Listening to xm college show last week (I think it was Luganbill) and I heard him say when asked if Notre Dame would make the playoff this year with an 11-1 record (competitive loss at Ga) and he answered no and then said probably not at even 12-0. Now we all know that type of season would be almost impossible to achieve but the lack of respect for this program is astounding. Why play the season-its becoming the WWF with a pre written script-unbelievable. His reason was the lack of success in previous big games. Absurd to judge a team by previous years the- culture of college football stinks in my opinion. Might as well just let espn chose who they want to play for commercial purposes. If I was a player at Notre Dame this would piss me off and I would make damn sure my guys were ready every week to do some damage.

ESPN only cares about ratings. They would choose ND.

Yup, and OU gets a pass. It’s infuriating yet predictable.

The idea that a 12-0 ND with road wins at Georgia, at Michigan, and at Stanford would get left out is almost beyond the pale. You basically have to assume that those are all 3+ loss teams and that ND has a poor SOS for that to even have a chance of being realistic.

But there’s no reason worrying about this when ND has something like a 1% chance of going 12-0 and hasn’t played a game yet. I’ll start talking about big picture stuff after we see how the Georgia game unfolds.

Sampson mentioned on his podcast that the Athletic has more subscribers who list Notre Dame as their CFB team than any other school

It'd be nice to see that parlayed into a second ND guy, at least in-season. I devour all of Pete's articles, wouldn't mind more Irish content. I also wouldn't hate seeing more recruiting material on there, but I realize that's not exactly their wheelhouse right now with all the power journalists they've got in the CFB game.

I'll tell ya, that subscription is worth every penny.

Dont have a sub any more so unsure what the backstory is but just read at 247 that Driskell's last day at BGI is today. Interesting to say the least.

Dayuummmmmmm poached by the Athletic no doubt

He said he was going to still cover ND football, I'm curious in what capacity. Maybe for a more official capacity for NBC. I know he is a bit stubborn and rubs people the wrong way but I still enjoy reading his insight and liked listening to the podcast.

I would guess it’s with Maven/SI. I know they approached some other guys on the beat with job offers recently.

I know some people really dislike Driskell for some historical reasons that I'm not privy to but he's tried to tone it down recently and appears to actually listen to other's points.

Hope he lands on his feet because he still loves the same school we do.

Anybody catch the latest BGI podcast? I thought it was strange that Driskell wasn’t on there. They also don’t have his prediction for the Virginia game posted. I’m not a subscriber, and lately I only go to the website to listen to their podcasts, but I’m wondering if he’s no longer with BGI?

Do you have any knowledge of why? I know reporters come and go, but unless I missed something that was out of nowhere.

Nothing public yet. he said he will still be covering ND though

Did some investigating. He was on a radio show called "757 at 6" on Wednesday - https://omny.fm/shows/757-at-6/bryan-driskell-9-25-19

During the host's introduction, he provided Driskell's new Twitter handle @coachd178. Apparently he will be announcing his new gig through that Twitter account soon.

Edit: not sure if that is a new Twitter handle actually. I thought his old one had BGI in it somewhere but I could be wrong.

He left BGI on good terms. He was on te Monday podcast w/ Lou Somogyi. They were both genuinely sad to no longer be working toggether. Sounded like each was choking up a little.

He sounds excited for his new gig. Pretty sure he wouldn’t join Irish Illustrated and i would hope he wouldn’t join Mike Frank (who already ha a good analyst in Jamie). Who knows?

I'm not sure that Mike would take him back. I prefer Jamie anyways
