The Deadspin authors are still on the media circuit talking about all the "holes" in the story. And in the court of public opinion, the haters seem to be winning the argument at the moment.

EDIT: Also, "Manti is gay" seems to be picking up steam.

There won't be any long term affects. Te'o rather in the wrong or not was one football player. Since it is ND it is overblown right now. If this was say an NIU football player this wouldn't even be national story. It isn't some serious legal issue ala Penn State. Worse case scenario is that one football lied. Who the heck hasn't lied. BTW I have been suggesting all along folks hold off judgement. A week and half from now this form won't getting hardly any posts.

Do you doubt that a former player said that? I don't. But I do think that the former player added nothing substantive to the story.

A former player may have said that, but why didn't he attach his name to it? Just because he said it doesn't mean it is true. This entire story should tell you that.

Anyone doing any reporting on this is sure to check and double check any facts going forward.

On a side note concerning the several reports about teammates questioning wheher Lennay was real or not and the extra attention Manti was getting. If this is true, BK did a hell of a job keeping this team focused and on track. Not all of the players are going to like each other and some might be jealous where they could stir something up, but you never saw that all year.

Also, the more I hear, the more I think this thing is being looked at for substantial criminal charges. Think about it. One of the few things everybody agrees upon is that Manti's performance in the NC game was affected.

I don't think that anybody would construct anything this elaborate to gain a Heisman, or a point spread advantage; but someone would do it to obtain long term financial gain.

And if someone untoward found out about it in December, THEY might have used it for a point spread advantage. If that is the case you have big time Feds all over it, and you won't even know about it. (Quite before the storm.)

He didn't attach his name to it because he did not want to call out Manti puclically. Its a jerk move. But I don't believe ESPN would lie about the source, and the information he gave seemed plausible and did not alter the story significantly.

As far as the friend, they know who she is. She stuck her neck into the middle of this, and I'm sure they checked her out to make sure things match up. Is she telling the truth? I don't know, but its a pretty crazy move for someone with legitimate ties to the hozxer to call up a national media outlet if she's lying.
