If I were Freeman, I would start off by expressing how surprised I am to be invited to the national championship pregame show considering that ESPN didn't seem to want Notre Dame near the playoff.
hah one can dream... he wouldn't even take a very warranted shot at USC

Kill 'em with kindness. He's doing the Holtz "Golly, shucks, gee wiz" bit and it's perfect. Publicly, he's the nice Blasian guy from Ohio with six kids who preaches the Notre Dame gospel. Behind closed doors, he's Vecna twisting James Franklin and Pat Narduzzi into upside down pretzels. I like it this way.

He’s better than all of us but we are bitter cynical fans…LOL. Taking the high road is the right tact to take but I also wouldn’t be surprised if someone like Saban or Galloway praise ND’s season w/o opening the can of worms about ND being left out. You know the entire panel will kiss his ass off air but that will never see the light of day. Too bad he can’t bring Shane Gillis with him.

Yup. We can all imagine him going off but this is the proper way. Remember this time last year how many casual fans & even haters admitted how likeable ND is now? It’s all b/c of him. He lost some of that in post Dec 3rd but it was more of an ND thing overall and a reason for the haters to reflex back to “entitled ND!” “1988”, etc. Freeman being on the show likely gets more exposure via X than actual viewers.

It would be fun for him to salt the earth while on their own show but that really doesn't help NDs position at the end of the day. As long as ESPN holds the immense power of basically running the CFP and all messaging around it, he's going to cozy up to them to improve our position.

I get it. But would have been cool to tear into USC, considering ND's not likely to play them again while MF is here.

"Honestly, we would have beaten either of these teams. We looked at Mendoza in the portal and passed, and Indiana's best OL is only there because he wasn't good enough to start for us. As for Miami? They beat us by a field goal at home in our QB's first-ever game. If the ACC hadn't been so thirsty for an opening-weekend blockbuster and we'd played them in November like we were supposed to, we would have stomped them. See you next season." - MFMF.

Not his job to do that, and we may very well play them again while he's here, and when they do you can bet he and his program will be highly motivated for that. It's not at all who he is, and I'm perfectly fine with that. His mentors are Lou Holtz and Jim Tressel, among others. He's shown that he's measured and will take the high road more often than not.

I take zero issue with how he projects himself. We live in a world of loud obnoxious trolling and sportsmanship is dying on the vine because of it. Let the play between the hashes do the talking. Remember this guy's background: US Military dad, Midwestern values, etc. When he talks about "Choose Hard" and "Delayed Gratification", those aren't just t-shirt slogans. I think this dude is sincere to his core when he talks about those kinds of things. When he says he'll be Kenny Minchey's biggest fan, he means it.

Behind closed doors, he's a killer, though. Look at how he's handled situations with James Franklin and Pat Narduzzi.

I dig that about him.

He's a head coach so he's likely going to say, "We didn't get it done those first two games and that's on us." Everyone will nod in agreement. He's not going to get into advanced stats or hypotheticals. Those guys don't live in that headspace. I'm sure they'll grill him on declining a bowl game as well as the NFL. I have full faith that these ESPN bozos will treat this like a clown show and try and put Freeman in a vice. In the end, he'll come out looking savvy, like usual. I think he's a genuinely good dude and despite people's eagerness to tear down ND, Freeman has a gentle lion's touch about him and can maneuver these types of situations better than most. Chill on the outside, but ready to crush you on the inside. I have full faith he'll do just fine and ESPN will continue to look like the idiots that they are.

This is clearly ESPN’s perverted rectification for the playoff snub, and akin to “sorry, we have to let you go, but you can keep this stapler.”

He needs to be there though. Lots of kids will be watching and see a coach they want to play for.

I hate that ESPN is hitting the jackpot having MF on. There couldn't be a more perfect dude to talk about these two teams. He played Indiana last year and Miami at the beginning of this one. If anybody has good insight to the challenges that both present it's him. Couple that with he's possibly the most likeable guy you could possibly put on TV. I wish he would go full torch on one of the jackasses on gameday, but he's too classy to do that.

Of those who have commented about how Freeman operates as a leader, you are one of the ones who actual gets it. Integrity and authenticity are absolutely critical to the foundations of how he's chosen to lead.

We aren't playing them before 2030, they suck.
All that other stuff you spouted, whatever. Never hurts to talk a little shit about USC.

"Blame me"

His exact words about the USC scheduling. Golden.

SC can't duck anyone in a playoff game, but they also have to get into the playoff first.

Finally listened to Coach’s press conference, I know it is two totally different things, but the ESPN/CFP slight and national fallout over skipping a bowl, feels so similar to the inaccurate initial reporting and gotcha headlines that came out of the situation at the wrestling meet. I find it amazing how people love to drag down and “hate on” anyone or anything that endeavors to do right. People are so cynical, they don’t even want you to try and do things differently if it in any way separates you from the rest. Important reminders for us all.
With all the talk about Coach’s long term future. I really feel like he was made to be the ball coach of this institution at this time, and this institution does things the way that it does because it is run, attracts and fosters individuals like Marcus Freeman. The man has met the moment, and he is where he is supposed to be for now.

Would be absolutely hilarious for him to bring Gillis and let him be his pitbull he unleashes on everyone to say what we’re all thinking

I can't watch it now, because I will be let down when he doesn't actually say this.
