I generally like Private Ryan, but I do think Hanks was miscast. He is really pretty limited as an actor, in spite of Hollywood's insistence that he has great range. He seemed like an actor playing soldier. His face seemed to have a two second delay switch where you can see him thinking, "How would a real soldier act now?", then acting our his conclusion, woodenly.
I dislike gratuitous gore in movies; Tarantino, like most directors who specialize it, uses it because he lacks ideas. Not to say all his movies are bad.
The most overrated movie of the last 25 years is "Dances with Wolves." It was laughably bad; nothing in it was remotely serious and Costner established his acting mediocrity to such a remote depth that he will never get out that hole. I laugh in ridicule even now thinking about it.
A lot of people like "Das Boot" and "Out of Africa." I tried to watch both several times but fell asleep each time. "Das Snore" is more like it.
Not big into classical movies, but I really liked das boot. Not much of a plot, but I feel like that's a really accurate depiction of submarine life. Hard for me to say that because ive never been on one, but I'd imagine it's extremely close to the movie. I'd recommend that movie.
Side note, semi pro is my most underrated commedy.
I'm sure it's me about Das Boot; everybody I know likes it.
Good Will Hunting, Argo, The Town, Gone Baby Gone, Pearl Harbor, State of Play, and Armageddon?
Come on

Prometheus.
Who thought it was good? I thought the general consensus was "wow this could be awesome! Oh... swing and a miss."

I'm not sure what critics were saying, I just remember sci-fi geeks hailing it as the second coming.
So many George Clooney movies just bore me to death--they often get good reviews but seem to be in too many cases just a vehicle to have Clooney walking and talking--
Solaris/Syriana/Burn after reading/ The peacemaker/ Up in the air/The American/Michael Clayton etc
Titanic's screenplay sucked... Really badly. But I actually think it's the opposite of overrated. It's that movie I find guys hate almost universally, but I don't know why. The entire last 2 hours of that movie is nothing but one long action scene that's shot and edited extremely well. But guys act like it's Twilight or The Notebook or something.
The Titanic is only a romance superficially, it was made because James Cameron loves to blow shit up. I (usually, because I hated Avatar) like watching James Cameron blow shit up. At least he's good at shooting action unlike certain other directors coughmichaelbaycough.

The fact they keep making Spider Man.
Exactly!
