People really need to watch out for this BC defense. They'll likely give us a lot of fits. It took a lot of big plays/broken plays for Clemson to hang 34 on them. Watson was hit plenty and threw 2 picks.

They are #1 in total yards allowed, tied at #9 for team sacks (31; Notre Dame is tied down at #71), #1 in total TFLs, #1 rush defense (holding opponents to an average of 71.7ypg), #2 in 3rd down percentage (.233), tied for #2 in 4th down percentage (.200), #1 in 1st down defense, #5 in passing yards allowed, #9 in team passing efficiency defense, #5 in punt return defense, and tied for #2 for blocked punts (3).

And despite their anemic offense, they still run the ball so damn much that they are in the top 50 for TOP. You have to consistently get their offense 3 and out or else they can really make almost any game a ball game with their defense and special teams play.

Actually, people really need to watch out for the ND Coaching Staff. If they call the right game, the Irish have the teeth to leave this defense in the dust. But they better be able to adopt a new approach to the situation.

I am very hopeful this will happen with Mike Sanford on board, and Brian Kelly apologizing for selling Wake so short, and trying a numb response (as far as adjustments : see conservative) to their defensive game plan.

I said earlier that this game worries me...and for all of the reasons Beau lays out here. I've never seen a team with so much strength on defense and so weak on offense. We need to stretch the field early and our O-Line is going to have to play their best game IMO.

I'll be ashamed if we don't rush for more than 72 yards. Their pass D doesn't concern me. Wake and Clemson had the best pass coverage we may see all year. Both games coach didn't trust throwing early. Clemson we opened up and still threw it decent. We never really had to vs wake. While BCs pass D #s look good nationally I don't see their DBs being the athletes our WRs are.

Add in a true frosh walk on at qb for BC and this is a cake walk.

If the wake game showed us anything, its that the "3 yards and a cloud" is effective in keeping our O off field but that you still won't beat us if u aren't multiple in the red zone. Which BC won't be.

Go Irish!

I read earlier this week that they average less than 10 pass attempts per game. It was like 9.7 or something. This game would worry me more if they had a dominant run game, but, they don't. I just don't see them being able to block our DL consistently with two true freshmen on the OL (LT and RG).

BC may be without their best CB, Isaac Yiadom, tonight. I've read it's unlikely he'll play due to a shoulder injury, but I can't find anything that confirms he's out. If he doesn't play, a true freshman steps into the starting role for him.

As an aside on Yiadom, my HS played against his two years ago and his speed is legit, but the fact he's already starting is more an indictment on the DB depth than a testament to how good he is. I didn't think he was that good when we played him.

I expect our offense to do what Clemson did to this defense (i.e. 500+ yards and 34+ points).

Getting ready to head to the T station and head to Fenway.

Anyone know if they will be serving beer at Fenway?

did cardinal O'malley show up?

also do we know if doug flutie will be on the call tonight especially after the death of his parents?
Jenkins said the Mass with an entourage of Holy Cross priests. Word from Boston sports talk is that Flutie will be calling the game.

I THINK so. I was down by Fenway earlier and they were selling beer at Fan Fest, which is the ND-run pep rally thing. Most of the Fenway food and whatnot was shut down but I assume it's because I was super early. The bars all have lines out the doors. I'm out in Chelsey right now getting dinner with the wife and then driving in. Got a parking pass right at Lansdowne and Ipswich.

Stupid good "seat" (standing room). I'm three feet from the broadcast booth and there's a beer stand on the other side of me.

there looks like enough room to have benches on both sides. Why did the choose to go with one?

The sod on the infield dirt looks dubious. Watch for slippage on the left side of the 50.

After watching pregame.. It really makes me wonder why they have both teams on the same sideline; other than to create drama..
