Any time anyone beats Michigan, its a glorious day. Fuck Michigan
I view hockey is basically outside the normal lens of college sports. I suspect loyal Notre Dame hockey fans love to see Michigan lose. I suspect casual college fans do. I suspect college hockey fans do too. All for different reasons. The second group has a flawed analysis though.
Notre Dame fans don't like Michigan. Very well reasoned and can't really be argued against. Proximity and history exist.
College hockey fans might hate Michigan because historically they've won a lot. Sound familiar?
But casual sports fans dont have much reason to really celebrate Michigan losing to Denver.
Denver and North Dakota are both in the Summit League. A low major conference where both are middling-mediocre at sports. But Denver and North Dakota are blue blood hockey schools and run the best or second best conference.
Denver has won 10 national championships. North Dakota has won 8 titles. Michigan has won 9, but only 2 in the last sixty years. None this millennium.
But a casual fan turns on Michigan vs. Denver, sees Michigan as the higher seed losing and thinks "good for Denver, nice to see the little guys win." Denver is not and never has been some underdog program in hockey.
It shows people can reach the right answer but for the wrong reasons.
The only thing the college hockey world could unanimously enjoy yesterday was North Dakota losing. Fuck those guys.
