I'm as cynical as anyone but I have a hard time believing they'll throw a ten-year apparel contract to Under Armor just because the outgoing athletic director's son is some sort of mid-level executive there. Cal might lose his job at UA, because they won't have many colleges left to market. But he's not gonna starve if we sign with Nike instead. Maybe he'll even get a job there. They'll hire anyone and pe probably has more relevant experience than Pops Moore.
Coaches know what will be the most effective in recruiting.Sounds like UA is offering the most money.
Shrews, MF, Ivey all lobbying for Nike.
Who wins out?
FWIW, Sampson did his annual State of the Program fan survey recently. One of the questions was "When Notre Dame football takes the field to kick off the 2024 season, the logo on its football jersey should be?" Like 70% of respondents (n = 1600) said Nike or Jordan brand.
So that would seem to be a popular way to go.
| Under Armour | 8.4% |
| Adidas | 10.2% |
| Nike | 43.2% |
| Jordan Brand | 26.6% |
| New Balance | 2.2% |
| Other | 9.3% |
Looking at his profile, I think he's more a team lead or mid management. IMO he's not a factor in the negotiations.I'm as cynical as anyone but I have a hard time believing they'll throw a ten-year apparel contract to Under Armor just because the outgoing athletic director's son is some sort of mid-level executive there. Tim saying that UAs offer is substantially higher than Nike. "Nike would like to have Notre Dame, but it doesn’t need Notre Dame."

I don't agree with many of these but if there's an anti-gold pants club, I'm the President, so thumbs up.
Woah woah woah....you don't like gold pants all together or just the current - "mustard" gold pants?
I know you will all hate me for this, but I think the current mustard gold pants look pretty good. They're different and distinguished from all of the others (Navy, Georgia Tech, Colorado, etc.)
His defense for why he hates Nike is so unbelievably comical.Bryan Driskell hates Nike. Please pick Nike.
The answer may surprise you! This deal will be a tell-tale sign if ND is really all in w/ Coach MF or just paying lip service to it's fans. If you're all in you make the switch to Nike, end of story.
I hate the mustard looking gold pants or what used to be called athletic gold. I do want them to move back to the gold pants but not exactly like the 90’s. I just want them to match the current helmets, which I love and in which neither the current iteration or the 90’s look does. No, the mustard pants are great. There is a lot of nostalgia among ND fans for these pants, which I hate:

Sure about that? I’d argue UA is more popular with ND fans. Nike probably more popular with kids and non ND fans.Even if UA is paying more they’ll make more selling Nike Gear people love Nike no one loves UA
Um - maybe ND fans where UA, because they have to? They like ND, not UA - they'll wear what they have toSure about that? I’d argue UA is more popular with ND fans. Nike probably more popular with kids and non ND fans.

Nike will help with recruiting
He said an equipment deal is one part of trying to find a competitive advantage for the university's teams.
"We compete on such small margins. Games are decided by one or two plays. There's such general parity in college athletics these days," Swarbrick said.
"You're looking for everything that helps you change that margin," he said. "Equipment is an increasingly important part of it."
Please expound. I'm curious, not that I really give a damn about Driskell overall. His defense for why he hates Nike is so unbelievably comical.
this is no longer the case. Back in the when players couldn't be paid they would want the free gear a school provided. Now with NIL they can just buy whatever stuff they want. If you are offering a kid unlimited tracksuits or a bag of cash they are gonna take the cash.Nike will help with recruiting
He basically on thinks Nike has legal issues when in reality they all do. He kept going on about how bad slave labor at Nike is and how he abhors them until his own board blew him up about how short sighted he is. If you are going to talk about how awful Nike is about their treatment of their out of country workforce but use an IPhone you really need to read more. Please expound. I'm curious, not that I really give a damn about Driskell overall.
When are they making a decision?
I need to know what kind of hoodies I'm picking up at the thrift store five years from now. The suspense is killing me.
I agree. That’s what my gut is telling me.I still think it'll be Adidas. No clue why...
So you haven't bought anything with UA on it?FWIW, if ND went with Nike... I would definitely buy some new gear.
