It takes time to grow into the head job. I think he’s had some great wins and some terrible losses, which he’s grown and learned from. And if we’re being honest, there were a lot of people counting potential losses on the schedule after NIU. He’s shouldered the burden like a man and his team has responded by following the commanders intent. I think he has the chance to grow and become a special coach. He is relatable and genuine and you can see the toughness and culture he has instilled in the program. Personally I think the future is bright.

Keep telling yourself he is great.

What exactly makes you think he's a good coach now? Because we played one of the softest schedules in recent history for ND? The current SOS average rank is 70th in the nation, one of the weakest in at least the last 20 years for an ND team.

Congrats Marcus on beating a very weak schedule AFTER losing to NIU with a once-in-a-generation defense for ND. Well done.
Nothing will ingratiate you with ND fans like posting Matt Fortuna articles. That will get them on your side.

I feel like there's always bad luck after a signing. Maybe it's the negotiations taking away from prep time, lack of focus, I don't know. Doesn't matter if it's coaches or professional players, always seems like there's a dip in productivity right after a signing. Do it after the season.

The article is pointless other than the average SOS shared. Didn’t even read the article myself. Only shared it for those who would cry “source!” if I hadn’t

Let’s just wait until after playoff round 1 for further hot takes at this point
Agreed.

I was waiting until the USC game and/or playoff game 1 to see if Freeman could prove me wrong.

Irishnd31 decided to prematurely throw out his opinion after we beat Army as if that was a milestone win proving my take from early season was wrong. 😆

There are several signs that suggest we should be optimistic about him being a good, maybe great, coach.

They play with effort from start to finish. Every coach talks about effort but it is clear that effort is a point of emphasis when I watch them. Watch off the ball things like getting down field to make a block, or better yet, their effort to sustain blocks or attempt to sustain blocks. They're always giving effort. On defense they're working hard to shed blocks and swarming to the ball. From start to finish they are always hustling.

They play with intensity and violence routinely. It seems like effort has been made to build a culture of toughness.

Players are mentally and physically prepared to play. Several backups and freshman have stepped in due to injury and it's been relatively seamless. That's a good sign.

I don't hear about any off field bullshit and it appears the team is locked in. Could be a facade, I don't know. But it looks like he has full command of the team.

And if they beat USuCk and win a playoff game, you’ll move the goalposts again. It’s your schtick. You’re a troll. If you don’t think MFMF is a really good coach you’re a bufoon. They are steamrolling teams in a manner unseen over the last 10-15 yrs here. Take your weak takes elsewhere.

Guys cut him some slack. If you ever peruse the political threads you'd know Bobbyok is just a fucking moron. He can't help it.

And I'm able to say this because he's such a baby bitch snowflake he has me and anyone else that disagrees with him blocked.

My favorite part about MFMF is that he keeps the foot on the pedal. I’m sure Denbrock having full control of the offense is part of it, but you don’t let Angeli throw the ball 6 times to start the first garbage time drive without the HC’s blessing.

BK’s team probably wins that game 31-14 in a game that wasn’t nearly as close as the score would’ve indicated, and a bunch of key youngsters would’ve missed out on 20 plays worth of live game reps because of it.

How do you build a program that competes for championships yearly? Beat teams bad enough that your depth players and talented freshman go into the offseason with plenty of reps under their belt.. then supplement with elite recruits and transfer portal targets where necessary.

MFMF has ND pretty well-rounded right now. I think the team can make a run if they handle business next week and avoid Lincoln Riley blowing his entire load of offensive acumen in an upset bid. There isn’t a single dominant team except maybe Oregon or OSU, but Oregon is largely untested with the exception of one game, and OSU’s coach might not be as good a coach as our own at this point. And it’s amazing that ND looks capable of getting hot at the right time, on both sides of the ball, considering all the injuries.

I honestly think ND wins the natty handily this year by virtue of not allowing anyone to score more than 14 points in any given game if they had everyone on defense healthy. BenMo to go opposite Gray and his development, and two extra pass rushers to spell Junior/Bryce/Onye would have Golden playing on god mode.

The only thing that’s gonna hold this program back year-to-year at this point is missing at QB or missing a must-have portal target at a key position, or piling up injuries like this year… and they still might be able to shock everyone this year.

TL;DR put some respect on MFMF’s name

Nope it's a compliment and from the start has always meant to be a compliment. As the one who can with almost 100 percent certainty claim to be the one that started it... You're motion is noted and denied

I remember talking to my wife while driving from the NIU game, "I think I'm at a point where I need to decide do I want Notre Dame to sell it's soul and be great, or do I want a good person leading it"... thank you MFMF for still giving us hope for both!!

Beat SC! ☘️

This. All of this.

I was saying Saturday night the same thing about how these games would be closer with BK as HC. I like that they are getting these 2s and 3s reps, especially in this particular era where it's going to take multiple wins to get a championship. Rotation is going to be important going forward.

I thought maybe it was the Grey Goose talking on Saturday night, but I Thought about it more yesterday and this morning. I think this is the year. They can get it done. Strong Defense, good OL, Love as the playmaker out of the backfield. Get it done.

Finish it.

I will not move the goalposts if Freeman beats SC and wins a first-round game. To begin with, I've never moved the goalposts. If Freeman can accomplish those two things, my mind will genuinely shift, and I will be glad to acknowledge that he is a better head coach than I currently think.

Your take that this is my schtick is a complete joke. Sounds like a schtick of your own that you toss around at people you disagree with. not going anywhere, so feel free to "ignore" if you don't want a take outside your echo chamber

If MF leads our Irish to a NC this year, Bobby would figure out a way to downgrade it, “didn’t win by large enough difference, only won because opponent had turnovers, etc.”
Ridiculous take. Would never happen. I am all for Freeman outperforming my expectations. I just don't think he will. If he does, I will celebrate the second national championship in my lifetime along with the rest of Irish nation. AND Freeman will forever be established as one of the great ND coaches.

Not only that but I would be excited for a potential dynasty if he pulled off a natty this year. But even if he never built a dynasty (very tough to do anywhere by any coach), I would still hold him in high regard as one of the ND greats if he wins a National Championship at Notre Dame at any point in his career. But, none of that is required for my views to change on him this year. If he beats SC and wins a first round against anyone, my view will shift on him for the better.

Isn’t calling this a “once in a generation” defense kinda dumb if the schedule is supposedly “one of the softest in recent ND history”?
