Streaky series and geographic separation leads to ups and downs. Hard for the hammer to hate the nail. USC beats us a couple of times and they'll be top of mind for everyone again.
Agree. Series has been one sided one way or the other much of my adult life. Adding to that, usually the fans are what make me dislike a team and I don't know any USC fans personally.

I will say it's nice that USC's coach is a proper villian again. Clay Helton was basically impossible to hate because he had no personality. Riley is very hateable.

UCLA is the local team I support. My childhood best friend was a Bruin TE in the late 90's and I had season tickets for about 10 years. I usually go to 1-2 Bruin games every year. If you've never tailgated at the Rose Bowl, it's truly one of the best west college football environments (you party on two golf courses directly outside of the stadium). Unfortunately, UCLA is absolutely awful this year and just canned Foster :(

Since my two favorite teams are ND and UCLA, USC is obviously the team I root hardest against. Other teams I can't stand are Miami, Michigan and Florida St!

I really began to hate USC from 2002-2011. Most of my 20s was watching Southern Cal kick our ass 8 straight times (1 forfeited though) and 9 times total across a decade. I don't miss the 2000s. That said, they have just 2 wins against us in the last 10 years so I feel like balance has been restored.

I find myself rooting for Michigan State for reasons I can’t even explain.

Wife’s family is full of UofL fans and I know they are kinda (excuse my use of this word) “thuggish” but the atmosphere at the games there is fun

Absolutely hate Michigan above all else followed by USC

The John L Smith years brought entertainment, and Dantonio got away with poor officiating in the Little Giants game, but we also stole one with Rees at QB to ruin their perfect 2013 season and keep them from playing for the national championship.

Outside of that, Michigan State is the far more respectable rival in the state of Michigan. We share a common bond, Michigan didn't want either ND or MSU in the old B1G/Western Conference and blackballed both teams. For awhile MSU wasn't allowed in, and so ND and MSU formed a regular series for scheduling purposes. Eventually MSU got in the conference, but I have way more respect for them as a result of that history.

It doesn't mention ND much, but this talks about Michigan trying (successfully) to keep MSU out of the conference for decades:

Worried about the lack of hate for usc I'm seeing here, I thought this was an ND board

Most of us live in areas where we are constantly surrounded by Michigan, OSU, or Penn State fans.

Couple that with those 3 fanbases much higher propensity to be vocal about it, and they top many personal lists.

Hated teams like FSU, USC, etc. have zero visibility in the Midwest.

There is a 99.99999% probability I will go my entire day without seeing a USC fan.

There is a 99.99999% probability I will run into one or more of the other 3.

Yes, if anybody in Michigan has zero intelligence or maturity, a huge mouth, and a pathetic life they're trying to compensate for, there's about a 95% chance they're a rabid UM sports fan who did not attend the university. I imagine similar folks can be found in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

I generally root for the Indiana teams to do well when not playing a game that impacts the Irish: IU, Ball State, Indiana State, Butler…. Except for Purdue. Fuck Purdue.

My hatred fluctuates season to season, but I have consistent hatred for Meatchicken, Florida State, Nebraska, Pedophile State

I root for IU to do well. Honestly I do the same with Kansas and the other basketball schools. I hate Michigan and USC first, then the SEC, Navy, Louisville, Penn State, Purdue, and Pitt in that next tier, and then the rest of our usual opponents in the third tier.

Can't stand the Auburn and Texas A&M fans. Neither has figured out they are a perennial 8-4, 7-5 program.

As much as LSU is a rival for Bama, and many of their fans are insufferable, but a Sat is Baton Rouge is an experience. For all the dumbass corndogs you find on the internet, there are many more great corndogs in person. Sat night in Baton Rouge is golden... tailgating the afternoon before the game should be a mandatory experience for all visiting fans. You won't leave hungry and you won't leave sober. Kind people who are passionate about their team and treat you like family... even Bama fans.

Aggy isn’t fandom, it’s a lifestyle.

I’ve noticed people’s entire personality is wrapped around Texas A&M if they are of that ilk. The kind of person that wears a class ring and mentions they were Class of ‘87 before even saying their name.

Wazzu. Idk, just up there in the middle of no where Washington. Throw in the Pirate (RIP) doing good things there, making them fun I kinda like seeing them do well.

I like seeing the academies do well.

Rooting for Vandy now thanks to Lea and also, just because it's neat seeing them do well.

Hold up so you actually root for the Wolverines over pOSU? I'm the opposite. ND and whoever is playing Michigan. can't stand them.
Historically…..definite yes. Post Conner Stallions cheating….. I now cheer for pOSU. I guess I need to change my answer to the OP’s question.

You have to understand that I’ve interacted with obnoxious buckeye fans on a weekly basis for as long as I can remember.

Purdue
1) I went there
2) I like pain

Same here. I played in the basketball band for the baby boilers, and I didn't grow up with any basketball loyalty, so I've become diehard PU BBall. Thought this would finally be my year in both sports, and then Chris Ash...

Now I just know Purdue is going to hurt me, as well.

If I wasn't a ND fan, I'd be a fan of Texas, Clemson, Georgia, or Florida. At various points of my childhood, I was enamored with those programs at one time or another. I feel that way about a handful of baseball teams too.

Teams I will never cheer for: Michigan, Purdue, Penn State, Ohio State, Bayou Brian.

OSU vs UM game: I always prefer one of two outcomes: 1) a game in which both teams look like absolute dog shit and Michigan loses or 2) a game in which OSU beats Michigan by 50.

Oddly enough, I don't hate USC. I hated losing to them during the Carroll years, but never truly hated them. USC @ ND tailgates are some of the best times I've had.

Buddy of mine at work is a huge Bama fan. Planning on going to the game in Tuscaloosa and South Bend. Always wanted to catch a game at Bryant Denny

Like: Saint John’s University, College of Saint Benedict
Hate: university of St Thomas

FBS: I am sympathetic towards Georgia Tech, because I lived in Atlanta for a bit and my wife is an alum. They have their share of a-hole fans but significantly less than UGA to the point it’s tolerable. I really dislike Clemson as a football team but they have the most welcoming fans I’ve experienced.

Obviously I hate SC, Michigan, and Miam above the others. I dislike all the Big10 and SEC, though. I don’t really like the Gophers despite growing up in MN. The exception is their hockey team, because I have family friends who played there and I grew up going to games at Mariucci. So if they aren’t playing the Irish or competing with us for Frozen Four/Big 10 championship spots I’ll be happy to cheer for them.

I kinda like Nova basketball, I have a friend who went there during the championship runs. It’s seems like it would be a fun environment to visit. Same with Xavier.

The other team i cheer for is the Univeristy of Tennessee since I live here and my son goes to school there. I always hope they do well for him.

Hate is reserved for anything maize and blue. They can choke on a bag of dicks.

I totally get it and that's the ultimate factor that leads to my passionate hate for that school in AA. Obviously, I think it depends on where you live and your proximity to the fans. I would not want to live anywhere near a Buckeye fan, either.

I've always had a soft spot for UT. Rocky Top is iconic and Neyland Stadium seems like a helluva time.
