More notes from today:

- ND gained a new Walk-on RB from it's tryout: Former Illinois LB Tyler Plantz, who played for Providence Catholic.

- Another addition was WR Ryan Liebscher

Anybody got an statics or stats on these fellas?

Tremendously optimistic responses from Coach Denbrock about Tyler Eifert. Understandably, he doesn't want to use "All-American" type commentary, especially with the improvement he feels Tyler has to make blocking, but his eyes are popping about Eifert's receiving skills. On the side, he seemed pleased with Ragone, too. Tight End U has its famous position well in hand.

Alex Welch and Ben Koyack (coming in summer) will also keep the university in good hands.

Wasn't it Eifert that was getting blown up by Filer in those 3-3 drills?

Definitely was.

I love Tyler, but his blocking needs to improve.

At this stage, he is just a split out TE. Ragone and Welch appear to be the big bruisers on the inside.

Tyler's lack of blocking is the biggest thing that is keeping him away from catching Rudolph's caliber.

I like Welch on one side and Eifert on the other. I like Alex Welch a lot and I think he gets over looked. The coaches were pretty impressed with Alex Welch in practice all year last year.

What you are missing is that Eifert, after getting beaten by Carlo Calabrese in that same drill, kicked the living crap out of him the very next play. And then the next play after that, drove Carlo way the eff back and pancaked him into oblivion, starting one of the skirmishes that day. And we all know that Carlo's biggest strength is, well, his brute strength. Eifert is turning into much more than a split-out TE, and he'll be a HUGE part of the offense this year, both in the passing game and running game...

Love it. One of my brothers [the one who played for East Carolina] said he'd have to knock somebody out about once a week because the competitiveness was sky high. Glad to see we're inching up a little closer to that level [admittedly, ECU was a bit over-much for my taste].

I wouldn't say Eifert is a bad blocker at all. Until he's destroying everyone on every block, every guy needs work. But he's certainly every bit and probably a better blocker than Rudolph was.

For all intents and purposes, Rudy WAS that classic split out tight end, whereas Eifert might offer more in blocking and just as much in the passing game (maybe more there too). I think that's what is so exciting about him.

I'm going to have to disagree. From the reports I've read, Tyler needs to get much better at blocking (not that he's terrible, just a weakness). And Kyle was better starting on the line than Tyler. Tyler splits out more than Rudy did, Tyler is much thinner and doesn't have the O-line type of size yet, but you also need to take into consideration the reason he feels more comfortable splitting out is because he was a WR in high school.. And a darn good one at that.

When Eifert caught that TD pass against Army...my first thought was...that looked just like Shark. Even the way he celebrated looked like him. They are very similar looking in their uniforms for sure.
