I'll say it. I'd trade Hector, Jones & Porter for ND's CB's as long as Watts isn't being considered for corner. All day.

None of them are top 20 recruits, none of them have ND offers, and we have 3 CBs committed. You don't just take bodies to have bodies.

It's fine to not like who ND recruited at the position, but in full transparency the staff basically made a decision after missing on the few top-of-board targets they liked to go after athleticism+length. We'll see what happens, but here's some food for thought:

Of the top 5 CBs taken last year, none were 5-star prospects. Only two were 4-star players. Two were completely unrated and one was a low 3 star. Analysts are absolutely horrible evaluating CB prospects in HS, because most of the guys with the most potential are playing multiple positions or not even really playing on the defensive side of the ball. So when you get to the next level, the best players end up simply being plus athletes who could play multiple positions and develop technique at CB in college.

Is Shaw going to ride this gig out in the trees until retirement?

I doubt Stanford gets bored with him. Certainly, the five bushes (fans) in the stands aren’t going to complain about losses.

In no world are we better off with Stanford as a winning program. The only game I ever want to see them win is if and when they play Michigan. Which reminds me - f*** Michigan!

Well, here's one world we'd be better off: If Stanford was Pac-12 Champs good this year, beating them in our last game would really help our case to make the playoffs.
Instead we'll end the season beating up a nobody (or, worse, losing to one) while all the other playoff contenders rack up marquee wins.

or we just take them off our future schedule entirely until they are phased out ... who would we add if we gave them the boot? Oklahoma? I would love to play Oklahoma over Stanford every year, hands down.

We'll never remove Stanford from the schedule. It'd cost us our annual post-regular season recruiting trip on the West Coast.

Not necessarily true, if ND was creative with neutral site games with Navy, etc.

I think the solution is on alternating years to play someone like Navy or Hawaii on the west coast to cap the season.

Why In the world would you want to play OU every year?

Okay, maybe not every year. But it would be intriguing to have them on our schedule more frequently because of the competition, recruiting, and to shut the critics up about our scheduling. Plus, no David Shaw’s smug face. Could we hang? Shouldn’t we be able to if we’re a legit team?

Ending the season with Hawaii every year would be awesome just to establish a pipepline with the Samoan players.

Agree on Stanford. We should want them to be perenially terrible. ND being the only game in town for kids that want to play school is huge for recruiting. Just take Stanford's top 3 recruits every year and ND would have top 3-5 classes instead of top 10-15.

It’s not just about playing on the West Coast. It’s about ending the season with a quality win, when we don’t have the opportunity to do so in a conference title game like most playoff contenders. Playing Hawaii, or Navy in San Diego, doesn’t do that the way Stanford can if they’re good.

As for scheduling some other big-time team that weekend, most schools worth playing are already locked in with a major natural rival on Thanksgiving weekend. We’re lucky to have the deal we have with USC and Stanford, TBH.

If you play Hawaii first game of the year as a week 0 game, you're allowed to play a 13th game. I've thought that would be a good idea for a warm up game and experience.

Both Costello and Mills are questionable this weekend against WSU.

On the OL, with Little, Hamilton and Hattis out for the season, three Freshmen are starting (Rouse at LT, Miller and Hornibrook at Gs) and another Freshman, Nugent, is listed at backup at C and both Gs positions.

Seeing how he's projected to be a late 1st round pick by some people makes me hang my head that he was once committed here.

Him and how close we were to getting Thomas Graham :(

and their offense is a bit one dimensional. Leading rusher today has 10 yards..on one carry...and he's a wideout.

Anyone know what the options are going to be for watching the game? I looked that the weekend schedule and it is saying the start time is TBD. When I look at the nationally televised games (ABC, the ESPN networks), most of the slots are full at noon, 3:30 and 7:30. Also saw that there is a TBD for the Oklahoma-Oklahoma St game, meaning that the one unfilled slot, (7:30, ABC) may go to them.

Initial spread from Vegas is ND -14.5

As Rakes pointed out to Sampson, FEI and SP+ likely larger than that.

I will be home from deployment and I am really considering driving up from San Diego to go to the game.

Anyone have a tailgate spot I can hang out at if I do make the drive?
