Rooting for Kevin. His Friday Night Lights updates were incredible at II. I think people expected him to be like Loy when Loy left for the national beat which was unfair expectations and impossible shoes for him to fill.

Personally I just mute them as leaving the follow in my brain helps them with the algorithm, though who can tell since Elon took over Twitter

Going from ND to Pitt, in general, must be what a MLB player feels when they're in a slump, and get told "pack your bags, you're heading down to AAA to get right..."

Realizing you're going from MFMF to having to talk to Narduzzi? That's like getting triple demoted to A ball....

On the plus side, he gets to hear Narduzzi cry about Notre Dame from time to time.

Seems these Pods and the Insiders are cashing in the ND popularity. Many more commercials to FFWD through.

He probably would have survived just fine had he done what most ND recruiting reporters (including Loy) do constantly. Oversell recruits, take direction from Bowden, pull 2 of the following phrases from a hat and use in every article:

- ND has a chance but has to close
- He wants to get to campus soon
- We’ll see what happens
- refer to a 3 star as “a top” target
- Academics is important to family
- et al

I will say that Sinclair is/was a writer in great need of a copy editor. His stuff always contained missing words, jumbled quotes, sentences that didn’t make any sense. He was much better when he didn’t need to write stuff down.

When I was a reporter, I’d sometimes write something down quickly in an interview and have no idea what I wrote an hour later if I didn’t write it down properly a second time.

He was really good actually, he was never there to be the scoop guy and after Loy moved on there was no one to take the role. He was expected to be that guy and he got abused for it.
He was actually not good. I never expected him to be a scoop guy. He lived in Canada and was completely disconnected from the University. As someone most recently mentioned, his actual writing was substandard and all he did was essentially transcribe text messages from recruits or do his own bad evals or just copy and paste whatever the ND recruiting offices sent him.

As for the being "unqualified", prior to 247 hiring him he never had any kind of eval background at all. He was basically a hobbyist who kept a large recruiting board in his house and followed along with it. Most of the writing work he did or the aggregation of clips he would do could be done by an intern.

II did Sinclair a disservice by somewhat making him seem the heir apparent to Loy, which created unrealistic expectations for him.
wow, someone has an axe to grind...7 posts and firing strays ....can't imagine making another account just to post shit like that..

HE'S BAAACCCKKK!
No idea who or what you are referring to. I didn't make this account to fire a "stray" at Sinclair. It wasn't a stray as I was responding to a direct question about him that was posted.

I disagree. I felt he was an asset, and I enjoyed his coverage. He's also a good human being.
Sinclair is a good enough person. My issue with him has nothing to do with him as a human being. Nice guy. Terrible writer.

Good summation as well...but you forgot the infamous "The Gug feels good!"

I suppose I can't be too harsh against Sinclair seeing as his mentor was Tom Loy (now THAT'S a stray)...but that's also not just my opinion...the writer that Merck referenced that is persona non grata around the football program.... it's Loy.

The reason for this stuff:
His stuff always contained missing words, jumbled quotes, sentences that didn’t make any sense.
I alluded to earlier..and Loy did it A LOT as well....was they would have text exchanges with recruits and just copy and paste them into a story without editing them/cleaning them up. Loy openly admitted it on the board years ago when people complained about it.

I like Irish Illustrated and a lot of their current/former staff. O'Malley might be one of the most genuine people I've met in my entire life. John Brice is an awesome guy. Pete Sampson as well. Anna Hickey was phenomenal when she was on staff there. Prister has seen better days but is an institution at this point.

You're the one who seems mad, tbh.

This thread is nearly 210 pages and my first post in it was kind of ribbing II about something everyone agrees with, whether you like them or not, that their recruiting coverage has gone downhill.

Maybe Mentock can turn that around? I don't know

I have no "axe" to grind with II. If there was any axe, it would be with the Irish Breakdown crew.
