No and they gave up 160+ yards to the Marshall backup RB. Granted he was a 5-star recruit who couldn’t find his footing at FSU so I’m not saying he’s talentless but to gash that ND front like that? Inexcusable.

Marshall should never come to ND and have the chance to run the ball the entire second half. Should have been up 3 scores early in the 3rd and forced them to pass every down

Talked to a Marshall guy in Warsaw on the way home today. He said their coach brought in TWENTY FOUR guys from the portal along with 24 freshmen.

Easy to turn around a team when you can bring in 5stars that didn’t pan out at FSU and a guy like Colombi who’s played in some big environments before.

Offensive line is incapable of moving the LOS. Going to need to get creative in making running lanes via blocking scheme and motions during snap.

WR group is not fast or talented.

The entire defense has a lack of fundamentals. Especially in block disengaging. We don't hit and wrap we try to catch which is big reason for missed tackles.

LB group is bad and very slow.

Coaching on both sides of the ball have lacked making adjustments.

Chris Tyree needs many many more touches.

The new turf is bad? Or perhaps has too much rubber fill. Maybe we haven't practiced on it enough I don't know but there was way too many turf monster tackles and slips today.

Talked to a guy in Warsaw on the way home today. He said their coach brought in TWENTY FOUR guys from the portal along with 24 freshmen.

Easy to turn around a team when you can bring in 5stars that didn’t pan out at FSU and a guy like Colombi who’s played in some big environments before.

I saw that stat on the telecast as well. In addition to the 24 transfers, the rest of their core are underclassmen so it looks like a perfect recipe for a shit shop but give Huff credit for building team chemistry in a short period of time b/c it’s paying off thus far.

In short, the powers that be at ND listened to the threats, feelings, and perspectives of 18-22 yr/olds instead of following a solid search process for a new head coach and team of coaches. All the talk was, the players wanted Freeman. The Tommy talk was similar.

It seems from the outside looking in that we hired Freeman and Tommy because that's what the players wanted and if we didn't there would have been some type of revolt or mass exodus. Well, now look what pot of crap we're sitting in.

I had serious concerns after the bowl game. Serious concerns. Freeman looked way over his head. He still does. While we may not be able to pinpoint all that is broken, it seems clear, MANY things are broken. And I just don't think that can be chalked up to Kelly's departure or players who exited after the 2021 season. This level of "stink" seems to be squarely on the shoulders of the current coaching staff.

It's really hard to believe these same players that stumped for this staff are showing no pride in playing for them, especially the upperclassmen. Aside from Mayer the only players on offense that are executing are the Sophomores.

So they can learn new systems in just a year and we have players that have been on the team for 2 years that can’t?

My main point in posting that was to state that ND is (currently) administratively incapable of supplementing our roster in the same manner.

Also, just sort of mind boggling to think they turned over 48/85 players in one offseason.

That matches what we saw on tv.

Styles is talented but had some issues like you referenced today. Lenzy? Let him run punt returns and give the younger guys some reps b/c he still can’t compete physically. That catch he made down the sideline but allowed the DB to force him out of bounds in the 1Q? Ugh….microcosm of his career. And he still lets balls bounce off his face mask. Thomas is young so he should get better w/ reps. Not an excuse but all the upperclassmen are injured or never developed.

I’m tired of having an unathletic LB crew. that’s probably too harsh b/c they’re athletic but they’re one-dimensional and have too many struggles to justify full time play. Other than seeing his hair flowing from his helmet, I wouldn’t know Marist played today b/c his name was never called. I know they have some promising recruits but why can’t Kollie & others get more burn? Maybe they did & I missed it.

agreed w/ Tyree. He worked his ass off too bulk up and it’s looked to pay off. Combining a three headed monster at RB w/ an inconsistent e run game will never amount to anything but 3rd & longs. Commit to a feature back & commit to the run.

I noted the same thing about the turf. How many receivers simply fell down after a catch w/o being touched today? It’s ND’s home turf, yet Mayer & the other WR/TE continue to fall down after the catch.

Another great point! The players in the post game presser kept saying they did great in camp and in practice all week but failed to execute today. WTH?!? They owe it to themselves (obviously) & the staff that they campaigned for to play to their fullest. I didn’t see that today. Perfect example was when Estime was stopped short on the 4th & 1 and Alt stood there and watched instead of trying to push him over the first down marker.

I’m afraid this is 2007-esque. It’s gonna be a long year & a lot of fun for ND haters.

HC w/ a lot of promise but is learning on the job.
OC that has zero fan support despite all the off season hype from the media
Defensive unit that was supposed to be the bright spot failed the team when it was obvious the offense was only going to be able to score enough to win by three.
OL Coach who was lauded as one of the best in the game has now be relegated to worse than Jeff Quinn & at least Quinn could recruit.
Zero threats at WR
QB who can only throw fastballs and lacks any touch on passes that require it.
Returning Seniors who bypassed the NFL (Patterson/Foskey/Ademilola) but have had zero to negative impact on both games.

As successful a program as ND has been since 2017, it’s looking like a complete rebuild after two games.
