I would hope that you guys believe I love Notre Dame football as much as anyone on this board-but this is using statistics in a semi/true way. Notre Dame hasnt been that good except for the tight end position. A few d-ends and athletes but its not what it once was. With that said I dont think it will be important for Kelly and how he wins. This team will win games now but I dont see the NFL thing changing much-and I think thats a positive for the purpose of Kelly is to win at this level. If he developes a few NFL studs so be it. Let the SEC supply the NFL with all the non student athlete prospects-its just not Notre Dame's way anymore. Just beat their @##$# on the field as they make their way to draft day.

How is it using statistics in an untrue way? Here is a list of NFL starters off of the top of my head. There is more than just a few outliers out there. We have a good amount of starters in the NFL compared to most colleges. You might be listening to too much SEC radio down there in GA.

Victor Abiamiri
Jordan Black (just cut, should find a gig)
John Carney
Anthony Fasano
John Carlson
Ryan Grant
Ryan Harris
Julius Jones (started two games for for NO last season)
Derek Landri
Corey Mays
Chinedum Ndukwe
Hunter Smith
Maurice Stovall
Justin Tuck

To put it in perspective, even Purdue has a more impressive list of current NFL starters right now than ND. It matters to me because if ND continues to not have first round studs in the draft, blue-chip recruits who want to play in the NFL will continue to avoid ND, plain and simple. I have a strong feeling the tide is turning though with the new staff, so no worries here.

Except for Tuck,Grant,Carney, all those other guys are mostly 2nd and 3rd stringers...
SEC schools and Miami send Pro Bowlers every year...

I'd rather have 20 yrs of suck in my football program than dishonesty and sanctions. Just sayin.

Agreed! And the fact that we have done well in this section is really awesome :).

And I think we will return to suppling the NFL with first round draft picks. Even though we run the spread, we will still have NFL ready players...see Michael Floyd. :)

Every player that I listed started football games last season.

Don't knock Purdue, they have the same amount of players in the NFL as we do (28) and more than Arkansas, Ole Miss, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, South Carolina, UCLA and Clemson... to name a few.... but we have more starters in the NFL than Purdue.

Plus they had three Pro Bowlers, so that's pretty good.

I wasn't knocking Purdue at all, just making the point that a program that ND is light years ahead of in terms of success recruiting, winning games, etc. is for some reason light years ahead of ND for churning out NFL starters/stars.

They are in front of a lot of teams that outrecruited them, outplayed them, and won more games. As are we.

How are they "light-years ahead" of us in churning out NFL talent? They have the same amount of players in the NFL with less starters.

I'd take:

Drew Brees
Shaun Philips
Kyle Orton
Nick Hardwick
Ray Edwards
Anthony Spencer
Dustin Keller
Matt Light
Bernard Pollard
Chike Okafor

over ND's list of top NFL players any day of the week. Maybe "light years" isn't the proper term, but Purdue's top ten NFL players crush ND's IMHO.

So you would take that over

Victor Abiamiri
Jordan Black
John Carney
Anthony Fasano
John Carlson
Ryan Grant
Ryan Harris
Julius Jones
Derek Landri
Corey Mays
Chinedum Ndukwe
Hunter Smith
Maurice Stovall
Justin Tuck

ok, to each their own. I certianly wouldn't call that "crushing" us. We have better players at TE, K, RB, DT and DE. I would only give them QB's and O-lineman. The rest is a wash.

You make a valid point, but I think most of us can agree the ND list could/should be MUCH more decorated than it is, and I truly think it will be within this decade.

True dat. There are a lot of future NFL'ers on this squad. I could see all of these guys playing well in the NFL:

Michael Floyd (no brainer)
Manti Teo
Cierre Wood
Louis Nix
Robert Blanton
Gary Gray
Braxton Cave
Tyler Eifert
Aaron Lynch
Ishaq Williams

That's just off the top of my head. There are always some suprises too, like Ryan Grant was.

All those guys suck... I see Fasano all the time and he's nothing special...

Sensative boy are we...

How about this.. After doing some research looking up stats and such things like that i love our boys that played for the blue and gold but even though our guys bust there butts and try very hard and some even start they dont make Pro Bowls and are not game changers except for Tuck. Grant and Carney are also pretty good players. What am really trying to say is we dont have any stars, game changers,Pro Bowl guys... No more Tim Browns

I looked up to see how our geat TE's have done in the NFL compared to Pro Bowl TE's

FASANO:GAMES:15....REC/39 ...YDS/528...TD'S 4
CARLSON:GAMES:15...REC/31...YDS/318...TD'S 1

COMPAIRED TO PRO BOWLERS
M.LEWIS GAMES:15...REC/58...YDS/700....TD'S 10
Z.MILLER GAMES:15...REC/60...YDS/685...TDS 5
J.WITTEN GAMES:16...REC/94...YDS/1002...TD'S 9
T.GONZALEZ GAMES:16...REC/70...YDS/656...TD'S 6
D.CLARK GAMES:6....REC/37....YDS/347...TD'S 3

Fasano actually compares pretty well according to your "research". Just because a player isn't a Pro Bowler doesn't mean that they "suck" either. We have also put other players into the NFL other than TE's as well.

But congrats on your first post over three sentences. baby steps...

Go ahead and show me these players ND has put in the NFL that are difference makers...
And dont start with Tuck,Grant,Fasano,Carlson...

And am not talking about guys that start, cause there is plenty of guys in the NFL that dont really deserve to start,am talking about a difference maker...

Why? You don't think those guys are difference makers?

Tuck - One of the best DL players in the entire league, super bowl difference maker
Grant - Went to the Pro Bowl
Fasano - By YOUR OWN STATS compares nicely to the best TE's in the league.
Carlson - One of, if not the best, offensive player on a team that won a playoff game last season.

Seem like difference makers to me...

...but this is using statistics in a semi/true way....

I dont agree, the 465-players-to-the-nfl stats can be used in good faith in the recruiting game. USC boasts of the number of players they send to the NFL on their media guides(the cover) along with the number of NC's and heisman winners(Kiffin leaned on this number in recruiting the last couple years because he couldnt tell his recruits about winning NC's or going to a bowl, so he was selling recruits that USC is a fast track to the NFL). That 465 says that 'this program develops NFL caliber talent'. It doesnt mean that you are going to be a great NFL'r, and it doesnt mean that you will have an NFL career. But it does say that going thru ND (and begrudedly, USC) that you are more likely to get an opportunity to play in the NFL after your college career. the numbers dont lie.

so if your an incoming recruit, and want to maximize your odds of going to NFL, i think it would make sense to go to a school that sends alot of players to the NFL. it is certainly not the only, or the best way to get to the NFL, but if you want the odds in your favor, as a recruit you may want to consider going to one of these top level schools.

LOL! :D
Don't even bother with these type of '13 yr old posters'. They never have reason and love to argue just to be different and annoy the heck out of us ;)

We also have the only player in history that won the heisman, National Title and was chosen first in the NFL draft all in the same year. Leon Hart.

I hate to get involved with this thread, because it is truly terrible. But I just wanted to point out that, amazingly, this has been true for over sixty years, but after tomorrow it won't be anymore. Kinda crazy.
