Minor, Tatum, Cobbins and Berry. I can't think of a group of players that would've had more influence on me as a kid. Playing LB at a Catholic HS in the Midwest these guys were it for me as an ND fan.

lyron cobbins was probably my favorite LB from the '90s his two ints against usc in '95 was awesome and his int against texas toward the end of the game was huge. not sure their was a more awesome group of LBs than the '95 & '96 crew.

Good for him. He's always represented the university well.

Does ND pick up the tab for a scholarship player who leaves early and then comes back to finish up?

I want to say they do. Clausen and Tate both came back to finish degrees, right? I wanted to say they were covered then, but I could be wrong.

Here is a game from former Notre Dame CB Mike Richardson (#9 in red/white playing RB) playing against new WR coach Chansi Stuckey (#12 in blue playing QB). The Warner Robins vs Northside game is a fun game to attend and they are crosstown rivals sharing the same field.

One of my all time favorite players and the best to play DE in my lifetime. Single handily destroyed the Longhorns offense in the Cotton Bowl that propelled to ND to a NC. Still remember one play early in the game where UT was going toss sweep to their right. RB was so fast, he not only beat his man, but deflected (almost intercepted the pitch) before Campbell could get to it. Fumble recovered by the Irish.

I'm on the Texas board quite a bit. Longhorns are STILL pissed that Earl Campbell was kept out of the endzone in that bowl. They thought they'd crush the Irish in the Cotton, boy were they wrong! There's not even any Texas highlights in that highlight reel lol.

You can't put in Texas highlights when there aren't any.

Kory was one of my favorite players as well in my teenage years. Got his autograph at some type of fan function one year.

Kory Minor, Marc Edwards, Autry Denson, and Bert Berry for me.

Those are the Mt. Rushmore of the beginning of my ND fandom.

Those gold collared units were badass,… even if the results didn’t always match

Ironically, Lou Holtz had a part in securing the ‘77 NC for ND. He was coaching the Arkansas Razorbacks who were a huge underdog in the Orange Bowl vs #1 OU. To make matters worse, Holtz suspended his entire backfield after sexual assault allegations were made against them. The back up, Roland Sales; went on to set a record that day and the Hogs sprung the upset over Switzer & his Sooners. After ND demolished Texas, they were vaulted into the #1 spot and the rest is history

I still have that jersey style that Minor was wearing. It was an exact replica of what the players wore b/c it had the heavy elastic in the sleeves and were tight fitting around the torso so as not to be easy to grab by a defender. It was back in the day when ND gear by Champion could be found in most national sporting goods retailers. I snagged one from Champs b/c it was marked down from $125 to approx $50.

Fair enough, but my favorite FOUR Captains at one time unit was comproised of

Jeff Burris
Tim Ruddy
Aaron Taylor
Bryant Young

We saw that picture of those four dreadnoughts a few hours before ND FSU '93 and had a little more confidence walking into the stadium.
