2. Knowing JS, I can almost guarantee that he sat down with BK last year or earlier this year and discussed the NFL rumors that would come up once again. I feel pretty safe in saying he looked BK in the eye and asked for his commitment if JS committed to him.

A comment I've made several times to my friends. Its not a good job for a first time NFL coach.

I forgot to quote it, but whoever mentioned above about this thread being created, it was created last year when he was interviewing with the Eagles. Not this year with us making up rumors.

They have their list and BK hasn't came up once. Fisher, Meyer, Harbaugh, Strong, Mahlzahn, Franklin...

Not that it will happen here, but even the best schools swing and miss on coaching searches and hire down their list a bit... ND fans of course know this well...

Really? I'd be mad at Kelly for taking any job honestly. Even if it was NFL.

I'm on this side. Texas offers nothing besides looser academic standards and recruiting in the state of Texas easier that ND can't offer. Both had boat loads of cash, both had TV networks, both have great tradition....

I honestly will be very upset if he goes anywhere. He finally has the team that he wants and will set the team behind another couple years if he leaves now.

I mean I wouldn't be happy but I couldn't blame him for doing it. Texas is the #1 job in the country, all things considered IMO.

Moot point because I don't think they would want him.

I forgot to add Briles and a few others...Texas is the best job in America, they shouldn't have the struggles ND has to fill its HC position.

Why? Because of the ease of recruiting and Texas being football crazy? It's not like ND doesn't sell out every home game. Just curious as to why so many think UT >>>>> ND.

I've been thinking the same thing. They sure don't perform like they are the best program in the country

What does ND have that Texas doesn't? A few more championships from decades ago?

Off the top of my head, relative advantages for Texas:

1. More supportive administration
2. More passionate fan base and more alumni
3. More resources and better facilities
4. Better weather
5. Better recruiting pipelines
6. Easier standards which makes a coach's job easier. But they still have a lot more integrity and standards than the SEC.

Unlimited budget, unlimited resources for staff, best talent in the country and no one makes more money than Texas football. Yes ND has money and a national fan but football $ is capped and its more difficult to get the players here and qualified. BK has broken down a lot of former barriers but still have a ways to go.

Most valuable NCAA school.
National fanbase.
Massive recruiting base filled with home team u recruits.
The right coach could get elite kids from out of state if they wanted.
Great rivalries.
Austin is a great place.
Tons of ass everywhere.

I can go on...

1 is true.
2 I refuse to believe. ND is an international brand. You can literally go anywhere in the country and find ND fans aplenty.
3 is half true.... UT weight room is better, but the rest I think ND is at worst tied with. ND's pockets are deeeeeeeep.
4... you haven't been to Texas in the summer have you?
5 UT has the pipelines from Texas and western Louisiana, but other than that, ND has better recruiting across the country. Also, it's not like ND doesn't pull from the Republic.
6 I agree with and along with #1 is really the only major benefit I see for them over ND.

2. There are a ton of Texas alumni as they have the most undergrads. And many ND fans from the golden age are dying unfortunately so we have lost a lot of support.
4. I have actually. I don't think you can dispute that most people would prefer to live in Austin, Texas than South Bend, Indiana though.
5. Texas can recruit nationally if they want to, but they don't need to. Other than the Midwest, Texas could do just as well as ND anywhere. But their huge advantage in TX/OK is too valuable.

You forgot the most important thing of all #1 better women at Texas. That is a definite plus.

I am of the mindset that Notre Dame is the best job in the country but of course I am bias. I can see arguments both ways. I would say that they both do equally well in recruiting but it is definitely much easier at Texas when all you have to do is go next door to get a 5 star guy. Also, there is much more to do in Austin than South Bend.

Try and pay a coach Mack Brown money at ND... And that's not even factoring in assistant salaries

Texas has a bajilion more alumni than ND. Yes we have a national fan base of subway alums but what does that get us?

Have you been to South Bend in the winter? There is really no comparison between the two cities. I went to ND and travel to Austin all the time for work now. The only think that sucks there is the traffic. Kids grow up in that heat.

Yes we have to work our asses off traveling the country to try and convince kids to come to ND. Texas has the best talent in the country dying to play for them in most cases.

I can honestly say I have never run across a UT fan outside the state of Texas in my life (granted only 26 years), but I have come across random ND fans in just about every city I have been to. ND may have a small alumni base, but their nationwide Subway Domers are aplenty.

Yeah, as a whole, Austin > SB. I'll just leave that alone.

ND currently has the same number of 2014 recruits and is ranked 3 spots higher on ESPN than UT. Maybe UT should look try out of state. 20 of their 23 are from TX. The other 3 are from NOLA, NOLA, and Tampa.

I understand I won't win this argument, but I just don't see UT>ND. At worst I seem them as equal. I definitely can see y'alls side of it though. This may be my green colored glasses showing through.

This debate is about what job is better, right? So the fact that their coach can have a class that is comparable to ours with ONLY three recruits out of state means the coach has it made.

ND definitely has a wider fan base in the sense that you can find an ND fan anywhere. But there are more Texas fans overall and I'm pretty sure they travel a lot better.

I could see why a coach could choose the Texas job over the ND job if he were up for and offered both of them at the same time. But I can't imagine someone leaving one of those jobs for the other.
