Since no one else has...

1: Wimbush. Man. He needs to play better. Settled down starting with the last possession of the second quarter, but before that he was way too deep in his own head.

2: Josh Adams just looks beat up out there. Time to spread the carries around a little more. I don't think Dexter had one all game.

3: Aside from Stepherson, the WRs were pretty disappointing. Getting Wimbush and his WRs' in sync has to be a priority for the offseason.

4: I thought the D was generally solid. Good tackling. Patient. Navy never got behind them. And it's just so hard to turn TFLs against this sort of offense.

5: That said, you saw the experience out there. Martini and Trumbetti both had huge games. Less so Coney, and Daelin Hayes, for instance, was mostly notable for his mistakes.

6: If Finke can't even handle the fair catch or fall-on-it, maybe get someone back there who will actually return punts. That fumble of his almost lost the game.

7: That chop block penalty on Bars was total garbage. In fact, several penalty calls went against us tonight.

8: Kind of tired of playing Navy. Not so much Navy's fault so much as the announcers who go on and on about the special bond and the gritty hustle of the Navy players like I haven't been hearing about it for 20 years now.

9: Mostly Wimbush needs to play better. That's all.

I think his offseason Wimbush needs to pull a Braxton Miller. Let Book, Avery Davis and Phil battle.

Some nice tackles were made, but overall the tackling was awful. Most of the plays keeping Navy in the game were directly attributable to poor tackling.

Completely agree with Wimbush assessment

Hate playing Navy, but it won't change

Must get much better to close the season strong, 10 wins (hopefully)and possibly a bowl win.... not bad

We won't beat Stanford unless Wimbush can pass better

Not going to happen or should it. And I wish people would stop harping on Adams work load. He's only averaging 16 carries a game. Most #1 backs carry the ball more than that. The kid with Wisconsin who I watched today has about 75 more carries than Adams this year.

Are you stating it’s not going to happen nor should it?

This is what I would like, but it won’t happen.

We've invested three years in him at QB with two years of eligibility remaining. Keep working with him off season and spring practice. Next season he needs to play much better or by mid season Phil J. could be breathing down his neck.

Mental toughness won this game as Navy really did their thing and junked it up. Concerned about Adams as he really looks used up but fought his butt off to shake free. Receivers need to get a little better separation and QB needs a fundamental review of his mechanics for next year. He drops the ball too low on his set up and never gets to the front leg with the throw. Still he's the man to run this team he's tough as nails when it counts. Liked what I saw on toughness and how can you lose with Ara on the front and Rockne on the back. Go get one against Stanford in a real alley fight big man on big man. I'd like to keep the shoes and helmet-very nice. 10-2 and a good bowl game. Lastly now you know why Navy doesn't get a chance to play against many other big conference teams-nobody wants to play those Marines.

I was there...got soaked in Section 20. Great experience nevertheless.

Wimbush looked jacked up to play as everything was high and good grief number 10 needs to get replaced on punt return. Good win though...mental toughness toward the end was impressive. Signing off from Oregon, Ohio-about to make a 10 hr trip tomorrow back home...

That is horrible reasoning. You do not keep doing something because of the past. Who cares that the staff has invested three years in him? That type of thinking leads to shit decisions. Either he is the best QB on the roster and thus he should play or he is not the best QB on the roster and thus should ride the pine or change positions. Never make a decision based on a sunk cost.

I don't know if Wimbush will be the best QB next year or not but his play this year does lead me to believe that an open QB competition is called for.

I’m so sick of Notre Dame playing Navy every year and I’m even sicker of having to hear the Navy love fest for four quarters. Notre Dame has more than payed its debt to Navy from World War 2. I don’t like the Naval Academy team, literally nothing good has ever come from playing them and that series has long since passed its expiration date.

That's fine, but there's a difference between an open QB competition and having him switch positions and then having 3 unknowns battling it out.

Section 136

Seems like every year the stadium gets quieter. Did they save if sellout streak continued? Lots of bare spots.

I agree with this post. It's not just that Navy can actually win sometimes now, or even make it a game. For me, it's awful to watch, and too many injuries. You blow them out, and "it's just Navy!". I actually fell asleep at halftime and missed most of the second half, yawn.

BINGO! on the bolded...

D has played a little like they are satisfied with their season since the second half of Wake. Sure there are flashes, but not the tackling, attacking, and intensity we saw up to the second half of WAKE. Enough sloppy mixed in to derail really good performances. Tackling is just focus and effort once you get to the guy with the ball...ND guys aren't seeing it through...SMH.

Wimbush is WAY, WAY, WAY too easy to unsettle in the passing game...again, what is up with the mental makeup at the QB position...gotta fix it.

Receivers...except for KJ, seem to lack the ability to be bigger than the game/situation...again a mental makeup thing???

Returners...A giant hole opened up on the first kickoff, and sanders did enough to get there just as it closed...seriously, this is getting old. Fink...good hell... tries to return it when he shouldn't, watches it bounce when he should fair catch it...it was a matter of time before his decisions got him in trouble. WHY IS IT SO HARD FOR ND TO MAKE THE RETURN GAME WORK???? Been screwing with this since Floyd started returning punts in a bowl game...No appreciable improvement since. Punting...really inconsistent, and too frequently not up to expectations when needed. More mental Makeup issues???

