Ironically, Miami played man a ton but went soft/bad cover 3 most of the 2 minute drill drive that Carr diced up. Only to run man on the TD slant.

It was reiterated numerous times during the broadcast that both teams consider themselves offensive/defensive line driven teams.

In 2025, Notre Dame lost the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball against Miami, and hence lost the game. Last night, it was a reversal of roles. The Notre Dame defensive front was quick, aggressive, penetrating and disruptive. Mensah had to reset his feet multiple times, and with his lack of arm strength, it resulted in his worst performance of the year. On the other side, the stellar play by Will Black and Guerby Lambert erased the edge pressure of the Miami defense, and CJ Carr was able to get locked in after a spotty first quarter. After that opening stanza, Carr was decisive, accurate and in complete control. The run game wasn't great between the tackles (Craig and Absher were worked by Moten and Scott most of the night), but it was effective when it was needed.

The lucky bounce for Miami on the Elija Lofton fumble that resulted in Leonard Moore getting banged up swung the game. That was the break point between Miami making a comeback versus being run out of the building. The defense played too soft in coverage in some instances for my taste, since the pass rush was so effective it was going to limit the Hurricanes' ability to throw deep anyway. No matter, the defense made the stops when they needed to, and Marcus Freeman got his signature win.

Special teams had a poor night on kicks, but thankfully, it didn't cost ND the win.

Big props to the entire defensive line, Jayden Sanders, Luke Talich, Christian Gray, Black, Lambert, Carr, Nolan James, Micah Gilbert and Mylan Graham making an impact for the first time this year. Excellent toe tapping by Jordan Faison on the first touchdown of the night.

Very good night's overall for Mike Denbrock and Chris (tr)Ash. Much more assertive tone and style compared to the opener in Miami a year ago.

The team needs some rest and recovery after a very physical game last night and an always tough game with Navy that threatens the legs of the line and linebackers. Need to put the wood to BC early and often to open things up for the reserves in the second half.

One final note - Cristobal is a complete bitch. To openly cry and moan at the presser about the non-catch by Lofton is a disgraceful showing by a supposed leader of men. That's the sort of thing that permeates to a team, and that's not a good thing. Loser move by a loser coach.

GO IRISH!!!!!
