They don’t seem to grasp that football is why they are Notre Dame and not a regional catholic school. The exposure from football is what has allowed them to grow into the prestigious academic university.

The optics of spending money on the football facilities is bad, but the president of the university will build a building named after himself while still serving as president. The decisions made at this university always confuse me.

According to this article, Fickell doesnt even have an agent.

I buy it. There is a “Board of Fellows” above the board of trustees that is like half priests and hates the ‘appearance’ of spending money on football. False idols, etc. One of the main reasons that the campus crossroads went down how it did was that they were able to say that they were turning an “athletics only” space into a multi-use space. Otherwise, never would’ve gotten the money approved for the renovation.

So put a chapel in the Gug next to the barber shop and build that thing.

I don't want Dan Mullen anywhere near Notre Dame. I'm surprised to see his name on so many threads on so many boards and social media. Why?

Hes a good ccordinator and also has a kid in South Bend

Guy was a successful coach at Miss State and wasn't awful at UF. He's developed QBs well and his HC experience will be needed if Freeman takes the reigns.

Not saying it has to be Mullen, but that type of experience is what would pair well if Freeman is given the keys.

Possibly. He is a Midwest guy and so is his wife, and it’s been reported before that they want to stay close to family.

This was my take too why Jack didn't name an interim yet. Freeman and Rees are both candidates. For those that are thumbing their nose to Tommy, if you were around the Twitter Space last night there was a lot of support for both guys to replace BK. The players love both coaches, it was the only unanimous sentiment besides "You have to retain Balis, that's the cornerstone guy we spend 90% of our time with." Book said Rees is the best coach he's ever had. Finke, Golic Jr, and KH spoke highly too. Tommy doesn't have to throw passes as HC, let the past go already.

The big knock on Mullen was that he was a lazy recruiter. Quite a few of us said the same thing about BK.

With Polian gone, ND could also give him a bump in money and title by making him recruiting coordinator. I do think they will pay the man his money, that is the one thing they seem ok with spending on.

They’re also close with the Fickell family. Makes more sense to me to want to stay out and get a pay bump than move across country for the same job with someone you’ve only been working with for one season.

The real question is does he take off to take a lesser HC position instead. (Cincy, VT, Duke)

I get this is a dirty business, but I've always put ND in a different bucket and Kelly as well. I have defended him for years and have bought in on doing things the right way etc. I really want to tell him to fuck off right now. I think about the players and the recruits and the broken trust. There has to be a better way to all of this, oh well.

Twitter ain't everything. Eli mentioned last night that many of the recruits committed to ND, not Kelly. Lot of emotional takes around here today (other posters), but everyone just needs to relax and forget the drama. We're in a good place as a program, it's not the same as it was in 2009. I think most kids will stick around regardless and even if we have a few struggles with a new coach we'll come out okay.

I don't hate it. There's no real alternative here for anyone who understands the stakes. Promote him TODAY so he can get to work on maintaining the integrity of our roster. Leave it to our f*cking admin to find some stupid reason not to do it though.

That's sorta my thought. yea they need to let them make their choice, but at the same time I hate how all administrations feel like this is their hire and are bigger than the program. They are not so make the right choice and make it now.

I'm here for the most part... you don't want to rush the wrong hire obviously but you have to move quickly.

I would still be shocked if its not Freeman. If they wanted someone else, I feel like they would have named Freeman interim coach. Instead they're not naming him interim because they would rather just name him head coach. So they're working on a deal which hopefully includes facilities concessions. That's my total guess.
