Listened to Bryan Driskell's podcast today. [duck/cover]
I really don't want to go back through all of the pages of this thread, but does he have some sort of issue with the Styles family? The entire first half of the podcast was part reaction to the Adon Shuler commitment, and a bigger part devoted to 2023 safety/DB recruiting. He must have listed the top ND targets at safety no fewer than a dozen times, with not a single mention of Sonny Styles. At points it sounded like he had a ranking list straight from rivals or 247 and he was just reading names off, but for some reason never would say Sonny Styles.

I listen to his stuff mostly because he puts out more podcasts and videos than anyone else, but I can certainly hear why people don't like him.

That's it!! I wondered where they went

You read these rumors on the dark web about self-flagellants

They are the listening base for Irish Breakdown, as they are, indeed, broken down, listening to homebound fat boy.

Sonny will be a Rover so that omission actually does make sense this time

This smells like the Botelho thing to me...

A glaring omission that forces someone to ask about it via mailbag or social, just so he can say "Styles is an OSU guy until sources tell me otherwise" or something like that.

If it were simply based on Styles not being a safety for his purposes, he probably still mentions Sonny in that context.

The OL scares me personally, but the defense will be special. Maybe a 2019 type of year.

After the 2018 Cotton Bowl loss to Clemson, many thought the O-line would be suspect the coming season and they did quite well. The O-line is the one thing I'm not worried about.

Haha might be giving Driskell’s cleverness too much credit. Idk, if you asked me about DBs I wouldn’t say a thing about Sonny either, think I did basically that a few weeks back. LB/S hybrids are the new problem for ranking services. If it existed, Styles would be #1 Hybrid instead of #1 S.

Agree with all of this. Driskell, for all he's done wrong, this is not among that.

Malik's dad and I tailgated with Redfield's Mom's side of the family @ ASU. That's a wild bunch and I'll leave it at that.

Flash forward to the Navy tailgate in SD and we end up in the tent next to Redfield. He was JACKED. Had the same Redfro and looked 6-3/230. Too bad the Rover hadn't been invented yet.

i watched the highlights of a few of his games in Italy and he was Mossing dudes every game at WR. Definitely think he can still make plays in those spring leagues/ XFL or whatever

I'm really not looking for a political argument, so I hope no one takes it that way by me sharing this.

However, does anyone know a single individual who is insulted by our nickname and/or mascot? No one seemed very offended in 2012 when we took our last trip to Ireland and it sure sounded like another good crowd was anticipated in 2020 before COVID cancelled everything. I have Irish heritage and, if anything, am proud of the nickname, but that's just one man's opinion.

Very much makes me wonder “who” was actually polled……..sounds like people that have no clue whatsoever on the origins of ND and the mascot/team name (or they just don’t like Notre Dame in general). This is throwaway crap and just another example of negative clickbait in my opinion.

people who buy shirts off a website are who were polled I believe.

The mascot study was conducted by Quality Logo Products, an Illinois company that prints logos on T-shirts, water bottles and other items.

Yep, I saw about the t-shirt buyers but there is in information on the demographics of the folks polled……I would hazard a guess that QLP has no idea on that either. How this kind of “poll” makes it to national news is pretty indicative of the current media environment. It was on USA Today also (Gannett also owns Indystar and the SB Tribune IIRC).

With the exception of how I feel they sided with the refs on the controversial reviews, I thought the crew last night was strong. Joe T is a vet but Greg McElroy I thought was very good.

I would agree with the same exception……I would also add that they went on a little too much about Milton. His return was awesome but they may have gone a tad overboard.

Not a fan of Joe T. at the end. He was going Bob Costas movie trailer narrative during the OT.

McElroy was pretty good but Tortellini turned me off from the get go. He was trying too hard to make this the 93 game.

College Football Gus Johnson is not my favorite, but he's better than Soccer Gus Johnson.

Hoping ND doesn't have any road games where he's in the booth. The screaming....

I like Greg McElroy as an analyst. I've listened to his ESPNU show on SiriusXM for a couple years on my drive to work. He obviously goes Alabama homer sometimes, no where near as bad as Herbstreit, but that is understandable.

Yeah I like that show in the morning, they do a nice job. I also love Mark Packer in the evenings on the drive home. I'm pretty much dialed in to ESPNU radio from July - January.

On the second bold, I'm not aware of Herbie being a Bama homer? I think Herbie or any other analyst are just blown away by the ability Saban has to lose as much talent, year after year, to the NFL yet they just reload and never skip a beat. Bama is probably going to go down as the best dynasty in the history of College Football, maybe even sports. I just look at it as him doing his job and making the same predictions anyone else does; Bama has been the best for over a decade, and will likely continue to do so as long as Saban is running that program.

If I were to guess, Johnson will be in the booth for the Wisconsin game in Chicago.

I tend to agree on both your points. Especially considering Mark Packer…he’s the best. For my money, Mark Packer & Andy Staples are my two favorite folks to listen to when it comes to unvarnished, unbiased CFB talk.

McElroy has gotten better & seems like a good dude. My one critique is he needs to do more homework on the teams he’s calling games for. It was obvious he didn’t have the requisite background information on ND’s roster Sun night. Same when he’s on ESPNU. He knows the game & has good insights but he knows he can get away w/ platitudes and going by a team’s reputation b/c a nationwide audience won’t catch his lack of detail.

Mark Packer is just such a fan of the game and I'm here for it. You can tell he loves what he does everyday, it fires me up. And you nailed it, he has an uncanny way of not showing any bias at all, despite the fact that he does coverage for the ACC network and lives in Charlotte.

Agree wholeheartedly on McIlory. At the beginning of the broadcast, he did appear to tip his cap to BK and his efforts the past 5 years and said he expects a reload more than a rebuild. It appears to me that he changed his tune a bit over the past few years when he would have sort of an arrogant "let's calm down, it's ND, they can't hang" air about him when we played a bigger opponent.
