, but feel the same. We're due though. And with a backup QB my hopes are better than usual. I posted in another thread about expectations being lulled to sleep by the past ten years. Even if we beat them with a back up QB, we'll still have to play them with Trevor later lol. So my long term hopes are still the same.

So you believe with a true freshman QB, starting his second game on the road at night, against a very damn good Notre Dame defense that Clemson will still roll Notre Dame?

I just think the ND defense will keep the game close and ND offense will try ball control and control the clock.

Gameday will be in South Bend

I don’t even watch them anymore. I prefer the Fox show. I’m just thankful I don’t have to hear Herbstreit & Fowler to the broadcast. Not that I think Herbie is anti-ND...I don’t. Just too many big games where they’ve been in the booth and end up talking about other subjects b/c the game is over by half.

I hope and pray that I am wrong however I don't buy the night game and second start and all that stuff that gives many ND fans hope. Our defense is good but they aren't great yet, we haven't played anyone to make me think that they are great.

I don’t think the defense has to be all time great. It’s the best defense Clemson will have seen this year. Lea will throw some looks at the QB that he has never seen before to confusion him. And we will see how this kid handles pressure being on the road.

No one on here is talking about him, but I think even with T Lawrence out, I fear getting gashed by Etienne. Dude doesn't get enough credit for their success. Though many or most of us have big game PTSD, I feel a little better after watching BC move the ball on them. Clemson was probably looking past BC to ND. We will still lose by 30. PTSD? Just now looking at stats from Clemson vs G Tech, Clemson allowed 123 yds rushing vs GT, ND just 88. The big difference, other than winning margin of 18 vs 66 though, is Clemson had 500yds passing to NDs 199. (with Trevor) This post is all over the place, who knows what to expect.

I don't think that their QB will light it up but i believe that Clemson's offense and our defense are real close in competition. But our Offense and their defense isn't as close. I hope to god that i am wrong. I think it'll be decided by under 10 points.

Reps. Etienne is scary out of the backfield and today he became ACC's all time leading rusher. He is fast and a great receiver out of the backfield, but also a great leader that the team the young FR QB will lean on to get him out of a jam. I dont like comparing numbers but you bring up a good point with the passing yard comparison against GT. The difference with the FR at QB is he just needs to be efficient and put the ball in his play makers hands to be successful. ND doesn't have the threat at WR for Clemson's defense to be scared IMO. I think Venables feels comfortable committing to shutting down NDs run and putting pressure on Book to make him beat them. I think their defensive game plan will reflect the CFP game honestly.

Honestly, I've just enjoyed watching the Irish this year. The fact that we can even dream about competing with Clemson is a something ND fans should enjoy. Remember the Weis and Willingham years? ND has the longest current FBS win streak, and a solid 20+ home streak. The offense still frustrates at times, but this team is feels like its on the verge. Being an Irish fan since about 1987, I appreciate when ND has a chance against any team at all. Bring on Clemson, win or lose, the chance is there.

Trust me I want to get my hopes up and keep the faith but there have been too many let downs for me to be sold. I will root for the Irish always but just don't want to keep feeling let down again and again and again.

ND’s defense has done what’s been asked of it. Even in the close (score wise) win over UL, the defense held the Cardinals to only 7 points. That rarely gets pointed out by the non-ND pundits.

I think Lea has to focus on containing Etienne. Contain him and make the rookie beat you w/ his arm. Not saying that’s an easy task based on what he did to BC but can he do it two weeks in a row as a true frosh? Lea & company need to make him prove it.

After a slow start Uiagalelei missed 3 passes the entire 2nd half, 30/41 for the game and 342 yards passing. Pretty good outing for his first start, he definitely got better as the game went on. I don't think Clemson is going to miss Lawrence as bad as I thought, but I do hope our defense comes ready to play.

This is why kids like PJ leave because they don't get a true chance to show their skills. Some kids are game time players and we don't give our young kids an opportunity to show it.

Sorry, but that's on the kids.

Your chance to show your skills isn't something you're entitled to, it's something you EARN.

PJ had to show in practice that he was worthy of showing his skills, because that's how it works at virtually every program. PJ did not do that.

I mean, we act like Kelly is unwilling to pull his QB for the backup. I mean, that's how Book got the gig to begin with. Book took over for a starter who was 12-3, and got the team to 3-0 to start the year, including beating Michigan.

Maybe PJ needs to just be given the reigns to succeed, but I'm not going to pull my starting QB and leader for a guy who consistently plays worse than him. That sullies the legitimacy of the meritocracy you must establish as a coach. Sure, it could work out, but it could also backfire and create rifts similar to what we saw in 2016.

As for JJ, we've seen him one time in 2020 and when he got on the field, he thought he was in Punch Out. I want to see him as much as everybody else, but he clearly has things he needs to figure out both on and off the field before that happens. It's frustrating, but it is what it is.

I do really want Kelly to just let it rip with JJ, but again, it's not like Kelly is against playing young guys, as we've seen with Mayer, Kyren and Tyree.
