Shutout!! Nice. Being greedy I would have liked 1 more touchdown or at least that missed field goal going through the uprights. Oh well, we more than covered the spread and pitched our first shutout of the season! We've more than held serve, we got a few "style points" and kept the pressure on Oregon and KSU.

We won, and I'm thrilled. I'm also happy we didn't keep adding touchdowns to make us look better. We won convincingly but didn't pour it on unnecessarily.

Obviously I would have loved to see us win 59-0, which easily could have happened, but it was a smart move by BK to bring in the backups. Very happy with both sides of the ball today!

Not sure who all caught the end of the USC game (was switching over during commercials), but I thought they showed a lack of class spiking the ball with 2 seconds left when they were down by 10.

Kiffin showing a lack of class? Well I never...

So there's that, deflating the balls before Oregon game, switching #'s against Colorado, banning the reporter from practice for reporting, and lying about voting his team #1 in the coaches poll.

Add to that, he just fired his father.

I really liked how Kelly made sure the Martins and the Golics were able to have a play or two together. That's something they will be able to share for the rest of their lives. Overall a great win. Took care of business like they should have.

I don't know about the rest of you who made it to the game (sorry I didn't get to meet any of you) but my experience this weekend with my oldest two children was phenomenal. I met Reggie Brooks and Tony Rice (pictured with my daughter in my avatar) who autographed my kids hats.

Then watching K State and Oregon go down later that night just capped off a fantastic weekend. and I won the contest at our hotel for guessing the closest to the game score. I guesses 38-6. Got a $25 gift card.

Nonw let's go, BEAT USC!

Congrats TN. Looks like your daughter had an amazing experience. You're quite the father for giving her that opportunity.

I am finally awake after our 13 hour drive back home after the game last night. We got home this morning & I must say, my bed sure felt good! Ha! I have been trying to come up with the words to describe our trip to Notre Dame, but NONE of them do the trip justice. We were amazed at how friendly and helpful whatwouldyoufightforeveryone around South Bend was. We were not expecting Southern hospitality. Walking down the tunnel and seeing the field, I can not describe the emotions that ran thru me. "All of the great one's have stepped where I am stepping", kept running thru my mind. All of the history and the tradition. Whew, I have chill bumps now just remembering it. The pep rally is where things went from extremely awesome to ________! I can not think of a word or words to express how much better it was, so I will just share our experience. This was nothing more than God blessing my family.
Here goes,
We sit down at the pep rally & me being from the South, I start up a conversation with the man sitting beside me. He is there with his daughter, a former student, and her child. Well, my daughter & his grand daughter start playing & they are having a big ole time as the pep rally is getting ready to begin. (I am going to call this man Joe, that's not his name, but I do t feel comfortable telling who he really is) Well, Joe and I are talking ND football & we are going back and forth on great moments in history, when my wife decides to join in and she tells about her clumsy husband and my accident, about how this had been my dream & how she got these tickets to celebrate recovering and as a reward for finishing a year of phys therapy. By now the players are about to come out and Joe's daughter says, "OK baby, here comes Daddy!" I honestly thought I had either Misheard her whatwouldyoufightforor I was asleep, dreaming and the SI swimsuit models were about to pop out. Joe is looking at my wife & I and he has a sly grin & he says, "yeah, we didn't say anything earlier because we were having a good time seeing the excitement in you guys faces." Well, as the pep rally is ending, Joe asks Hannah (my 6 yr old) if she would like to meet some of those players she and her parents had just been cheering for. I think I may have pee'd myself a little when I heard that. Hannah grins real big and says she would love to. I can physically not speak! I am just standing there, frozen! My wife says we do not want to impose, it's family time. Joe tells us that the guys will love meeting us. They will enjoy seeing your excitement. We follow them to the hotel and the players arrive about a half an hour later. We are sitting a table with 3 starters parents. They are firing more questions at us than we are at them. It was indescribable! They would ask, have you guys saw this? Done this? Would you like for us to help you? As the players are walking in, Mom's are getting big hugs & I told my wife that we needed to go because I did NOT want to interrupt family time. Joe over heard me & said no way that we were leaving yet. My daughter & ?'s daughter were having a big time playing, he said. "Plus, you guys drove 13 hours to get here to see these guys & you are going to meet them before you leave!" I am quite certain that some kind of body fluid came out that time!! The next thing you know, Joe is bringing players over to meet us and get a pic with Hannah. I had bought a calender, & I had it out because one of the parents wanted to know what game we were coming to next season. Players just started signing it!!!! I don't know how to post the pics I took with my phone or I would put them here now. I haven't downloaded the images from our camera yet. I will figure it out & post them ASAP

One thing that struck me as funny was that my daughter and I werethe last ones to meet Reggie and Tony. After that I went to the bathroom and Tony Rice came in behind me and was talking to folks but I'm pretty sure they had no idea who they were in line to pew with.

No, I did not take any pictures of him peeing...that he knows about.

Cool story. I had one very similar with jimmy clausens dad. We were at the Georgia tech game Jimmy's freshman year watching the band play on the steps. My wife and I and our nine month old son sat down by the trees next to an older man and woman who had there shoes off just kicked back listening to the band. My son started crawling around and the guy said "he going to be a football player one day?" I said I sure hope so, maybe he'll even play here at Notre Dame. He then said "you know, dreams do come true. I had two sons play at the university of Tennessee and one playing here right now." Right then and there I knew he was clausens father. He took us to the Gug to meet jimmy outside where we spoke with him for a few minutes and got a few autographs. Awesome experience. I'd be curious to know which players parents you ran into.

Great win ND...looked like a Top 5 team, let alone #1, dismantling an inferior team at home...the way it should be.

Got emotional when Manti ran out of the tunnel and how the announcer built it up and him hugging his parents and his dads words to him.

Crazy to think this is what seems to be the majority reason why Manti stayed for this one moment. Watching him embrace it was something else.

Great victory. It was a pleasure watching these seniors become the foundation of the revitalization of the ND football program and I will surely miss them.

I remember my first ND game experience...against Syracuse...yup...Syracuse...snow...snowballs...Manti's official visit...my last game experience was this year against BYU...bright...sunny..great football weather...victory. Seems like the way the program was at to where it is now.

What ever team drafts Manti will be a favorite of mine and I will be first in line to buy his jersey.

On to USC now.

I'm very happy for you. I know I would have to run to Wal Mart to get some new underwear. I know it's obvious to everyone on this board, but this is exactly what makes Notre Dame so special.

Good article from Keith. Lately it's been lots of Good, not much for Bad and Ugly.

The Good

Clearing out the bench. Want to see a thing of beauty? How about the participation report from Saturday. Check out some of the names on there, including:

Charlie Fiessinger
Joe Romano
Nick Fitzpatrick
Jake Golic
Blake Breslau
Andrew Hendrix
Ben Councell
Eric Lee
Connor Calavaris
Conor Hanratty
Bruce Heggie
Dennis Mahoney
Nick Martin

At one point, two sets of brothers were on the field at the same time, with Jake and Mike Golic and Nick and Zack Martin all in the offensive huddle. A nice moment for two families that won’t easily be forgotten.
