I would think that if BK's options are short right now, and he's looking for an out to the NFL (Despite no one looking his way) he can do two things: Right the ship to revive his stock, or we go down in flames and he looks to take over a middling program ala Strong/Kiffin and rebuild. If Petrino's transgressions can be overlooked, and Kiffin's past HCing blunders, and Strong's perceived failure at Texas can still land him a job, I'm sure Kelly's past success will open a lower Tier job for him.

Agree, I have no doubt BK can land somewhere in college. Maybe even in a upper tier program. He can always use the "school restrictions" excuse as to why things went south.

Even if he decides to try and right the ship to improve his stock, my thought is the human nature side of this is going to keep popping up. Will he wear headphones on the sidelines and try to overrule plays called in? If an OC is given complete control, how will BK feel or react when he disagrees with the game plan being put together?

The more I think about this, the less I am inclined to believe. Not saying Bogs is wrong, but wonder more if what he heard is more along the lines of rumors or wishful thinking from those who mentioned it? I guess I go back to my previous stated thoughts. JS gave BK one more year to make things work and these changes are coming from BK in an attempt to fix things. These in themselves would improve his stock if things are turned around next season.

i'd be incredibly curious to see how he could do at another program, i was truly hoping Oregon could have happened for him just to see how he'd do without academic restrictions being placed on him

Usc game Kelly sure looked like he wanted out of south bend, arms crossed, chin up, while nd was getting it's *** kicked! Thanks Kelly for stabilizing(besides last year) our program....but peace!!!

I was a huge Kelly supporter until it seemed like he was coaching and calling plays to get fired. I still believe he is a good coach and could succeed elsewhere, but not in south bend.

Do you have top three of projected OC that are realistic?

I have a top one I think we're getting.

Bogs, your info is interesting. Some of it is a little different from what I've heard on some key points, other parts are match up completely. Thank you for sharing.

Interesting. Any idea on the time line for an announcement?

Saban is a perfect example. At Sparty - he was just another coach fighting to stay above .500

Goes to LSU and Bama where the kids are Athletic-Students and not Student-Athletes and he is wanted by every coach in the Union....... and he really only had one great year at LSU.

Uhhh Michigan St isn't exactly a bastion of academic success for athletes. Much more likely his success at LSU had more to do with better access to talent in the southeast and a school that was willing to spend more money on coaches, facilities, etc.

Uhhhh the subject was how a coach would do better at a different institution..... Just as Kelly did better at Cincy and Saban better at Bama/LSU than sparty....

Just like someone on this board to twist the subject matter than actually read the statements..

I told you why he did better at LSU, namely better talent in the southeast. Didn't twist anything, there's nothing close to academic restrictions at MSU.

I'd like to see them look at Tony Franklin or Brian Wright for OC, both have put up powerful offenses.

By that statement, you diminish his ability - or the other statements from many - that he is a great coach - no? Or, is he only a great coach at LSU/Bama? How many universities were chasing him when he was at Sparty? Could he not teach/coach at Sparty? Surely a great coach can coach up any kid regardless of how many 'Stars' Rivals or ESPN gives a kid.

Don't get me wrong - Saban is a very good coach. Sometimes, the University/Coach don't match up.

Never said he wasn't a great coach, my argument was that the fact that he had better talent at LSU rather than supposedly reduced academic restrictions was the main reason he won big. You're grossly underestimating how much talent and winning titles go hand in hand in college football. If, according to your logic, it were just about coaching players up, then Saban could've stayed at Toledo his whole career and won championships.

Sounds a bit like hearsay. Can't see Swarbrick keeping Kelly in this situation. If 2017 goes badly the blame is on him. There is no upside to keeping Kelly on a leash. But you never know with the Dome, anything is possible. Just saying, can't see any other program doing something similar

Please no.

LAX, you should know better than to tease everyone. Could you at least provide their current conference?

I'll give you guys a hint, courtesy of a famous Walt Whitman poem:

I will release one new hint a day... think of it like the Morrissey Medallion Hunt... until the coach is named or it turns out I'm wrong.

(and yes, I know I'm being a total dick and trolling everyone... partly because this is just one thing I heard from one person about a person that interviewed and I'm not going to post unsubstantiated stuff here and have people be like "hah! you were wrong!" when it doesn't work out... also, Koon has a lot of fun trolling the board so I thought I'd give it a try)
