I just dumped money on ND -5.5 and the over, but I'm banking on ND hanging 40 on these guys and VA's offense still moving the ball easily as it has much of the year. If Armstrong, Kemp, and Taulapapa are all out or doubtful or at best, less than 100%, I'm wondering if ND's defense can keep them under 25 points...?

haha just mentioned the same thing in the prediction thread. I'm there with you, ND covers with the Over.

Virginia's defense is atrocious at best. They allowed 734 yards to BYU and 570 to Georgia Tech. Virginia is ranked 122nd against the rush allowing 5.7 ypc. The Irish line is getting better by the week and with two TE's on the field in the set, Diggs, Tyree and possibly Williams (along with some jet sweeps) should get some solid play. The 'Wild Card' will be QB play. I seriously believe Drew Pyne should get in there and that will really confuse the defense on some run plays. They know Coan is probably 10-15% to run (at best), Buchner 60-70%, but have no idea what Pyne would/will do. I know the probability is close to nil that Pyne will see any action but, if BK wants a solid back-up for next year and doesn't want to show all of Buchner's abilities, Pyne would be good in RPO plays keeping it on the ground or RPO simple dump to Mayer for 3-4 yards.

And as far as the defense, Freeman had the boys ready for Navy. He's also progressing each week a little better in game planning/calling and Navy proved it. Tackling was much better last week and the adjustment on the D-Line surprised many of us (don't sit there and not believe that with many of you going to be 'Pissed' if you watched a 3-man front - which we did not see).

I'm not saying this game is going to be a 'cake-walk'. Virginia is at home, Prime-time and National TV. Another 'Super Bowl' game for a team that is going to come out guns blazing.

I'm actually worried ND's defense can get VA offense below season averages across the board with their QB, WR, and RB all possible hurt. If I find out these guys aren't playing, I might cash out and just put ND -14 or something

Edit -14 (not +14....my bad)

Why no faith in the ND defense?

I haven't dug deeply into this VA team, but looking at their season and hearing the way folks talk about this offense I expected higher scores for them. The middle stretch of their season where they played defenses that were just OK, they didn't really put up big scoring numbers. Only 17 points against Wake Forest? Just 30 against Miami? ND put more points on UNC than Virginia did. Seems to me that this VA team has really taken advantage of the games where the opposing defense was awful. ND by 50!

My posts were referencing the Over bet I made. VA appears less than 100% on offense so ND should keep them in check. The question is if ND's offense will score 38+ to cover the difference and let me hit the over because I don't think VA scores more than their season average in this game (and it could be well below it given the injuries).

Edit: I saw I had a significant typo in that post. ND -14 if VA doesn't play their QB, top WR, or RB...(and I'd think the over might be in jeopardy too)

Sorry for the confusion

all ND has to do on defense is get a few stops and a turnover. NDs offense i feel will lean heavy on the run game (UVA is giving up 220 yards per game on the ground), ND will control the line, the clock and the ball. ND wins.

Gotcha - the second leading rusher on the team is Armstrong with 271 yds on the season... Taulapapa leads with 290. It's the Virginia 'Air-Attack' that has been giving defenses fits.

Checking one of their forums. Some funny responses to the question, "Do we hold ND to under 30?

The better question is which team holds them under thirty, FB or BB?

Per half?

The hope is ND holds ND to under 30.

Looks like it won't be a sellout. A lot of tickets available.

I am so sick of night games at this point

Don't mind them, especially at home. Better atmosphere, imo. All our losses in the last few years, other than Cincy, are night games on road.

Georgia was a home loss at night too. Game was irritating af.

I just saw a retweet that stated Armstrong is out tonight and Woolfolk is likely the starter…….We’ll see if that news is accurate shortly.

Looks like a chilly but dry night in C-ville tonight. Lets send those long suffering Cav fans home (or to the bars) early for a hot drink or two.

Saw where they haven't beaten a top 10 team since 2005 vs FSU. I remember that game. They stopped Warrick Dunn on the one yd line on the final play of the game.

Probably is. The line probably wouldn’t have moved otherwise.

Friendly reminder that UVA got smoked by UNC and BYU, lost soundly to Wake, and BARELY beat Miami and Louisville. Won those two by a total of 3 points. They could easily be 4-5 right now.

Also, their D is bad. Like BAD bad.

We good.

Looks like the line is temporarily off the board at FanDuel. Lots of betting action on ND it seems with it becoming more public that Armstrong is (allegedly) out.
