Watching Illinois gear up again to drive the paint into Clingan:

My guys looked bad the final two weeks of the season and for the SEC tourney, but have gotten hot at the right time. This is huge for us. Never been to the FF before. Only been to the Elite 8 once before this year.

Its easy to say that, but Uconns relentless defense doesnt give you many easy shots. Clingan eliminates everything inside and they are incredibly active and contest everything on the perimeter
I’m not down playing UConn’s performance at all. That was a crazy run, but Illinois was standing around a lot on offense and they were playing terrible defense.

UConn sure looks ready to repeat.

That was as good of a game as you could ask for. Neither one let up or blinked. Happy for Painter.

If only UConn didn't have that Clingon at center, Purdue might be hanging a banner next to the one Wooden won 92 years ago.

Interesting factoid about the '32 squad... Wooden's teammate was Hall of Fame hoops coach Ray Eddy

Purdue‘s 3 point shooting (or lack thereof) really kept the game close……they did just enough to get the win. Knecht was very impressive in the contest.

Yea not so sure about that. Uconn has shooters and theyve been doing this in The tournament while having their worst 3 pt run of the season by far. Their perimeter defense is outstanding and their movement without the ball and ball movement is 2nd to none. By advanced and standard metrics they are top or near top of the country in the majority of both offensive and defensive metrics.
No 1 offensive efficiency, no. 5 shooting %, no. 3 assist per game, Top 10 defense, top 10 blokcs/game, No 1 in assist to TO ratio, no. 1 point differential, no. 6 pts/game allowed, no. 5 defensive efficiency. I could go on and on. They’re basically top 12 in almost every single team measurable statistic. Also, Clingan only plays about 20 mins/game.

He only plays about 20 because he doesn’t have the stamina from what I’ve seen. UConn will need him to play more with Edey in there. That of course assumes they meet.

Yeah I think in the hypothetical UConn-Purdue matchup it goes to which big man plays the most minutes. If Edey’s out there and Clingan isn’t UConn’s in big trouble

Uconn is better at all 4 of the positions on the court by a wide margin., they arent on a historical run because of a guy that plays 20 minutes a night.

If UConn didn't have Clingan, I'd put money on Purdue. With him, I'll take the Huskies.

This is the game everyone's been waiting for. Tennessee couldn't speed Purdue up, can UConn dictate what Purdue wants to do and when UConn dives will Purdue bury 3's on the kick out from the big fella. Purdue is a much better 3 pt shooting team if they get open looks. How is Hurley gonna defend Purdue's post entries is the million dollar question. Clingan needs to play closer to 30 minutes and not get saddled with fouls early. I think he's the perfect guy to do it.

They cannot defend Edey without Clingan on the floor. That's a way more defendable opinion than "Uconn is better than Purdue at the other three positions by a wide margin". Newton is, the other three are not.

I do think Uconn will win but Clingan needs to have a productive game. Without him Edey will score 40 again and it will be close.

You're sounding like this is Indiana St v. Michigan State. UConn isn't better at 1-4 by a wide margin. I definitely think they are a better but Purdue is REALLY good 1-4 too, elite when Lance Jones shows up and doesn't shoot too much.

Gene's finally going to the Final Four. Good for him. Can't believe he couldn't get Troy & Todd to one in '87 / '88 or Big Dog in '94.
