Gene Woj is blowing up Manti....

Fvcking dickhead.

At the raw bones of it....do you REALLY believe that Manti could put on an act like that and show that kinda emotion in interviews??

No matter what WE think on this board, this situation is not good for Notre Dame. At all.

ESPN can control public perception and already has Gene Wojo on, saying nonsense. Manti's character is taking a hit. The whole university is.

Hmmm...after reading the Deadspin article, and realizing the facts and connections, I'm not sure I'm buying that Te'o wasn't in on the hoax. Am I pissed? Well, not pissed, as it was an inspirational motive possibly that helped lead us to 12-0 in the regular season. I'm a little confused, and not so sure I should have worn a lei to the Michigan State game, even if his grandmother did actually die. I just kinda have to laugh at this point after the last week and a half, we went from feast to famine so to speak. The off season has just begun!

Unfortunately I'll have to wait for Manti's interview to come to my own conclusion. As of right now, if Manti can make JS believe in him so much that he cries I have to lean towards believing that this was an incredible hoax that took full advantage of a gullible person. Manti needs to admit to making a few small lies that covered up the fact that he never met this girl in person (I think most would be understanding). I think one key point that would have saved Manti and ND from having to explain the situation in detail would be if they contacted law enforcement (even if it would lead nowhere). To be honest, that's one part of the story I can't get my head around.

I love how we always set the record for most posters on the site when bad things happen.

Before this it was the NC game. Before that it was Greenberry's signing day flip, and before that it was the 2011 Michigan game.

If he would have said, "we will be releasing our full report, including logs of the perpetrators' conversation."

This story just seems to have too many holes. It is too strange.

There are some things that I would like to hear Manti answer such as why he didn't visit her in hospital or go to her grave and similar things.

But if Swarbrick says there is evidence then I have to believe that the evidence exists or at the very least they believe they have evidence.

Think about it, if ND found out about it on the 26th of Dec they have had about 3 weeks to prepare for this moment. There's no way with that amount of prep time the ND athletic director is going to let the university get caught up in another lie by pretending there is evidence when it doesn't exist. If he were to do that then it would be needlessly putting the university at risk.

Swarbrick and Te'o are lying. Who refers to a girl they have never met and who has fails to show up for several face to face meetings as their girlfiend?

I hope that Manti comes through this ok and can appreciate that the university are in an incredibly tough position. There is a chance that omerta wins out but too many elements of the story will fail to mesh together as to leave several questions without a satisfactory answer.

Ray Lewis has managed a storied NFL career and there was circumstantial evidence that he was implicated in a double homicide. Te'o may make it through and is fortunate that the NFL playoffs are likely to dictate that the initial story will begin to lose momentum by Saturday.

However this is the type of case which is likely to be scrtuinised in detail; such that it may be revisited when all the facts are gathered and a slow news window presents itself.

Because faking a girlfriend, is as bad as homicide.....

Thanks, we all feel better now that you've cleard that up.

Press conference is over and all there is to say is that 1) this situation is beyond ****ed up, 2) Manti still looks like the amazing human being we thought he was, albeit oddly naive, and 3) if Jack Swarbrick had Bob Diaco's hair he would be an unstoppable force.

Dead ON! He did a great handling this news conference.

I'm sticking to the possible blackmail / extortion case.

This stinks like a dead floating chupacabra having feasted on a 35 foot long radioactive squid.

In the Sahara desert; mind blown.

Well lets assume he thought she was real and dying from leukemia. He is a known image playing for a school on a national stage and has since he arrived. For FOUR years. He meets her online, thinks she gets sick and doesn't want to blow her off because he is a stand up somewhat naive fellow. When she dies he pays tribute to her and thinks it is over.
Then it isn't. Seems simple enough and could very well be that simple. Lets wait and see how it plays out. I honestly don't think he could ride that so long if he was faking. Look how he performed in the NC after he allegedly found out it was a hoax.

Who are you to make this statement? In this day in age, social media and online dating are a common place in our society. These things happen and happen often. Get used to it.

If Manti were gay (and I don't think he is) I would not give a **** about what anybody said. He would be more of a hero than he was before for crying out loud.

And if it was that it was because ND repressed him, that'd be bull. I wouldn't give a **** about that either./QUOTE]

What are you talking about? Back to reality.

Bill Motta, father of #NotreDame S Zeke Motta, a roommate of Manti Te'o: "He was telling me how devastated Manti was."

Helpful.
