It seems like a pretty easy concept to understand. White people won't get assaulted if a white guy commits a terrorist attack but Muslims will if a Muslim commits a terrorist attack.

And I'm sure there are cases of people from all backgrounds getting messed with because they're associated with a race/religion that happens to be identified with a crime.

Look what happened at the LA riots...white cops beat up a black guy....setting off riots against innocent people.

Trayvon Martin is another example. Hell, Zimmerman was part mexican. Yet reports of beatings were all over the place.

It happens. But I guess MSNBC doesn't let you know.

More info on the younger brother: captain of the wrestling team, was an all-star wrestler, was a good leader, somebody that you could look up to, was a volunteer assisting disabled children, friendly, "seemed like an American." Per an interview on CNN.

Certainly doesn't seem to fit a profile huh?

Being linked to a group doesn't mean that you were funded by one....Maybe they got involved with people on the web that convinced them to do this? Or maybe they hooked up with other like minded crazies (the reason they're bringing in others, like those in the black car) that all came together, led by some radical, and did this?

And like CBS is saiing now...These guys had training. Coming over here, being off the grid, organizing the plan....So I'm pretty sure that warrants "the amount of ink" it's getting.

How is volunteering in your community and being the captain of your school's wrestling team "being off the grid"? I'm not even taking the stance that there's no way that they received some assistance or that they're absolutely not involved with a larger organization, but some of your "evidence" seems patently false.

Yup, just providing quotes/information from the interview I saw since, prior to their identities being fully disclosed, there was some debate as to whether or not the suspects were American and/or white.

No, man. This is the whole point. People are complicated. Things aren't always so simple. People that do bad **** aren't wire to only do bad **** for their whole lives, or vice versa. Good people can snap and do terrible things. That is why the question people want answered is why? Most people are interested in that because they don't have your gift for straight binary thinking.

I think what bothers me is there were clearly people out there who were rooting for this to be a white male lone wolf type simply because it would help certain political agendas if it was... and hurt said agendas if it wasn't... in fact read the piece Irish pat has referred to here... he CLEARLY lays out the political consequences... in fact that's all he does... protecting someone from racism had nothing to do with it... at least to some, and that was troubling.

Left, Right, Middle, whatever,... the impact on your parties political advancements should be the last thing on anyone's mind right now imo...

Yeah, I just heard that from CBS (what I'm watching at work). Earlier they said the older one had the citizenship and the younger had green card. Then I heard neither one...Now I'm hearing they both do. Sheesh

They are Chechnyan so that's a decent indicator... i also heard a high school buddy of his on the radio today, he clearly made him out to be a 'normal' Muslim (Normal meaning reg ole non-terror driven person of Islamic beliefs)... though I guess anyone could have gotten on the radio claiming this and that.

I think it goes both ways. I have no rooting interest on what the motive is, but it definitely seems like the other side of that coin is people like Pat who don't seem to be psychologically capable of dealing with the idea that it might not be al-Qaeda style terror attack and just some crazy idiots.

I don't generally think it's safe to assume anything....particularly not in this matter. Who knows what the motivation was? Just providing some information given by former classmates/teammates of the younger brother. I was hoping it might provide some perspective. The younger brother was educated in America, took part in All-American type activities, was described as looking like he was an "American" (white right?), and by all the accounts I've heard so far appeared to others as a well-adjusted kid. Not exactly the profile that some have been pushing. Not Arab, not outwardly radical.

More resonable, would be that they came over here (the older one possibly with a radical mind already) to get educated and such...and over time, the older brother, convinced by other radicals either over here, or on the web...whatever, convinced the younger brother to buy into his crap.

While I still think there is a possiblity that they came here with the intent to harm given that regions history and that radical islam hates us....Another theory would be that the older one, already a crazy, sold his younger brother on this with propaganda

I do! Yes, it's a possiblity.

But the fact that they're foreign, islamic, and obviously had a plan....is more than enough to assume that it was something bigger.

It's not like they were in some small town, in a cabin in the woods....etc.
