This is not your typical job opening. It's one of the top 5 jobs in the NFL and top 15 in all of sports (excluding soccer).

I expect someone like Hue Jackson to be the worst case scenario. Best case Sean Payton. It's probably going to be someone who has won a Super Bowl as a HC, DC or OC. I will be shocked if they go with a college coach. This is a job people come out of retirement for (Gruden or Cowher?).

You have a 2-time SB winning QB with at least 3 good years left, a superstar WR, a couple solid young OL, the #10 pick in the draft and 40 million in cap space. Very attractive job...

I really think this happens. He would be the perfect fit and it seems he - and New Orleans - need a change.

Plus he was a very successful OC for the Giants so he is familiar with the organization.

I think Cowher would do great in New York. I can't believe it has already been almost 10 years since he has last coached

Sean Payton would wreck in New York. Imagine if they also drafted Will Fuller in the second round....

Shaq Lawson in the 1st and Fuller in the 2nd would be dirty. Use the $40 million in cap space to sign a secondary and linebackers and go to war.

I read where it looks like Sean Payton will return to NO.

Pagano is definitely out in Indy. The question is will Grigson be going as well?

Personally don't believe Gruden will ever go back to coaching.

Ian Rappaport is reporting that the Saints will ask for a second round draft pick from the Giants in exchange of letting Payton go to them.

I don't think Fuller is going to tear up the NFL. I might be wrong, but I think he is going to be a very good receiver, but just not an elite NFL receiver. Michael Floyd was a way more complete receiver, and he's never had an elite NFL season. I hope I'm wrong about it, but I just get this feeling that Fuller is going to be a solid NFL starter, but not much more than that.

Sean Payton apparently wants the Niners job. Wherever he ends up Saints will want a draft pick in return.

Is there any chance at all Harbaugh comes back to NFL to coach the Giants? Many people think he prefers the NFL...

I would love it because he is a hell of a coach and Michigan boards would be in full meltdown...

This is the top job in the NFL. That's the consensus I hear. Hue Jackson is a pretty hot name and has your requirement of former head coach. Don't forget, Coughlin was a retread as well. Sean Payton will probably be a target (assuming he gets fired). I'd be shocked if Gruden or Cowher are really the guys. They've been out of football for too long that I'm not sure either would want the job, though Cowher has been linked to it forever.

Also, don't overrate what the G-Men have. I really wanted to see them in the playoffs because they can turn it on and compete with anybody, but Eli has 2 years left, the O line isn't all that great and the defense is pretty bad. Cap space is something I always see thrown around as a great way to entice a coach, but it hardly ever means anything. The best thing the Giants have on that aspect is that they won't be in cap hell anytime soon. That makes a bigger difference than cap space.

All in all, the Giants will still have their pick of the litter. Best of luck, but I'm still gonna root for you to lose to da Bears next year.

No chance in Hell that the Maras would want him to coach the team. He gets results, but I think he's a bit too much of a personality to head the team.

Jim Tomsula gets $3.5M this year and $10.5M as a parting gift.....not bad all things considered.

Still no decision for Colts. A team rep has informed reporters no decision will be made by end of night.

Technically the job is open. Pagano's contract ended on Sunday and team would not need to "fire" him. It's either offer/extend a new contract or hire someone else.

Very possible HC change in Detroit. Especially with a new GM likely coming in too. Less heat right now, but everyone is very unhappy with the 1-7 start and the year long poor game management of Caldwell.

You're ignoring the fact they finished 6-2 and the Ford family has voiced their support for Caldwell. I'm not saying I want him to stay, just what's been said by the family.

This was a bad hire in the first place.
