So maybe stars do matter a bit

There's also tons and tons more 2 stars then there are 5... Not really a fair comparison.

If everyone was evaluated equally, it would actually support that there's a correlation, but as prospects are evaluated more highly, they are critiqued more closely. I think that's why there odds jump as much as they do - if you're going to be a 5 star, then you're going to have been evaluated extensively, pitted against top-flight competition and there will be as few unknowns as possible. 3 and 2 stars are oftentimes not as heavily evaluated so it's more of a crapshoot.

I guess my point in posting it was that even though we like the upside of a lot of 3 star guys, being a 5 star historically carries over to longer-term success.

You have to look at percentages and when doing that stars do matter. They aren't the end-all-be-all but the are a good indicator.

Am I reading that correctly? There is a 60% chance that any random 5 star recruit will not eventually be drafted by the NFL?

So that would mean 60% don't get drafted like Pops said. IDK?

the door is over there ;)

Apparently I didn't go to law school to play reading either. But in my defense, "not" is a tiny easy-to-miss word that rarely* affects the actual meaning of the sentence.

*Completely untrue.

Nothing against Matthew Burrell but he is up there as just one of the ugliest prospects I have ever seen.

I think that's probably incorrect. A few years ago, someone (I think it was SI) did some analysis of the previous several years and found that 50% of 5-star recruits went on to be selected in the first 3 rounds of the draft (and we can safely assume that several more got drafted in later rounds), 10% of 4-star recruits went in the first 3 rounds, 3% of 3-star recruits, and less than 1% of 2-star and below recruits were eventually selected in the first 3 rounds.

“@BruceFeldmanCFB: 25% of the first-round picks are Florida kids: Bortles, Watkins, Mack, Shazier, Pryor, Clinton-Dix, Benjamin, Bridgewater.”

Yeah, it definitely seemed low to me.
