Honeymoon period is over and it’s officially a big year for Freeman.

With the schedule we have, if we don’t win our first playoff game (or worse, qualify), then it’s time to take a serious look in the mirror.

Week 1 at Texas A&M could be a program defining result.
The must win is one of tamu or a playoff game against a P4 opponent. Doesn’t have to be both but gotta be one

I'm not going to lie, if MFMF goes undefeated and wins a title, Riley throws for 4000 yards and we land two stud receivers during the season I honestly would be so bought in. I'm not even sugar coating it.

Thanks for not sugarcoating it. I, too, would be pleased with the (totally feasible) above outcome.

Ummm you aren’t bought in when aspirational goals are accomplished… you’re there

If it takes us winning a championship to get championship players and coaches, we’re in trouble

I love this bar!

I heard he doesn't mind you watching from the bushes, but you gotta put the pants back on.
Live look of Granger outside Freeman's house

I mean he’s not a player so I don’t care. Looks like he only activated his quads in that old man squat though…gross

Lol, that's really putting yourself out there. Kelly, Tyrone, Chuck, Davie?

Now if you said favorite coach since Ara...
I liked Charlie Weis a lot, sad how his career ended. Really good guy.

Same. Charlie did some good stuff, those offenses were pretty damn good against most teams. He struggled with defense unfortunately, and he got saddled in 2007 with a lot of inexperience and poor recruiting under Willingham that caught up to him.

I still like Kelly for what he was able to accomplish in his time here and for the positive changes he brought to the program. We made strides to close the gap a bit with the elite programs. It always felt a bit like he had one foot out the door and he wasn't all in like Freeman is, but he definitely left the program in a better place than he found it in.

Freeman just has the right attitude and I think he knows what we need to do to take the next step. Hopefully he executes and we end up building him a statue.

Boob Davie and Willingham were pretty awful.

Charlie Weis could recruit, if he surrounded himself with better coaches like Kelly and Freeman has/had I think he would've had more success at Notre Dame.

I felt like Kelly turned around the program in a good culture way.

Freeman is the guy that can take this program to the next level.

Man you have to love a coach that puts in work himself. And damn Freeman is stronger than I would’ve guessed. He’s a true lifelong fitness guy. Awesome share.

Now get all the assistants in the gym with ya Marcus.

Ever since Lou left, no other coach has reminded me of Lou besides Freeman.

I agree with the both of you, ND is lucky to have Freeman.
The thing is, in a lot of ways, Lou and Freeman are so wildly different.
Lou is/was a tough little SOB, almost weirdly intense, chip on his shoulder, weighed 100-and-nothing (did he even play football? If he did he's even tougher than he looks), old-school top-down coach. Freeman? Gifted athlete, smooth and polished, a hoodie model with a large and beautiful family, and a players coach (at a time when that's a big asset).
What they have in common? They both understand and love Notre Dame for what it is. And that's probably the hardest quality to hire for.
