I need to see some hardcore information right about now. The rumor mill is getting out of hand in regards to this situation.

Oh yes, must make sure to fleece the fans. Premium is all in the eye of the beholder. In a week when the information is out there then what? And if I actually cared enough, I bet I could dig it up.

This is getting ridiculous. Why is everyone so afraid to post anything. This is a fan message board. No one is going to rake you over the coals if your wrong. Just say up front that it is just something you heard. The only time people get ripped is when they claim to have inside info.

I understand protecting a kid's privacy but if you arent going to say anything, then just dont post. All of these posts saying something happened but Im sworn to secrecy are just ridiculous.

If i KNEW it, I'd say it, no problem. But all we got was 'it's not a made-up problem, and he could miss time'. And we don't even know for sure if that will turn out to be true. It's maddening, I agree, but what can you do?

There are others as well who say they know something but wont say exactly what they know.

Basically my point is this. If we "cant" talk about it, then why are we talking about it.

What could he have done to get in trouble? Sheesh, USC players get caught with drugs, arrested for violent acts, violence against women, rape, you name it, they do it.

What did Jonas do, cheat on a test? take someone on a beer when he is under 21?

It involves theft.

if thats the case, that sucks.....hard to forgive a thief. My father says the only thing worse than a thief is a liar...

but im suspending judgement till the facts are released

Say it aint so Jonas, say it aint so.......

if it was theft there would have been a police report and all that and we would have heard about it

Not true. If an RA deems necessary then the police would be called. Still could be too.

when i was at ND, Farmer got busted for stealing CD's out of the bookstore. he was bolting down the south quad hurdling shrubs like OJ hurdling airport seats in the old Hertz commercials. they found him under his bed in his dorm, LOLOL. i hope jonas learns from whatever he's done and becomes a better person for it.

what you need is a screen play to the short side of the field for no gain!

If all this is true that would be quite a shame. I have always felt that this kid is much better than Hughes. There is nothing Hughes can do that he can't, he is quicker than Hughes, and seems to run downhill better.

He's a Freshman, kids do stupid things. I trust that any Notre Dame Student (Will Yeatman) will be smart enough to learn from his mistakes, take his punishment (whatever it may be), and come back stronger.

LMFAO!!!!! I remember that !!! Hiding under his bed. One of the funnier 'oh shit' moments in my personal ND history. Right up there with 'finals are in 2 hours and I haven't started studying yet.'

I never heard of this incident and don't recall Farmer having to sit out a season ala Cerasani, Powers-Neal, MacAlarney, Yeatman, et al. Looking back he only missed 3 or 4 games in the '95 season due to knee ligament injury (at least that's what was reported for his absence).

Was this not a Student Affairs level incident? Or did this happen after a season and he sat out a Spring Semester?

Could an incident like that be handled by an RA and not go before Student Affairs?

tko or IrishAlum1997, can you clarify?

Also wasn't this roughly the same time period Starting Basketball Guard Doug Gottlieb got tossed for "borrowing" a classmate's credit card that was in the classmate's wallet? IRC, he got invited by Student Affairs to find a new college to attend. Something Jim Boeheim likes to frequently remind one of ESPN's finest hacks.

More than the Gray Affair, I'm curious why Gottlieb's offense/penance was apparently deemed more severe than Farmer's Fast Break To The House. Any comments?

man, i'm too old to remember the timing of all of this and the circumstances surrounding it. i know it did happen b/c one of my friends lived in his dorm and rehashed the whole thing for us. i'll do some more research on it and come back if irishalum doesn't beat me to it.

I do believe the Farmer thing was handled by the University, I really do not remember the punishment. I thought Gottlieb got the 'hookup' at Spiece sporting goods, and paid with someone else's credit card.

Sorry I don't remember exact details either, can it be Googled? These incidents (or some variation of them) did happen....if I recall, the Farmer under the bed details were in the Observer...

Gottlieb did use someone else's credit card - his roommate's. I recalled that one and it did turn up on google. Found nothing about theft and Farmer on google. I was on the Irish Recruiting Journal in '95 and '96 and don't recall even any rumors about Farmer. I don't know if it was the size of the offense dollarwise or if it was handled by the RA.

Student Life Policies

The University’s student life policies and disciplinary procedures are
under the jurisdiction of the Office of Student Affairs. All alleged
violations are at the disposition of that office through the Office of
Residence Life and Housing. Unless otherwise noted, these policies
and procedures apply to all students; undergraduate, graduate, and

professional, whether the behavior occurs on or off campus

...
d. Any theft, unauthorized possession or damage to
property.

ResLife wasn't a pushover at that time as they tossed Cerasani for popping a teammate one night outside a South Bend bar in the Spring of '97 over an insult about Cersani's terminally ill mother. If Cerasani had popped the other guy in practice he probably would have gotten a pat on the back. Instead he got a semester suspension from student activities (football in his case) which meant his terminally ill mother couldn't seem him play his last season. He appealled and was denied, so he withdrew from ND and IFC ended up at Northwestern.

Anything new on this? Seems like if there was any truth to it we would have heard SOMETHING by now.

Vaguely remember the Cerasani thing, he lived in my dorm. Wouldn't surprise me. I looked around a little bit for the Farmer thing on Google. I don't want to create any revisionist history, but I thought he was suspended for game(s), but not an entire season.

I knew we would lose one of our RB to a transfer because of the depth. I was just hoping Gray would be the last to transfer and not in this situation!

Farmer did miss 4 games in the '95 season but the official story was that was due to an injury. The '97 ND Media Guide notes that Farmer:
tore up knee ligaments (opening game against Vandy) and missed next four games ... returned to practice field the week of USC game suited up but did not play ... saw action off the bench against BC ... played against Navy .... AF ... and Florida State in '96 Orange Bowl ...

In his freshman and sophomore seasons he played in 9 games and his senior season 11. So his junior season is the only one with missing games.

I'm not disputing a Farmer incident occurred just noting that he does not appear to have suffered Res Life penalties during a season. Res Life suspended Cerasani for his Senior Fall semester. Several players have missed Spring Football due to Res Life supsensions for the Spring Semester. Powers-Neal was suspended for his Senior semester after already playing in a number of games. It's possible that Famer's situation/penalty fell in an off-season semester or that it was handled by an RA and didn't reach Res Life.

Most fans, including many of ND's, don't realize that at ND head coach doesn't mete out student athlete discipline ala Tennessee, et al. An ND coach may sit a player for violating Team Rules such as missing practice, being late for meetings, etc. However violations of student conduct at ND come under the jurisdiction of the ND Administration be it at the dorm level or at Student Affairs/Residential Life. Yeatman might have had to run the steps at The Big House or taken an extra Study Hall in Tuscaloosa but Weis didn't mete out his sentence Res Life did. And that's not new at ND, decades ago Stonebreaker lost a season for parking a roommates car on campus while he was serving a banned on driving after a DUI. Stonebreaker like Yeatman had a seemingly minor second infraction. In both cases they were already under Res Life probation terms they accepted. In both cases Res Life inacted the penalty for the subsequent violation. Stonebreaker took his medicine; Yeatman moved on.

For Jonas, it seems like no news is good news.

Theres a reason for that, you know. He brings this upon himself. I knew him personally and he stole in high school too. unfortunate that it never made it to the administration. Even if it did… free pass for the star athlete
