That's where I'm at. Have MF hire experienced dudes you can trust to handle their side of the ball. Let MF handle recruiting and the overall team aspect. Worked for Dabo at Clemson. A good leader knows when to delegate effectively. Denbrock could be our Golden on the offensive side.
Who needs good coaching when you can just pummel people with 5*s? My 2 year old could run an offense if you gave her Garret Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Emeka Egbuka, and MHJr to work with.

I mean, OSU's offense wasn't that amazing this year despite that sort of talent. Maybe it was the QB. And of course, Hartline wasn't calling plays.

But Ryan Day couldn't consistently beat Michigan with significantly more talent. Coaching is definitely still needed.

I'll be interested to see who the hire actually is.

However, if ISD, II, and The Athletic are dropping hints, or more overtly saying Denbrock is the top choice, I would believe it.

If you really pay attention, every time there is an article or a podcast about a coach who spent time with Freeman or at Cincinnati, they always cite, "someone who used to coach with so-and-so at Cincinnati had great things to say about said person." It's pretty clear that Denbrock is their source for many, many things.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are throwing his name out there because Denbrock himself is telling Pete Sampson, Tim Prister, and Mike Frank. Someone check Rivals, I bet Ed Hansen is going to be praising Denbrock too.

A Denbrock hire would be damn good hire on it's own but you've got to think that such a hire would stabilize the offensive coaching staff. Whereas a young hire like Kirby Moore would be a great hire in a vacuum, such a hire I would imagine would blow up the Offensive coaching staff. Such a hire would push Gino Guidugli out and I can't see Deland McCullough staying after getting passed up again for another young coach and they still would still need to hire a TE coach as well.

I understand the reasons to be excited with Hartline but he’d be down the list for me.
About as much play calling experience as Parker had. Less in fact. He's just a home run hitter on the recruiting trail, therefore many of the people who hammered Parker every chance they could are going to absolutely love this hire.

Not a fan of this being the hire but I'd assume that Freeman knows something the rest of us don't when it comes to how Hartline can coordinate an offense.

In all seriousness, would you want him? Do you think ND should go younger? You can search my posts in the past…I’m skeptical on Denbrock. He had the best QB in the CFB, the best WR in CFB, another badass WR, and some very solid backs…I’m not so sure how much it was him / his scheme as opposed to the talent. I could be very wrong though. Who knows?

I think most people scoffed at the Jayden Daniels pickup, including me when it first happened. I didn't think it'd produce anything close to this. So we can certainly give Jayden credit for being gifted but who turned him into the best QB in the country? It certainly wasn't ASU.

You watched all of the games this year. The numbers are incredible but were his receivers making unbelievable plays on poorly thrown balls and picking up monster YAC that most other WRs wouldn't be capable of? You have to help us because following one team takes up enough of my time.

It sure seems like Jayden took a massive leap when plugged into an offense with a coordinator who could maximize his skillset. Completion percentage took a huge jump, as did his overall production.

With our current coaching staff, I believe he'd be the best possible fit. He knows the university, Freeman, most of the staff and he's very experienced with multiple types of QBs. ND has some unique QBs with different skillsets that an experienced coordinator could maximize (Minchey is different than Carr who is different than Leonard who is different than Deuce). I just can't imagine having an offense that was 80-90% of LSU's this year to complement our defense.

If LSU had NDs Def and vice-versa that team would easily be the #1 seed this year.

Pete Sampson published his 7 names to know article this morning

Home Run - Denbrock
The Al Goldens - Candle , Moorhead
Next Big Things - Moore , Weis Jr
In House - Gino
And then lists Kevin John's as a wildcard

Worth noting last year in his "8 candidates to replace Rees" article he listed Parker but not Ludwig or Klein

Someone already on staff would be the most on brand thing ever. I’m hoping for the best, but still expecting the worst.

We played this game less than a year ago. Pepperidge Farm remembers the great lengths the BOT will go to in their never ending effort to neuter this program.

Let’s hope things are different now.

Denbrock is a Home Run and an Al Golden as far as I am concerned.

I think that we should probably look at the broader picture here. We have an opportunity to not only hire a coach that has offensive coordinator experience from the NFL but we can also improve the NBC broadcast...

So you’re suggesting the hire is Jason Garrett then NBC adds Denbrock to the booth?

He'd be a huge upgrade over Parker....But that would really suck.

Agreed that none of the prelim lists last year were very accurate. At the same time, Tommy leaving was late in the game and a surprise - I don't think they were prepared. Pete's article read to me like one he had kept in his back pocket from before Freeman doubled down on keeping Gerad Parker. IE, it may be more accurate this time.

Except for the only other coordinator on the team, Al Golden, who is one of the highest paid assistant coaches in the NCAA.

And the inhouse hire preceding Parker was hired by none other than Nick Saban of the University of "We Do Whatever It Takes." He's now 12-1 and in the playoff after beating UGA.

Last year was poorly handled, but ND's issue is not a BOT trying to neuter the program. It's college football's insane race to the bottom. This is not 2000. The BOT is generally committed. But it is very difficult for ND to deal with the fundamental changes that are coming so fast while it is also trying to slow them down. ND is not an SEC school fully committed to the minor league NFL model.

Candle and Moorhead are intriguing because of their head coaching experience in addition to both having been play callers when not head coaches.

If this was so important as a drawback to Parker, I fail to understand why it would be overlooked for a candidate like Hartline. Experienced play calling is what CMF needs for the next couple of years as he continues to get his feet wet as a first time head coach.

Most likely we will end up with Gio, they'll make it seem like they are swinging big again then settle on Gio. Not that Gio is bad he might be good but it will be the same story like last year.

I think there is very little chance they go with Gino even if he is the best canidate. They'll want to undo the negative narrative that emerged with the Parker hire.

To me, it sounds like the reporters are pretending they don't know that discussions with Denbrock have been in the works--obviously that doesn't mean it's a done deal, but they wouldn't be talking if they money wasn't there. If so, it will be interesting to see if Denbrock shows loyalty to Kelly or takes the opportunity to exit his orbit.

Do we know what kind of offense Freeman wants to run? Run first, rpo, air raid?
He seems to favor something more conservative. I can't ever see him embracing something like the air raid. Look at Georgia and Michigan - they are kind of "vanilla" as far as modern college offensive systems, but they have talented guys and are fundamentally sound so it works.

I truly believe that this is a 2nd chance for Freeman and he know it. He's also not bound by the calenday in a way that he was last year. Remember - Rees left in Feb with spring ball starting in March. Time is on Freeman's side this time and he saw, like the rest of us, what happens when you go bargain bin diving...

100%. I'm not sure this is the best hire. It's certainly not the sexiest. But I can say with certainty that if we had Denbrock this past season, ND is preparing for a NY6 bowl game at a MINIMUM.
