if we’re the only school doing this, it’s actually an awesome idea and just confirms the fact that NFTs are a big scam. Is there anything stopping Assaf from making NFTs for Carnell Tate, Dante Moore, and co with the condition they receive the money if they sign?

And the ND admin still thinks the Macarena is hip with the youth
Maybe this was the riff between Burnt Ends and the admin. His idea of dancing was grinding and dry humping, while the administration wanted him to waltz, and if the mood really struck he and the recruit and they were feeling frisky, they could break into a foxtrot.

Pretty cool idea. I joined the discord earlier just to poke around a bit and there are quite a few former players already involved. Nic Weishar was in there chatting with a couple fans.

Remember that high school that wasn’t a real high school that got on ESPN?? … I wonder how long it takes before someone tries something like that with all this NFT/NIL stuff.

man these things are supposed to be for starving artists not hugely endowed colleges!
Watch the ND Endowment bid up these NFTs every year - they get an "investment" and players get paid. Badabing, badaboom baby!

Nobody associated with the Endowment is giving Mick Asaf 25% of whatever he means by "profits", which could work out to a lot more than that, for a receipt to a token.

Isn't that pretty much exactly what these NFTs already are?

Small price to pay for pseudo-plausible deniability. If we really want to win we set up the same structure but Marcus Freeman "runs" it for a 25% vig. Just pay Marty Byrde whatever he needs to get it done right.

I think this kinda hits the nail on the head. Art has always been great for money laundering, and NFTs make that even easier. So if your goal is to facilitate payment to players without triggering any potential pitfalls, this is probably the easiest way.

I agree with LAX...I think NFTs are stupid and I hate them. Saying that if I'm able to make some money by spending a few bucks I'm done.

I wonder if creating a Notre Dame football players DAO for NIL purposes would work, by using something like Juicebox. Someone who knows more about NIL rules and DAO could chime in and explain why this could or could not work....

It's an exorbitantly high price to pay. Nobody in control of that much money is paying a bagman 25%+
I'd rather they not take advantage of the players and of people who don't know any better. It's Predatory Price Gouging/Extortionate Pricing and in better regulated markets it's illegal.
There's better ways to get the players paid without someone using them and not paying a fair sum in return for doing very little. Someone from the team should use whatever they've learned at Mendoza and get a better rate. It's ridiculous TBH.

25% is a bit high but I have no idea what goes into running a site that hosts NFTs and making the NFTs. Idk why some are mad about this. It’s just legal pay to play and instead of a receipt you get a stupid piece of digital art and maybe access to a Q/A at some point.

This is the same as that “Cryptopunk” stuff that Darren Rovell will tweet about from time to time. Those NFTs go for six figures or more. Can’t tell me it’s not mostly folks cleaning their money…

Wouldn’t be the first time I misunderstood something but what I’m saying is some group makes some fake recruiting profile to fool some alumni group out of their money,…

I think that's a small percentage. I think it's more of the 1% showing off their money and power, hardcore collectors and people who missed out on BTC and trying to makeup for it.

I don't know much about NFT's. You may be right. But it seems like a lot of the NFT push comes from 3 camps:

- "artists" and athletes trying to create a market for themselves to make money from worthless products that they are claiming "ownership" of (trademarks and copyrights)
- Game Stop Bros just riding the new, cool craze along for the ride to make money
- the true believer anarchists types who got into bitcoin 13 years ago because they want a new world order

I hadn't thought of cleaning money as a use for it. I could see that too. Whatever the case, I've yet to see the real value of NFT's for me, and 99% of other people out there. I heard from a friend the other day who has a friend that supposedly just started the first NFT golf course. I didn't even ask how that works.

This too as a reason for it.

I was skeptical about NFTs until I did some research. The example that really rang true is issuing them for event tickets to prevent counterfeits. It’s history will be on the blockchain, verify the original issuer correct? You’re paying for a real ticket.

The fact that we are talking about NFT for NIL for ND to allow MFMF to get a CFP NC is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . What a world.

That example only works for concert tickets. When you buy an NFT for "art' you're buying a link. You are not buying the art. The art/token stays on the server and you hope and pray the sever doesn't crash or that it stays at that address, otherwise you get a 404 File Not Found like lots of people have already or a picture of a rug (as in haha rug pulled out from underneath you).

That is not true at all. That’s true for places scamming people. But go to an NFT exchange like OpenSea or auction houses and what you wrote is not the case.

What's not true? Are you telling me that OpenSea stores the art on the blockchain? That would only cost about a trillion dollars - give or take a few bucks :)

Anyhow, Ashton Pollard wrote an article today for on3 going more in depth on what they plan to do. In short, the NFTs will get you access to exclusive events and team access, so that's pretty cool. The issue that people had with 25% going to Assaf seems to have been squashed as well, with that percentage going to players fulfilling certain commitments. It seems all good in general.

Nah I was a bit off on your point. I like your scenario though - fake recruit sells NFTs and promotes he will go to whoever collects the most NFTs in the set.
