Struck me as a accurate discription of there woes last year. Keuch was a force and Montel Harris with his injury was M.I.A. which rendered the BC Offense impotent. I wouldn't mind having Bobby Swigert's 44 receptions on the ND WR list this year. He's done well.

A week later, the Eagles hung fairly tight with Notre Dame but lost, 16-14 — the score looks a little better thanks to a late, meaningless B.C. touchdown.

Any of ND's 4 QBs will have a bigger day than last year.

Brutal Performance?
ND had 417 yds Total O, averaging 5.3 yd/play

Rushing 161 yds, 4.1 yd/play (ND only lost 5 yds rushing all game)

Passing 24-39(62%)-0-1, 256 yds, 6.6 yd/attempt

Rush/Pass Balance 39/39

Turnover 1, NO fumbles, 1 INT (returned for 7 yds, and BC went 3 and out)

ND allowed 1 Sack

Lucky to squeak out that W?

BC was held to 250 yds Total O
BC ran 15 less plays than ND
ND had controlled Time of Possession including a 6 minute advantage in the vital 4th Q
Turk averaged 44 yd/punt
ND was 2-2 in the Red Zone
ND Perfect on FGs 3-3

ND scored on Opening Drive and Never Trailed in the Game.

1 Q 10-0 ND
H 13-7 ND
3 13-7 ND
ND took it to 16-7 in the 4th Q and BC scored with less than 2 minutes in the game (the meaningless TD the article mentioned). BC had 29% of their Total Offense on that TD Drive when ND went into a Prevent D and gave up a 16 yd rush, and then back to back 21 and 17 yd completions, a Pass Interference Penalty).
F 16-14

BC never had the lead nor threatened to take the lead.

ND had the opportunity to blow the game open on the 3 FGs made but a combination of runs and passes didn't produce a First Down after getting inside the BC 25. But that doesn't equate to a brutal offensive performance nor lucky to squeak out a W. The game should have ended 16-7.

Yeah, but it was still tough to watch.

This was a game of poor field position last year. Notre Dame kept getting pinned deep, would move the ball well to about their own 45, then stall out and have to punt. That's why it sucked last year. It was indeed a very frustrating game to watch.

this is an example of stats not showing what you see on the screen....yes we had a lot of yards but we could barely score..and there were soo many deflating plays which sucked any momentum we had which to me seems to make everything that much worse

Bill Connelly previews the 2012 Eagles here.

Defining Success

You just saw a streak of 12 straight bowl seasons end. The bar for 2012 is pretty easy to set, then: get back to the postseason by any means necessary.

Prognosis

I do think Boston College will improve this year. The offense should be better simply because of experience, the secondary should be exciting, and the front seven of the defense at least will not be worse (faint praise, to say the least). B.C. could be pretty mediocre in 2012 and still have technically improved, but when you've slipped, at least slightly, for six consecutive years, the rebound has to start somewhere.

There is indeed some logic in the optimistic Football Outsiders Almanac 2012 projections, even if they seem off-putting at first. If luck turns, and if experience counts for anything, the Eagles should once again at least crack the Top 50. The problem, of course, is that the schedule is not conducive to a huge win total. Even when projected 44th, B.C. is only slated to go 6-6 in 2012. If they only improve to the 50s range, then you might not see any sort of improvement in the win column. And it will be very interesting to see if, despite extreme support from the athletic director, that finally gets Frank Spaziani on the hot seat. If Spaziani has a rebound in him, however, it starts in 2012.

I know this game is a lil ways away, but I'm stationed out here outside of Boston, bought season tickets for BC this year just to get a ticket for this game. Cant wait to see the team come out here in Nov.

Anyone have a good guess as to what time this game might start? I'm flying that Saturday and want to try and schedule around it. Is this game typically a night game?

that is because they are saving the one night game for Notre Dame. I say it will more than likely be a night game.

Struggling mightily with Army right now. Just scored to go up by 4 with 6 minutes to play.

What do you call the Michigan and Purdue games?

Purdue is an example of that, but the Michigan game was against a team who were coming off of a BCS Bowl win and their only other loss is to the best team in the country. I think Michigan is a pretty good team.

I swear to god, if ND somehow goes 9-0 into this game and loses, Boston College is sacrificing stuff or something. I don't want 2002 to happen again...
