Shrews, MF, Ivey all lobbying for Nike.

I'm as cynical as anyone but I have a hard time believing they'll throw a ten-year apparel contract to Under Armor just because the outgoing athletic director's son is some sort of mid-level executive there. Cal might lose his job at UA, because they won't have many colleges left to market. But he's not gonna starve if we sign with Nike instead. Maybe he'll even get a job there. They'll hire anyone and pe probably has more relevant experience than Pops Moore.

Don’t worry Jack has another kid employed by NBC

FWIW, Sampson did his annual State of the Program fan survey recently. One of the questions was "When Notre Dame football takes the field to kick off the 2024 season, the logo on its football jersey should be?" Like 70% of respondents (n = 1600) said Nike or Jordan brand.

So that would seem to be a popular way to go.
Under Armour8.4%
Adidas10.2%
Nike43.2%
Jordan Brand26.6%
New Balance2.2%
Other9.3%

Looking at his profile, I think he's more a team lead or mid management. IMO he's not a factor in the negotiations.

Last go around UA was a hot trending brand and Swarbricks son was a low level employee. It was pretty much a non-issue.

This time, UA is tanking badly and his son is much higher up. Even if there is a legitimate reason to stick with UA, it will smell badly of nepotism. As Jack is on the way out, I don't think he should be driving the bus on this deal.

Tim saying that UAs offer is substantially higher than Nike. "Nike would like to have Notre Dame, but it doesn’t need Notre Dame."

Well, this is largely true. Nike's (including the Jordan brand) leading schools will be Oregon and North Carolina. With the exception of some notable basketball schools (Kansas, Indiana) and Notre Dame, Nike/Jordan has pretty much every other "big name brand" under them -- Texas, Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, and so on.

That said, I don't think they'd scoff at having Notre Dame's business...is there enough devotion to Notre Dame though to make ND bite at the deal?

Also, FWIW, Under Armour's Notre Dame's football uniforms and some of the fan apparel -- especially the team issued/Marcus Freeman apparel -- is top notch imo.

I don't agree with many of these but if there's an anti-gold pants club, I'm the President, so thumbs up.

Woah woah woah....you don't like gold pants all together or just the current - "mustard" gold pants?

I know you will all hate me for this, but I think the current mustard gold pants look pretty good. They're different and distinguished from all of the others (Navy, Georgia Tech, Colorado, etc.)

No, the mustard pants are great. There is a lot of nostalgia among ND fans for these pants, which I hate:

I hate the mustard looking gold pants or what used to be called athletic gold. I do want them to move back to the gold pants but not exactly like the 90’s. I just want them to match the current helmets, which I love and in which neither the current iteration or the 90’s look does.

Do you want to look like MC Hammer?

This was part of Swarbrick's comments last time. Obviously a big component is money. But there are other considerations as well, such as the actual performance of the equipment.

He said an equipment deal is one part of trying to find a competitive advantage for the university's teams.

"We compete on such small margins. Games are decided by one or two plays. There's such general parity in college athletics these days," Swarbrick said.

"You're looking for everything that helps you change that margin," he said. "Equipment is an increasingly important part of it."

There's a reason other big programs go with Nike instead of UA despite the lower $ amount - it's because UA went out of style 5+ years ago. No one wears it. Can't remember i saw someone under 30 in under armour clothes.

Nike will help with recruiting
this is no longer the case. Back in the when players couldn't be paid they would want the free gear a school provided. Now with NIL they can just buy whatever stuff they want. If you are offering a kid unlimited tracksuits or a bag of cash they are gonna take the cash.

Please expound. I'm curious, not that I really give a damn about Driskell overall.
He basically on thinks Nike has legal issues when in reality they all do. He kept going on about how bad slave labor at Nike is and how he abhors them until his own board blew him up about how short sighted he is. If you are going to talk about how awful Nike is about their treatment of their out of country workforce but use an IPhone you really need to read more.

I have mostly UA ND gear right now. I think I shuffled out all of the old Adidas stuff that was from the previous era.

I actually really like the hoodies I have, but if they go to Nike I'm almost certainly going to get some new stuff.
