-The love fest for Navy all night was tiring. I understand they are a service academy and I've got a lot of respect for those guys, but when they come into South Bend we should be allowed to hate them, they are our longest standing rival after all. I can tell you the respect and love only goes one way too. While the cadets and Navy fans were cool, they really don't like ND and I heard more than one talk about how much they wanted to beat us. I don't think they spend the whole game talking about how great ND is and how many ND guys served in the Navy when we play them in Annapolis.
.

Oddly enough - it was mentioned on the broadcast - we have never actually played them in Annapolis. We should do that sometime. I don't care if their stadium is small.

I think we should keep playing Navy, but we need to do it differently. To open the season, or end the season, or at least on one end of the other of a bye week. Playing them late in the year sandwiched between two tough road games does us no favors. Guys are going to be sore all week.

Glad it was fun in person. On TV it was just a grim and rather miserable looking affair. But at least we won. Some years we lose that game.

Didn't know that, I knew we tend to play them in a different location during their "home" game years but I didn't know we have never played them there.

Why don't they let Stepherson take punts or kickoffs

They should definitely let him take punts if it's not going to be Sanders. That might've been Finke's first turnover of the year, but he's been questionable fielding it multiple times.

We surely don't use a our personnel wisely.

To start the game it looked like the whole team was in a funk that started in the second half of the WF game. Then, we started RTDB, and the team started to play well on both sides.

Wimbush lost his confidence throwing the ball, and I think he got it back when he threw that long pass to Stepherson.

It was good to see Boykin make some catches. When your QB is sailing passes high, put a taller receiver like Boykin in to make some plays.

I think we are going to have a good D-line next year...our young guys played well today.

I didn't agree with the horse collar call on Love...he used the top of the shoulder pad to get the RB down.

I liked the Rockne uniforms...especially the helmets

I was there...got soaked in Section 20. Great experience nevertheless.

Wimbush looked jacked up to play as everything was high and good grief number 10 needs to get replaced on punt return. Good win though...mental toughness toward the end was impressive. Signing off from Oregon, Ohio-about to make a 10 hr trip tomorrow back home...

My man....Section 20 for 45 years...

It has been an issue I’ve had all year, but I don’t get why we do all these slow developing plays when we have one of the fastest, most athletic offenses in the country

You can't score if your offense is on the sideline. Not counting the final possession when we just took a knee, we had something like three possessions per half. We scored on four of those possessions. Time of possession is always a problem when playing Navy. What amount of time was each offense on the field?

The Navy game plan involves using up the clock with a methodical three to four yards per carry and full use of the game clock. Defensively we were unable to get three and outs and that severely limited our offensive scoring opportunities. Kelly and his defensive coaches need to spend some serious time in the off-season studying game film of those teams that successfully shut down the option game. Get in the film room and watch Navy, Army, and Georgia Tech games over and over and over again.

I have a lot of respect for Navy. Their coaches take inferior talent, out-coach our staff, and play us competitively every year by using a scheme designed to limit our possessions. If they had equivalent talent they'd beat us every year.

I’m so sick of Notre Dame playing Navy every year and I’m even sicker of having to hear the Navy love fest for four quarters. Notre Dame has more than payed its debt to Navy from World War 2. I don’t like the Naval Academy team, literally nothing good has ever come from playing them and that series has long since passed its expiration date.

I disagree. Play them every year until they decide to call it.

Playing Navy is like a root canal without any pain meds. This game was only close because we tackled poorly. Frustrating to see 3rd and long and they run for 8 - 18yds and get the first down. Get 2 or 3 stops in the game and the score isn't close.

This game is always hard to watch. There have been a lot of injuries on both sides because of this game.

I was hoping that this game was a blowout. I wanted to see some of the seniors who didn't get or had very little playing time.

Tailgate was cold, when that wind got going fireball was the only antedote.

Wimbush is a bit slow on the recognition. Then he rushes and things sail. Kid puts a lot of pressure on himself to succeed. He will be ok. He has the tools, just gets overwhelmed from time to time.

Special teams are still a work in progress.

Tackling and ball stripping were better first four games.

Rumors they will be selling alcohol in stadium next couple of years. Don't know if that is good or bad.

This season has been a good step in the right direction over last year

Most Irish people are drunks anyway, so go for it.

Well, BK finally won a one score game. So he’s got that going for him...which is nice. I think he even noted this in his presser commenting that they can “check that box”

Three times this season Navy has posted 72 carries in a game:

Cincy: 72 carries, 569 yards, 5 TDs
SMU: 72 carries, 559 yards, 6 TDs
ND: 72 carries, 277 yards, 1 TD

My Postgame Thoughts:
1) Much respect for the Naval academy and this series. The respect that these 2 teams have is real fun to watch.
2) This group of seniors wanted to get a W, glad to see them get a W at their last game.
3) Just another day at the office for Greer Martini with 15 tackles and Julian Love may have not gotten an interception, but I'll gladly take his 14 tackles.
4) Nice to see Stepherson have a breakout game.
5) I've harped all year about how Wimbush needs to improve with his passing game (which he still needs to do so), but our wide receivers need to learn to dive for a ball to make that extra effort.
6) Glad to see EQ walk off after his injury, that didn't look good on TV.
7) This has been a head scratcher all year, but hey coach Kelly wanna throw a monkey wrench into Stanford's defensive planning? Put CJ Sanders on offense...both he and Stepheson on the field at the same time, could be scary.

GO IRISH!!

It was a horse collar. I didn't think it was but when they showed it on the jumbotron it looked like Love definitely grabbed the back of the neck of the runners shoulder pads. The DB's and safties were tackling high and reaching on a regular basis throughout the game. Kind of bound to happen sooner or later when tackling like that.

-Tough sitting through the game, even in my Dallas area living room
-Winbush needs to complete the easy passes
- frustrating to see them get 1st downs on 4th and long
- not impressed by OL yesterday
- take the win and move on
- from what I saw of the Stanford game, seems we can run on them
- anybody ruled out for Stanford?

...yea, gotta reach across and get under the armpit or grab jersey. too close to not call for a Navy kid...guys ya gotta know anything that looks wrong is going to be handed to Navy...couple calls were exactly that...probably would not have been called in a ND vs Georgia game...but will be called for Navy.

No, we can't end the Navy series just because they play us tough. That's nonsense; what happened to honor and tradition?

Wimbush has not progressed, much, since UGA. I think the entire team suffers as a result of that: The D has to put in more work because we can't sustain drives, and the other contributors on O try to perform outside of their comfort. It's nice that we haven't had the turnover issues we've had in the past, though.

It seems like Wake Forest just killed our mojo. The team doesn't have the same confidence level, anymore.

I am okay with playing Navy if they stop doing blocks that injure our players every single year. It's not worth the risk of playing them.
