This past weekend, my wife & I went to Denver just to get away from kids, work, and household chores for a couple of days. It was a great trip as we got to sleep late, eat at a couple of Denver's best restaurants, and my wife went to Victoria's Secret before the trip. :)

The best part was that we got to check a major item off our bucket list - something we've been talking and dreaming about since we first met. On Saturday afternoon, we jumped from a perfectly good airplane 12,500 feet above the ground. It was even more fun than expected. Totally awesome experience!

An especially cool thing (and why I'm posting all this) is who we got to jump with. We had to wait for about 2 hours for our turn to go up and jump. In the waiting area was an elderly man also making his first jump ever. He was a former Navy pilot, but said he'd never skydived before and at 82 he figured it was now or never. I chatted with the guy off and on for 2 hours and he was really witty, sharp, spry, and just a charming, interesting guy. I had no idea who he was, but at least 25 or 30 students & instructors approached him saying they'd seen him on television and asked to take a pic with him. They treated the guy like a star and he was having a blast taking pics with everyone.

After we got home from Denver, I looked him up online. Holy Cow! Watch the videos below. Trust me, it's worth the time!

Here's the video of him jumping. In the interview near the beginning, I'm not in it but I'm sitting just a few feet to his right watching him. My wife & I are so glad we got to meet this guy and go skydiving with him.

My lady and I watch America's Got Talent from time to time because of how outrageous some of the acts are. We watched this one and its pretty funny.

On the sky diving experience, I can say that I've done it as well. Arguably, one of the best experiences that I've had life to date. I'm deathly afraid of heights, so it was incredibly gratifying for me. And surprisingly, not as terrifying as I thought. Truly exhilarating experience.

I'm with you... it's one of the greatest experiences I've ever had too. Looking down from the door of the plane or after you jump somehow doesn't bother most people nearly as much as standing on the edge of a bluff or building 100 feet up. I think the ground's so far away that you don't get that fear of heights thing. Definitely an amazing and fun thing to do.

Like you I'm not crazy about heights at all but I definitely want to sky dive at least once in my life.

That sounds like an experience you will still talk about, when you are his age. (If you can remember it, that is). His generation is dwindling not so slowly. The WWII era guys are fewer and farther between. My mom's uncle was a Seabee in the Pacific Theater, in WWII. I try to see him every time I get home. He's forgotten many of the stories, but that man saw some sh!t that no one should ever have to see. His Seabee unit recovered the bodies of all of the Marines after the initial assault on Guadalcanal.

Good God that guy is a baller.

Every time I fly I end up with white knuckles and praying to God most of the flight. Dad gave me a Xanax for the last flight and it did nothing for me. Zero percent chance I'll ever sky dive.

Oh yeah, that guy is definitely a baller and an inspiration. I hope I'm still kicking it like that at 82.

I've only been stressed out twice on a plane... flying into the Denver airport during some particularly bad turbulence on approach and once while flying with a friend in a very small plane when we got caught in a storm. Flying just doesn't bother me. Jumping out of the plane didn't bother me at all. I understand why it's not fun for a lot of people, though.

There was a problem processing the video & pics of my jump, so I didn't get to leave with them (still haven't seen any of them), but they're expected in the mail in a few days. Here are two of my wife in the meantime. She was having a BLAST!

I remember watching him on AGT. Cracked me up. Glad to you to cross off an item on the bucket list.

It was very cool to meet John and get to jump with him. I just think it's great to see somebody his age still living large and enjoying life this much. Drowning Pool's loved the publicity they've gotten from his appearance on AGT and they've had him appear onstage with them doing the song.

Loved getting to check skydiving off my bucket list! My wife is still grinning from ear to ear. She said it was the best 45 seconds of her life and laughed. Not sure what she meant by that.

You wife still sounds pretty cool, even if she wasn't the one that teased a threesome.

My wife is very cool and a lot of fun! Her idea of a threesome, though, is her and her best friend drinking beer while watching me clean the gutters.
