ND Books

Went to the Book Loft in Columbus, which is a really cool, 32 room for 32 genres attick-like store with a ton of stuff obviously. Saw a hand bag that reads 'I like big books and I cannot lie'. I'm going back because I regret not buying it, but also want to get a ND book and they had at least half of a dozen of them. I could buy online, but I like supporting the locals when I can.

I do not remember the exact titles, but I'm assuming they have the popular ones. One was 'Unbeatable' and I remember that title. Another was a Lou Holtz biography.

What are some of the best ND books you've read? Hoping to get a few suggestions so I know what to look for.

That actually sounds familiar, that might have been there.

I loveLou Holtz, know almost nothing about Rockne or ND's history post-1980s. I also don't know who Terry Hanratty is.

Read it, you'll enjoy it. It's basically half interviews with old players and coaches and covers the time just after Rockne died and no one knew if ND was going to continue to be a football power. Some of my favorite stories are about the fainting Irish, Frank Leahy going crazy, and how WWII affected college football and ND.

Thanks, I'll likely get that one depending on other mentions. What about Unbeatable? That was the only one I knew of going into the store, so I figured it's really good.

No Excuses - Charlie Weis

Resurrection - The Miracle Season That Saved Notre Dame by Jim Dent
Jim Dent, author of the New York Times bestselling The Junction Boys returns with the remarkable and inspiring story of one of the biggest comebacks in college football history.

In the 1960’s, Notre Dame’s football program was in shambles. Little did anyone know, help was on its way in the form of Ara Parseghian, a controversial choice for head coach—the first one outside of the Notre Dame “family.” It was now his responsibility to rebuild the once-proud program and teach the Fighting Irish how to win again. But it was no small task.

The men of Notre Dame football were a bunch of unlikelies and oddballs, but Parseghian transformed them into a team: a senior quarterback who would win the Heisman Trophy; a five-foot-eight walk-on who would make first team All-American; an exceptionally rare black player, who would overcome much more than his quiet demeanor to rise to All-American, All-Pro, Hall of Famer, and to the Minnesota Supreme Court. Parseghian would change everything, from the uniforms and pads to the offensive strategy. It would be a huge gamble against great obstacles. But Ara Parseghian had that look in his eye….

I have a couple ND books on my shelf, but this was the first thing I picked up specifically for my man cave when I got my new place.

I have those, all good, even 'excuses'... I'll add Unbeatable and Notre Dame and the Civil War to recent reads of mine that were worth it. Unbeatable is good and a very easy read, though it eludes to ND88 being the only team ever to win the Natty AND the academic natty in the same season at the start of the book then never touches on it again...

ND n the CW is more of a short textbook but I thought it was great...

The only book mentioned that they had was unbeatable, so I went with Lou's wins, losses, and lessons.

I read that one by Holtz and loved it. I think I have read it close to 5 times already and I have only had it for a few years.

Go Irish is an introduction to the University of Notre Dame for little ones. Colorful pages, combined with simple words, enhance a learning atmosphere for both child and parent. Early association with the spirit of Notre Dame provides knowledge and excitement for future years.
