Elko can do whatever the hell he wants. Doesn’t mean we can’t poke a little fun at A&M about it.
If you’re going to throw money at mercenaries, don’t be shocked when they jump for the next better deal. Plus they’ve got that schedule coming up in 2019. Karma, is all.

I absolutely love smack talking about TAMU lol.... I'll bag on them all day when it comes to this topic. It's awesome that the doer is getting done this time around.

I just have no problem with Elko riding the wave of success.

If you’re going to throw money at mercenaries, don’t be shocked when they jump for the next better deal. Then they’ve got to find a DC late in the cycle (just don’t come for Clark), and they have that brutal schedule coming up in 2019. Karma, is all.

Yeah, I'm fine poking fun at A&M anytime, but I do hope they stay away from our guys this time.

Wouldn't the Bengals be too cheap to buy out Elko's contract anyways?

It seems like they're giving Zac Taylor whatever he wants right now.

Mike Brown isn't calling the shots anymore, it seems.

Serious question: ND fans still care about Mike Elko?

Secondly, Clark is a far better coach for us, and I am 110% thankful Elko bounced.

Haven't you ever been to a high school reunion? You bring your hot, new wife to parade her in front of your old girlfriend who broke your heart. You've never done that?

Yeah, me neither...

After reading this, next time Clark's thread gets bumped is going to be a particular heart in mouth moment.

its his daughter than runs it now right

She’s been running the show, along with Marvin and Duke Tobin (essentially their GM), but Brown was still vetoing a lot of things that would have brought the franchise along.

It appears that she’s got full control now, without worrying about vetos. Never in a million years would Brown have allowed an outside hire to have so much autonomy so soon.

The crazy thing is stuff is so cheap down in college station. You can get a 4,000+ square foot house for $500,000 which is insane compared to south Florida. $2M is huge money. You do 5 years of that and you don’t need to work anymore. Obviously he’s gunning for as much as he can while the getting’s good in college football. Curious if he’ll ever get a number that has him satisfied or if he’ll keep pricing himself up and up and look for a HC job eventually.

Can't blame him for getting as much as he can. Though I would wager that a 4,000 SF home in South Bend is less than $500K. Given he was offered a raise to stay, I would venture to think that one of the main reasons he left, was the ability to recruit a wider range of kids since the academic restrictions wouldn't be there. Throw in a few extra 100K's and the decision is fairly easy.

I don't see any mystery here. SEC is the Money Pot. Upper tier SEC schools will go "unlimited" to try to win. Once he's milked that cow for all he's worth (and more), his pride will take over and he'll go for a Head Coaching job --- but hanging around a bit might open up some lower SEC HC spot. ... as always with most of these guys: follow the money.

I'm really hoping that our guy (Lea) has a different "philosophy."

The two big Texas schools are suddenly very eager to start using some of their oil money to buy their way back to the top.

Texas A&M offered Jimbo Fischer a ridiculous contract, but he is also allegedly getting huge stock in oil companies owned by donors/alumns/BOR people.

Three or four years ago, Texas supposedly made a legit play for Nick Saban by offering to make him the highest paid coach in the country, and also essentially making him one of the richest independent businessmen in Texas via stock options for hundreds of different oil and real estate companies (allegedly).

Everyone at Texas was almost 100% certain that Saban was going to be their next coach, just based on the ridiculous financial benefits they were offering. Like "offer he can't refuse" type of stuff.

I'd love to know what Bama offered that is "off the books" that kept him in place.

Y'all can't forget that Texas has other great things to throw in their pitch too: the ability to recruit without going very far. ISD has maintained that that was a factor.

Most importantly, HEB and Buc-ee's just won't be found anywhere else. That seals the deal (though you have to work for a cult university, but eh)

From what I understand, Wa-Wa's is much smaller than a Buc-ee's, which is a road stop. Idk of any actually in a town. I'd think that they would fit different categories.

I think a guy like Saban cares more about securing his legacy than making as much $ as humanly possible. Not that he doesn't try to do well for himself, but I think that a guy like that has being one of the most successful CFB coaches of all time higher on his priority list than being filthy rich. 15-20 years from now, CFB fans will still be talking about Saban. How much do you think we'll be hearing about Jimbo, no matter how much oil money gets thrown his way?

And it isn't like Saban isn't making bank anyway, but yeah I agree with your point.

I discovered Buc-ee's corner stores along SH 35 between Houston and Alvin, 2 of them. I asked someone abut them and they said that's where they started....as corner stores.

Love the Beaver.

Yeah, Saban's filthy rich. Maybe not billionaire filthy, but filthy enough he can live the rest of his life in luxury and still leave a load for his kids & grandkids and throw several million back to Bama for a foundation or scholarship.

We don't discuss that low life around here anymore. lol

Haha keep up the good work patrolling us hooligans who are bringing up the demons of the '17 season. You're on a roll.

No more Hard Rock Stadium, no more Elko. I can dig it.

Like I tell my staff when they keep complaining about something for several days. "You've got the rest of the day to whine then I don't want to hear another word". lol

I mean, he could have stayed at ND instead of chasing a paycheck...no sympathy.
