“Big-time college athletics look no different than professional leagues, and it's time for us to stop denying the right of college athletes to make money off their talents,” Murphy said in announcing the bill. “If predominantly white coaches and NCAA executives can have unfettered endorsement deals, why shouldn’t predominantly Black athletes be afforded the same opportunity?”

Has Swarbrick addressed this definitively as to what ND will do in response to NIL? IIRC, he noted ND would not participate in paying players as employees and remain in a college league that likely didn’t include most of the P5 but I hadn’t heard his opinion on this.

As long as they are not employees we're good. But the employee part was when Swarbrick said it is a bridge to far.

I don’t think getting paid by the school is even necessary. Just end the endorsements and branding restrictions. Then the schools can become hotbeds of talents and branding and pretty much takes care of itself from there.

Yup. They just need to open up the free market and let booster groups pay kids above board. It’s not complicated.

Along those lines, who should be the first player that IrishEnvy sponsors?

If they do that, they won't have any money left to buy out the coaches contracts when they get canned! lol

I could see Super PAC type entities come out of this getting all the good recruits to schools they work for. Lol. “Brought to you by Alabama Bagmen for Saban PAC”

How great would it be to see coaches and administrator salaries go down as boosters shift dollars to paying kids.

Just curious but how would this impact high school age footballers. Would kids with a “future” be pushed so hard in order to land a booster payout prior to attending a college. Would/could the branding start in HS?

I’ve always seen it as a slippery slope so I think it definitely finds its way to the high school ranks. We all know shenanigans already occur at that level so it’s not big a stretch to see it happening w/ NIL at some point in the future..

I would think in the smaller “college towns”, you’d see a lot of the local dealerships loaning kids vehicles in exchange for the right to use their image on a billboard or in a tv/radio ad. At least ND players could string together the script to pull of an ad read. Could get ugly at some of the factories...may need to stick to billboards & meet & greets....LOL
