Ironically, Miami played man a ton but went soft/bad cover 3 most of the 2 minute drill drive that Carr diced up. Only to run man on the TD slant.

It was reiterated numerous times during the broadcast that both teams consider themselves offensive/defensive line driven teams.

In 2025, Notre Dame lost the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball against Miami, and hence lost the game. Last night, it was a reversal of roles. The Notre Dame defensive front was quick, aggressive, penetrating and disruptive. Mensah had to reset his feet multiple times, and with his lack of arm strength, it resulted in his worst performance of the year. On the other side, the stellar play by Will Black and Guerby Lambert erased the edge pressure of the Miami defense, and CJ Carr was able to get locked in after a spotty first quarter. After that opening stanza, Carr was decisive, accurate and in complete control. The run game wasn't great between the tackles (Craig and Absher were worked by Moten and Scott most of the night), but it was effective when it was needed.

The lucky bounce for Miami on the Elija Lofton fumble that resulted in Leonard Moore getting banged up swung the game. That was the break point between Miami making a comeback versus being run out of the building. The defense played too soft in coverage in some instances for my taste, since the pass rush was so effective it was going to limit the Hurricanes' ability to throw deep anyway. No matter, the defense made the stops when they needed to, and Marcus Freeman got his signature win.

Special teams had a poor night on kicks, but thankfully, it didn't cost ND the win.

Big props to the entire defensive line, Jayden Sanders, Luke Talich, Christian Gray, Black, Lambert, Carr, Nolan James, Micah Gilbert and Mylan Graham making an impact for the first time this year. Excellent toe tapping by Jordan Faison on the first touchdown of the night.

Very good night's overall for Mike Denbrock and Chris (tr)Ash. Much more assertive tone and style compared to the opener in Miami a year ago.

The team needs some rest and recovery after a very physical game last night and an always tough game with Navy that threatens the legs of the line and linebackers. Need to put the wood to BC early and often to open things up for the reserves in the second half.

One final note - Cristobal is a complete bitch. To openly cry and moan at the presser about the non-catch by Lofton is a disgraceful showing by a supposed leader of men. That's the sort of thing that permeates to a team, and that's not a good thing. Loser move by a loser coach.

GO IRISH!!!!!

Just got back to Ohio... I have been to home games against Texas, Michigan, USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and IU... last night trumps them all. From the time I parked and stepped on campus, you could feel the energy.

A couple of things moving forward...

We have to try and get healthy (obviously). We knew the McKinney injury would be a big blow and sure enough, it showed last night. Zackery struggled mightily and that is putting it mildly. If/When Tae comes back, what do you do with him? Talich is playing lights out and cannot come off of the field right now.

Besides Bowen, should we expect every one else to be back for the Playoffs?

I am sure it will be addressed, but it was alarming how disrupted Moten and Scott were in the second half when they were 0 Techniques across from Craig. I could be wrong, but I don't think you'll find a better pair of DTs in the country than those two. I am sure other teams will look to do the same against Craig.

Overall, it was the perfect weekend. Enjoy it for another day and get the focus set on Boston College. Winning a big time game this season and then laying an egg the next weekend has been a common theme this season. Three more one game seasons fellas.

This is pretty good coverage by both. But I can’t help but see one player gives 110% effort to finish through the play and one doesn’t

As per usual I don't pretend to know about DB play/roles/responsibilities, so am I stupid for wondering if Talich can become a SS for us so that we can play him and Tae at the same time?

Shuler was playing FS most of the game. When Moore went down it felt like they switched and I’m not really sure the logic behind that. On this in particular, I think Miami went pretty quick to the line so that may have else prevented matching up as desired

Ok so based on that it seems like the roles are interchangeable enough, and that we should be seeing Tae and Talich on the field at the same time come playoffs. Sounds awesome.

We've been talking about the need to complete the catch for what seems like forever. This one wasn't even close. I can't believe Cristobal would get up there and bitch about it. I understand the Miami fans, they're mostly geeked out on coke. So that makes sense.

Cristobal is the perfect coach for their fanbase. Talks mad shit, then has emotional meltdowns any time something doesn't go his way.

Also, it was quite obviously not a catch to anyone with working knowledge of how catches have been officiated for decades. There was nothing novel or controversial about the play, he knew he dropped it.

So my family had been dealing with the flu all week, I stayed up alone and watched the game fighting a little bit of a fever and taking medicine while also drinking some beer, after the victory I then decided to have a few rips of some bourbon. Anywho long story short I’m an idiot, I woke up today with a 30 pound weight on my chest and couldn’t stop coughing so I go to immediate care bright and early and low and behold I have pneumonia.lol

Moral of the story, totally worth it. Go Irish

Funny but also potentially serious. Good luck and maybe lay off the bourbon for a while.

Feel better man! Glad you caught it early.

@Irish#1 we need a new like emoji. I've wanted to say prayers, feel better, and condolences a few times today, but none of the current ones felt appropriate.

This thread is a hoot. They’re the least self-aware fanbase I’ve ever seen 😂

  • No fanbase deserves that outcome of that game more than Miami. The absolute worst fanbase in America.
  • It wasn't a catch. All the middle aged Cane fans with a podcast working together can't find a single referee who thinks it was a catch.
  • Michael Irvin is an American embarrassment
  • We need to stop critiquing every single snap of every game. ND just beat the #1 team in the country. Every snap isn't gong to be perfect.
  • That said....Jesus H, the slant routes to that Duke kid were frustrating.