Adams ran hard but he is clearly banged up...and he took too many shots today. Oline should have blown Navy up...they did ok, but they didn't blow Navy up.

Stanford might be less than usual Stanford, but they will still devour a team that is satisfied with their season...ND better come out hungry and execute.

I was there for my first game at ND stadium. It rained. My 6 year old cried. My too cool teenage son whined. Sissy Californian children. I think the weather made the experience memorable and authentic.

Stepherson is by far the best WR in person. Wimbush came out misfiring, but calmed down. The D seemed to give up a lot of 3rd and 4th and longs. They ran a llllottt of plays and used up a llottt of time. ND won. This game encapsulates the last 25 years of ND, slightly annoying, but still kind of cool.

Another game where our opponent plays one of their better games (Wake, Miami, Navy) and we play well below average in various parts of the game. We have got to do better than Finke. Starting him in the slot over our other players is a Schmidt move and I'm done with it. Totally unacceptable that he screwed the momentum for us. He didn't get. Scholarship to drop punts. We held Navy to 17 points which is actually pretty darn good it just didn't feel like it. So many 4th down conversions and missed stops. Navy was playing ghee game to beat ND again! No excuse for some of the Wimbush sorry pass attempts or 3 or 4 of the drops. Need to see Dexter and Stephenson showcased more. We are blessed to have 9 wins and most them in the bag by the 4th Qtr. Finish strong and dominate Stanford. They are ripe for the Pickens for once.

Dead on with all your points, especially #1 & #9, primarily due to his inability to be a consistent and efficient passer. As I mentioned in a different post, helluva a runner, but he sucks when it comes to passing.

Every year I HATE watching the ND and Navy game. I've been to 2 at ND stadium over the years, and swore that I would NEVER attend another one. It's the most slow moving and frustrating game of the year to sit and watch (let alone the weather sucked yesterday). It gets tiring to watch virtually the same trickery, chop-blocking, play those gnat f**kers run consistently throughout the game. Plus, I think that they get by with a lot "penalty plays" just because they are Navy. Just tough to enjoy that game each year!

Really becoming a signature move of BK...His high school approach to playing players he likes, not the best players, is freakin annoying. Stepherson is finally getting his share, but Dex is totally getting screwed. It is a joke.

If Finke doesn’t fumble this game isn’t close. No reason to have him back there.

Wimbush bounced back nicely after a miserable first half.

Adams is hurt. No other way to put it.

A win is a win especially against Navy

-First ND game in person (section 119). Freezing, windy, and rainy but overall an awesome experience. I was far happier with that win watching it in person, in the atmosphere of the stadium, than I would have been sitting at home pacing around the house getting angry.

-I had a crotchety old boomer ask me to sit down because I couldn't see while he was sitting down. Him and his wife left at halftime.

-Rocco's is as good as people say it is.

-Adams is clearly banged up or just worn down.

-Finke needs to find a bench to sit on, he nearly cost us the game.

-Mack needs to find a bench to sit on, next to Finke.

-Are our WR's coached to drop multiple balls per game?

-Stepherson is a baller

-I'm beginning to feel the aggressiveness was coached out of Wimbush IRT running. I felt he left several holes there in which he could have gained big chunks of yardage. He is less dangerous that way.

-The defense played Elko's "bend but don't break" most of the game. Another game under 20 points, and 7 of those were gifted grâce à Finke. Navy carried the ball 76 times for 277 or 3.6YPC. Overall, a pretty good game from the defense.

-I hate Navy and I hate playing them. I was right next to the cadets and their band and now I eternally hate their stupid fight song. Which they play after every. single. first. down. The cadets were pretty cool guys though and there were even a few hot female cadets, and they were swarmed with thirsty dudes all night.

-Playing Navy is a lose/lose/lose situation. If you actually lose that is embarrassing on a national level. If you win by slim margin like we did that is also slightly embarrassing. And if you blow them out you get, "well good job you blew out Navy."

-The love fest for Navy all night was tiring. I understand they are a service academy and I've got a lot of respect for those guys, but when they come into South Bend we should be allowed to hate them, they are our longest standing rival after all. I can tell you the respect and love only goes one way too. While the cadets and Navy fans were cool, they really don't like ND and I heard more than one talk about how much they wanted to beat us. I don't think they spend the whole game talking about how great ND is and how many ND guys served in the Navy when we play them in Annapolis.

-Wimbush is like playing with fire, sometimes we get burned and sometimes he burns them.

-My wife, a Gators fan and someone who has been to many more college games than I have (that was only my 3rd college game ever), noted how "old school" the ND gameday experience and stadium are. She noted the lack of name brand, franchise concession stands (Chick-fil-A, local franchises, etc.), the lack of over corporatization around the stadium (first downs weren't "brought to you buy Coca-Cola", the jumbotron wasn't sponsored by some bank or something), which makes me very happy. Even in the windy rain the whole experience was awesome and my wife loved it. My daughter loved the marching band and following them to the stadium. She was too shy to take a picture with the leprechaun though.
