Uh, this line... "Freeman, in recent weeks, has fended off multiple attempts from outside programs to pluck away key members of the Irish staff. "

There have been others? Aside from Rees. Like who? Is Clemson coming for Stuckey? NFL teams want Heistand again all of a sudden?

I will say, on McCullough, the guy left an NFL job - a better one than the Giants - barely a year ago. And it didn't appear he was pushed out. If he wanted to be a NFL coach, he already would be.

I think this is all nothing. Rams are not hiring Tommy Rees lol, and Rees wouldn't leave for Miami. Sometimes friends or those who respect you or share an agent with elevate your name during a search and it's all theater. If Mcvay thinks highly of Rees or they're friends there's zero harm in throwing some smoke with his name only to help Rees later on.

You gotta think MF’s head is spinning somewhat. Trying to put out fires here and there. Trying to learn to be the HC. Trying to recruit. Lol, crazy!

But just maybe he’s got the real info, and he’s pushing ahead nicely despite all the recent reports.

I tend to agree. Listening to Sarah Spain of ESPN on The Shamrock shed a little light on his goal. She noted that he wants to ultimately be a HC and when he saw how successful OC Eric Bienemy had still not landed a HC role, he realized the path may be easier in the college ranks.

If/when Tommy Rees moves on from ND, the first 2 people I'd call are: 1. Liam Coen OC/QB coach at Kentucky 2. Jeff Grimes OC at Baylor. If he doesn't leave this offseason, he's almost certainly in the NFL or a HC in college after next season.

We’ve probably barred ourselves from Grimes as long as we have Hiestand, which would be a shame if needed the next few years because agreed on him. Unless I have scheme philosophy mixed up, if they match then that’d be the opposite, a great marriage.

One of the main reasons I'm thinking Grimes is that Freeman has a connection on staff through Stuckey, as well as his incredible work at both Baylor and BYU.

Not sure if it's been mentioned here yet officially, but Matt Freeman is hearing from players that Chris Watt is back and involved with workouts.

I brought up his return a month ago and people had the audacity to question my ability to parse through internet rumors to get to the truth.

"* Is Heistand coming back? (Please sweet baby Jesus). I'm almost positive I saw Chris Watt on the sideline at the 20yd line catch a player who was running out of bounds. Isn't that the rumor, that the Heistand/Watt show was just waiting for the season to end?"

Preparing him to take over when Harry retires!
If true it won't be too long. Found this which I thought was interesting.

"
Most notably, the organization established the timeframe for a potential graduate assistant's seven-year clock and also moved to allow a third year in a graduate-assistant role within a college football program if an individual has amassed enough classroom hours.

Per the NCAA, a graduate assistant “May serve a third year if graduate-assistant coach completes 24-semester or 36-quarter hours during initial two-year period of appointment. Two-year 'clock' begins with appointment as graduate assistant coach.”

I thought they could only be a GA for a short period of time, but I didn't realize a GA had to be taking classes.

I wonder how that operates if the coach leaves for a year and then returns like Watt? Does the clock reset?

Does there have to be a former player at the coaching staff at all times? Is this the fans or The Vatican or both stamping this prerequisite?

Chris Ash being removed for the picture takes it down to three. My money is on Al Golden getting it.

Thankful Miami hired Gattis. Wonder where that leaves Michigan looking. Gattis didn't have a pleasing comment towards Michigan though.

One less hurdle to worry about with Rees now.

lots of folks speculated whether he might like a gig like this at ND as a senior advisor to Rees but hes likely heading to Texas now and that might put them in the driver seat for Arch Manning considering the family ties

Honestly, I can't blame him. When it comes to riding off into retirement you could do a lot worse than Austin, TX. And if he can get Arch to commit and they can win a Natty with him, he may even get a statute.

My assumption would be that, if this happens, the Mannings made it happen, and that'll be a huge tell as to where Arch is heading.
