I'm very excited about this one. The Witch was excellent.

I thought the witch was more accessible, so I'd say I certainly "enjoyed" that one more. But I'll have the lighthouse on my mind for a while.

I really wanted to see this tonight but couldn't find a showing that worked for my buddy and I. Instead we're gonna go see Parasite.

Same for me but the opposite. I can't see parasite until next week. I can't wait. Snowpiercer was one of my favorite movies of 2013.

That is most certainly true. I could not have been more wrong about what was gonna happen.

How do I convince my subtitle averse wife into seeing it with me? Is it dialogue heavy?

I'd say it's very gripping and visual. You'll need the subtitles to understand exactly what's going on but its not non-stop dialogue.

Watched Drunk Parents and Blood and Steel. The latter is a 1959 WWII movie. Bad script and acting.

Alec Baldwin and Selma Hayek starred in DP. Also a bad script and acting.

Drunk Parents was an option on a flight recently. I didn't watch but caught glimpses from somebody else's screen. It did look awful.

Thought the Joker was okay. It's basically Taxi Driver with makeup. Phoenix's performance was great, I just think the movie is pretty overrated.

I understand that they wanted to go in a different direction with this Joker, but you can never convince me this guy is going to become Batman's nemesis. I realize this is not going to connect to any other DC movies, but if you're going to include the Wayne family in the movies, you would assume that Bruce would become Batman in that universe. I think the movie would have stood on it's own just fine if Arthur Fleck was just a dude instead of "Joker." It wouldn't have made any money though.

I've read the theory that basically this Joker is the inspiration for the Joker that goes on to be Batmans nemesis. Because timeline wise it doesn't even make sense for it to be fleck. He's what at least 40 in joker being generous. That means by the time Bruce is Batman age he'd be pushing 60.

Cesar Romero was 60ish when he played the Joker in the original TV series.

Yeah but Adam West was 38.

Just saying ages have been all over the place throughout the many narratives. Out of all the fantasy elements in these movies and series, age progression/comparison is pretty low on my list of things that bother me.

Serious question. Have any of these movies stuck closely to what was written in the comics?

Jack Nicholson's Joker was quite a bit older than Keaton.

In the Original Batman, Cesar Romero created the role of The Joker. He WAS 60 years old.

Are you, me?

You took all the words right out of my mouth.
Great movie, execution wise.
Not revolutionary though.

Saw, The Lighthouse

Give this movie ALL of the awards. Holy smokes, batman. This movie was a roller coaster of emotions. One of the movies where you need a few minutes after the ending to adjust back into the real world.

I've been watching Amadeus over the past couple of nights and am almost finished. Heck of a good movie. Hulce's giggling, immature, bratty portrayal of Mozart is probably grossly inaccurate, but still fun to watch. F. Murray Abraham was outstanding and deserved his Oscar. It's interesting that his career seemed to drift afterwards and never quite lived up to his obvious talent. Excellent movie and well acted all around.

Parasite was amazing. One of the best films of the year. Bong Joon-ho is one of the best directors working today.

It really is a flick you should see blind. I knew almost nothing and what a wild ride it is.

I even think the trailers are a little misleading, which helps. Great movie, can't recommend it enough.

Certainly more visual than plot driven, but it's very gripping. The Witch was much more traditional than this one.

On my list to watch this weekend. Got great reviews and really enjoy Mendelsohn. Great cast. The lead (TM) also has the lead in the new Dune film coming next year.

Just saw Midway, and it exceeded my expectations. Thought they did really well with the small budget they had.

Yup. He's got a bright future. I'm stoked for Dune.

The King was much better than I expected. I think the ending could have been a bit more developed, but still a great movie. Love how he dealt with Sean Harris (William) though lol.. I wish a few actors got more film time. Mendolsohn the most, but Tara Fitzpatrick is also a great actress and was only in like one scene. Most of the women have serious acting chops but were used little.
