Apparently, KSU On3 writer that said that it’s not a done deal yet but Klein was offered the job. The screenshot was shared at 247

Every hire is a risk. Andy Ludwig would be a risk. If MF believes in Klein and the offensive staff believe in Klein, good enough for me to sit back and let the results speak for themselves.

I don’t watch K state football. This to me doesn’t sound like a home run hire. You don’t hear much about him at all. Freeman has mead some good hires and being a fan I have no choice but to like who he hires. This just doesn’t say to me stand by college football the Irish offense train is on the tracks. But again I don’t know much about K state.

I guess I’ll have to go watch some clips.

At the end of the day this is what we should all want. Whether it is the right move in the end, we should want Freeman shooting his shot and nobody else’s. That’s what he’s here for.
TBH, I think the Tommy hire was a one off under some unusual circumstances.

B&G tweeted that one coach has removed his name. Any idea who that is?

Lucky - believe me that is great Freeman is making the hire and not the AD but Collin is very, very young and only major experience is at KSU. No NFL experience and the optics that he shares the same agent makes me feel as though Freeman was talked up to going for him. Rees had singular experience under BK and Collin's largely been at KSU and an OC for JUST ONE YEAR. Ugh.

I trust Freeman and staff completely. They know what they are looking for far better than any of us. I think it is massive folly to try to criticize their choice and try to analyze what is best for their program. They want to win. They will do what they feel is best.

Klein would be a solid higher I think he is right there similar to Tommy I believe he was the QB in 2012 at Kansas State when they went 11-1 and woulda played us instead of Bama for the title but they lost their last game.

I need to watch more film. But I think this would be a great mesh of Notre Dame physicality, cleverness and explosiveness. I bet the passing game opens up more with Hartman compared to Will Howard. Great Mesh.

Butte were still allowed do debate/ discuss our opinion of that shot based on little or no insight in a message board, right? 😂

Klein doesn't seem like a big name, but I think everyone was impressed with what K state was able to do with a backup QB last year.

The one thing I worry about with Klein is that he seems like he might prefer a heavy QB run game. He was able to do without it with Will Howard, but he also brought in and started Adrian Martinez and recruited Avery Johnson. That would probably be good for Buchner, but it also might be bad for Carr.

The parallels are kind of uncanny, from the "entire coaching career at one school which is also their alma mater" to their crucial roles as players in the 2012 season.

So much that I wonder how the people who yelled about BK turning the reins over to inexperienced Rees will view Freeman hiring Klein, because minus the longstanding personal relationship BK and Rees had, it's really pretty similar.

Throwing to our tight ends on seams 🥹

More of that please! We were handcuffed a bit last year, but man when we ran it, they were generally wide open. I specifically remember the one in the OSU game.
That play - Buchner faked a handoff, stepped to the side, and hit a tight end seam for 20-something yards - was one of my favorite play calls all season and exactly what I thought of when I saw this.

At the time I felt that the Rees hire was incredibly lazy. I can’t recall a single article from someone plugged in (Loy, Driskell, Sampson, etc.) who said that Kelly had a very thorough nation-wide search after he kicked Chip Long out the door. You can’t help but wonder if Kelly simply waddled his ass 10 feet down the hall to knock on Rees’ door and promote him.

It appears that Kelly’s “search” for his OC after 2019 is nothing close to Freeman’s search to replace Tommy.

Did I miss it or has Tommy not been officially welcomed as the Bama OC? His tweeter still looks ND and I haven’t had the sick feeling seeing him in elephant gear yet.

Also, bonus points to Freeman for having a gap, recruiting, finding a good candidate, and being able to hire (or so it appears) in the time it has taken the Colts to interview Jeff Saturday twice.

Klein would be fine, but he's not an upgrade over Tommy, just different.

You only get so many opportunities to improve through hiring and I think they could do better than Klein.

That said, Freeman probably wants to lean more on the run game and Klein's offense prob fits better with that. Wish they'd go with a more experienced coordinator that is more pass-oriented, though.

I don't think it is a bad thing to have anyone from the Bill Snyder coaching tree. Klein may not have coached under Snyder, but he was a QB for him. If he took just a small percentage of what he observed from Snyder he will likely be successful.

Kinda obvious to me anyway that if he didn't accept on the visit he isn't going to. KSU lifer who gets a nice raise and increases his stock for the future. Why else go back with an offer not accepted?

Could be using us for a raise, if so, on to the next!

Or, Freeman liked what Rees brought to the table as a young playcaller/coordinator with an offense that trended towards the power-run with plenty of motion, and sees the same in Klein's KSU offense.

Maybe he feels this will be a smooth transition, where Klein will flourish with better overall talent at each position (excepting the top RB) while avoiding a total overhaul/install, and where ND's athletes will flourish by being in a very similar system that has a tendency to be even more aggressive when necessary.

Yeah lots of reasons to not accept on the spot. Talk it over with family. Be in a position to break it to your alma mater/players before the story gets loose. Reserve a little leverage to tack on a few sweeteners to the deal.
