There are zero people on the planet who put ND-Navy on par with ND-USC or any of the rest of those games.
I know, that’s why I posted that as a response to someone who does think the Navy game is part of the pageantry and tradition of CFB. JFC

The one unique thing about this years matchup was zero turnovers. We usually feast on turnovers against better Navy teams. Navy actually played their A game and we played a F game for the first half (at least on defense) we played a B game second half while Navy played a C game. We have yet to plate 4 quarters of B level football. We can win next week with a B+ result.
I could be wrong here but I feel like in years past, Navy would get a ton of turnovers on the outside pitch and went heavy qb run and power run in the first half to prevent those types of turnovers.

Care to elaborate further on the 2007 comment? I feel like since we aren’t stinking up the stadiums & have more than twice as many wins this isn’t quite like 2007 but I’m interested in hearing more of why you feel this way.
Not ND specific 2007, but in 2007 no top team was safe from upset. Considered one of the most chaotic seasons ever.

Sorry for triggering everyone with mention of that season. lol

Gotcha, my bad on that. I might’ve been the only one that failed to pick up on that seeing as how I don’t think anyone else posted anything similar. I just think of Notre Dame as the only thing to care about in college football & don’t care to follow anyone so my only memories of 2007 are….not good. Besides watching the Duke game at a restaurant in Chicago with some alumni which was pretty cool.

I fail to understand why both coordinators act weird in the first half week in and week out only to make adjustments and look like a totally different team in the second half. It's been the story of the season thus far for me.

There was no big adjustment on offense. Gilbert wasn’t paying attention during the same RPO they ran like 8 times in the 2H. It’s the defenses fault the third drive was with two minutes left.

Because wanting to play Navy makes you honorable? GFYS
Yes, every damn year until they call it off. Notre Dame does not have any agency in this debt of honor.
We pledged, they accepted. We're Chewbacca here, not Han.

If you do not understand, then maybe your idea of honor needs some work. Convenience is not a valid excuse.

Didn't see the Brewu injury. Bowen just got rolled up in traffic on the goal line.
The second time they suplexed Bettis when he was already out of bounds was definitely a bit excessive though.

They ran the ball five times in the first half. The fifth one was the James TD right before half. Walton had zero carries of those five.

They threw it 14 and completed 7. I don't understand this, but I suppose if they'd completed more passes and scored more points, it would have been fine. I would have thought they'd come out running because they could and because they know what Navy is going to do.

Navy's offense has absolutely nothing to do with this.

Going to sound a little cliche but this is almost 💯 planned operation.... Knowing Navy is a clock gauging time of possession whore, they likely think we need to score fast and quick to make Navy abandon the run sooner which is advantageous.... 2 things occurred that they absolutely didn't want to happen:

1 -- Navy holding on to the ball for almost 9 mins. Converting on several 3rd and even 4th downs. But holding them to a FG was still a win
ñ
2 -- going 3 and out while taking almost no time off the clock for our ourselves. This forces your defense right back out, it extends the game for Navy because they have a favorable clock and can't score in a hurry, and puts even more emphasis on our next drive.

If you remember the broadcast made a point about the inverse for Navy. They needed a combination of turnovers and/or 3 and outs to result in 6 zero score possessions for ND. This was they're own calculation based on average drives per game with a formulated Time of Possession.

Grabbing an immediate 14-3 lead would have done wonders for the game

These ratings seem like a crock if Indiana has that high of a ranking despite taking Minnesota to OT.

You think IU v Minny is a crock, look at all the ones on the left of the graphic. :ROFLMAO:

That said, those aren't ratings or rankings. It's just a comparison of net success rates; the percentage of your successful offensive plays minus your percentage of unsuccessful defensive plays. That's it.

Successful Plays:
First Down: Gains at least 50% of the required yardage.
Second Down: Gains at least 70% of the required yardage.
Third & Fourth Down: Gains 100% of the required yardage (a first down or touchdown)

A positive net success rate means your team moved the chains and stayed on schedule more consistently than your opponent. A negative net success rate means your defense allowed the opponent to stay on schedule more often than your offense did

All it's saying is how well you played vs how well your opponent played, down to down.
