Ever since Lou left, no other coach has reminded me of Lou besides Freeman.
I agree with the both of you, ND is lucky to have Freeman.
The thing is, in a lot of ways, Lou and Freeman are so wildly different.
Lou is/was a tough little SOB, almost weirdly intense, chip on his shoulder, weighed 100-and-nothing (did he even play football? If he did he's even tougher than he looks), old-school top-down coach. Freeman? Gifted athlete, smooth and polished, a hoodie model with a large and beautiful family, and a players coach (at a time when that's a big asset).
What they have in common? They both understand and love Notre Dame for what it is. And that's probably the hardest quality to hire for.
