Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com 2013 Team Recruiting Rankings

How does this happen....
ND has the same # of 5*s, more 4*s, less 3*s, higher avrage per recruit, and is behind Bama. I'm sure there's a logic behind this, so can someone splain to me.

Rivals uses the stars as a shorthand rating for individual recruits but their actual numerical grades are used to compile their class rankings, i.e. not all four stars are the same per their system.

By way of example, Alabama has 7 four stars recruits who have a 6.0 rating (the highest possible rating for a four star recruit) whereas Notre Dame only has three of those guys.

So what your saying is that the average is an average of stars, not an actual average of the recruits total rating (ie 6.0). Doens't make a lot of sense, but OK

This class will be adding at least two more studs. However we also need to consider that with all the positive reviews some of our players have been getting wouldnt be surprised to see Robinson, fuller, deeb get some bumps in their rankings. Does give us a very good shot at the top spot

Does anyone know when the final 2013 player rankings come out for Rivals and 247?

Regardless of whether or not this Class reaches #1 on 'x' recruting site, once Redfield verbals, I feel that this will be one of the most complete recruiting classes I have ever seen from any school----I'm taking into account talent and the various positions. Range and Depth.

I know other schools have had multiple 5 stars but what I am trying to explain (not sure if I am doing a very good job) is that practically every position is addressed, minus Kicker/Punter.

Cant say I really ever examined other schools past classes, but am I just being a dumb, overly excited homer? The level of praise from the supposed "borderline" guys has got me pumped.

We still have a kid from PA that was offered a "Preferred Walk-On" as a kicker/punter so technically we could address that position as well if the kid decides ND is the place for him and he can afford to not have a scholarship.

what was the reason?

There are a few theories making the rounds. Ira Denson, one of his good friends, is going to FSU and there are rumors Brantley is upset UF didn't recruit him. FSU is a strong possibility as his next landing spot.

There are also rumors UF could get either DeMarcus Walker -- Bama commit who apparently just completed UF's EE paperwork a la Anzalone -- or Montravious Adams, and some UF fans are wondering if that drove Brantley away. He comes off as one of the more immature prospects -- kind of reminds me of McNeil -- and he's a 4-star rather than a 5 because he's not known to be the hardest worker.

I think the guess that makes the most sense, though, is that he got into this all star game and started talking to recruits about their visits/recruiting experience/etc (Brantley committed in February, had a few moments where he wavered, and then shut down his recruitment before taking any of his visits) and decided he'd sold himself short. He hasn't said that UF is out of it or even behind, so he may just be opening it up to get the full recruiting experience.

Thanks for that info, that would be a nice after-dinner Cordial if we snag a preferred walk-on kicker/punter.
