On the ND vs FSU post game conference, Kelly basically said that Wimbush is a starter and why are we even talking about Book or something along that line. Based on that, I really thought he would keep the element of surprise going to make Syracuse have to prep for potential 2 different QBs. The fact that Ian Book is already announced ready to play on Saturday (something we knew 99.99% but not definitely) I am surprised by the announcement this early on the week. I was thinking keep Syracuse in the dark till its game day on who is the starter.

He also asked, "what is a QB controversy"? It's a great question for all the numb nuts.....

Maybe Wimbush IS starting, and we're gonna make them think Book is back in?

I mentioned about three weeks ago that this game was my biggest concern for the remainder of the schedule. BK has emphasized winning in November and I do like the mental makeup of this team, but they have a team that can put up points. Another fast start would set the tone for Syracuse.

This game will depend on a lot on how the defense response to Syracuse’s high paced offense.

Syracuse offense ranked #11 total yards per game against ND defense ranked #21 total yards per game. Conversely, ND offense ranked #24 total yards per game against Syracuse defense ranked #99 per game. Without miscues, ND's offense should not have trouble moving the ball. HOPEFULLY though, the D will be there to work their magic and "control" Syracuse's offense and scoring opportunities!

The Irish are soooo close, yet so far away from fulfilling one helluva regular season slate!

I think we'll have a bend but not break philosphy for this game against Syracuse. I think we'll see Syracuse put up big yards but be held to more FG's than TD's

I agree. I expect this to be a fairly frustrating game to watch but ultimately ND comes out on top. I think it'll be close and I will be yelling at the defense quite a bit.

I'm glad they shunned it - playing in Yankee Stadium wearing pinstripes in November with an undefeated season on the line is going to be hard to stomach. At least the weather looks nice - mid 40s partly cloudy.

They did CGD at Time Square before and it was terrible. Other than having it on a battleship for Army-Navy, CGD should always be on a campus IMO.

On paternity leave this month so scouting Syracuse this AM.

Alohi Gilman will have the opportunity to be a difference maker this game. Hell have a lot of chances to get hits on the QB on the RPOs/QB keepers.

Hes my choice for defensive player of the game.

I think the key to this game is to get pressure on Dungey, enough to make him make a few mistakes. I'd like to see some different Blitz packages thrown at him. One thing we need to watch is him taking off and running we really haven't faced a running QB yet this year .

Coming over from the USC thread...

I hope ND has the statement game we've really been waiting for. Not just to quiet the media, not just to satisfy the committee, but to make Lynn Swan think Babers isn't the right guy for SC. He's the last guy I'd want to see in LA when the Helton Inn closes its doors.

Dungey is only a 60% passer so IDK where that racks up with QB's we have faced this year

Wimbush is 53.5% and everyone thinks he is a scrub, he can run better than Dungey and yet ND fans think Dungey is a Heisman contender from the comments I've seen.

But add 70 yards on the ground and another TD rushing per game and the 60% w/ only 5 Int's. The most important stat is the 44 ppg he leads them to = 7th in the Nation.

Dungey is a gamer. He plays big in their biggest games. And opposing QBs tend to do that to ND anyway so that makes me nervous.

Will Syracuse even be able to stop our offense?

On paper, no. But as we all know the games aren't played on paper. The biggest concern with Syracuse is that they're conceivably the first team that can get to 30+ points on ND, so the offense will have to show up. The only team Syracuse hasn't scored 30+ on this year was Clemson.

If this was a home game, I'd feel very confident. But it's conceivable to think that on weird turf in dumb uniforms on a neutral site that if a couple calls don't go our way and a couple bounces don't go our way Syracuse could come out on top 35-31 or something like that.

I think this is a game where Chip Long and the offense might play a little slower as long as it doesn't negatively impact the rhythm. Cuse does have a good offense, but they can't score if they are on the sideline. I don't expect multiple 8+ minute drives, but I think that if the offense can have multiple 4-6 minute drives then that will help the defense immensely.

Don't they try and do a G5 or FCS game ever year?
