Gruden told Bryan Gumbel. “If the right opportunity presents itself, I will come back.”
2009 HBO's " Real Sports"

Came across an interesting article since I've heard so much of Gruden's name popping up in conversation on various sites. This particular article probably is able to dive the deepest into Gruden's Options.
The NFL Today: Arkansas, Tennessee want Jon Gruden - CBSSports.com

Would you like to see him as a college coach, NFL Coach? If so where would you like to see his return? Should he just stay behind his desk and keep belittling QB's?

That would be an interesting fit in Trojan Town, right?

That being said, I think he's an NFL guy...

I don't see him giving up his sweet TV gig, but if he were to take a job, its a big stretch, but I'd like to see him come back to the bay area and make the Cal Bears awesome.

Yeah, everybody around Tennessee land thinks its a done deal. I wonder if Arkansas fans are saying the same thing.

I haven't really kept up with this but I'm curious as to why the Gruden to Tennessee thing even came up? Because he was a graduate assistant there one year in the 80s? People seem so confident it will happen but I just wonder where that confidence comes from?

The way the Detroit Lions are playing suggests they may be looking for a coach that can instill some discipline and take advantage of the talent they have. Is Gruden the guy? I don't know, but he would be an intriguing option.

The fact that they fired Dooley already seems to be a sign they have a replacement lined up or deep into negotiations.

I suspect Gruden has been hoping for an NFL gig and is probably ready to give up on the idea for now.

I have no guesses why Tennessee would be his choice, though.

There are going to be a few openings in the NFL after this year. I'm sure he'd get consideration from several NFL teams. Not sure why Gruden would want to be a Vol.

Gruden has a small connection to UT. Met his wife there while he was an assistant there for a few years. Not sure if his wife is from TN. I'd love to see him go to UT. Especially if it keeps him from going to one of our rivals.

Cleveland Browns if he comes back. Guaranteed! Don't like it as a Bengals fan but it seems like a perfect fit. Like someone said I think he's an NFL guy and I think his connections to Ohio have him there. Plus the new owner I'd the browns has already publicly said his name.

I just don't see the Browns. Tall mountain to climb. Don't get me wrong, UT is no beauty queen, but it's much easier right now. If he goes to the Browns, IMO, total overhaul, and fundamentally you have less control in the NFL. Not as appealing geographically either. At UT, if he is willing to go college, he would immediately become a god in the Vol state. Recruits would flock in droves, and I think a somewhat quick turnaround is obtainable. UT can pay him as much as Cleveland, and his job would likely be more secure. Just my opinion inflated by my like for UT :)

Gruden to the Browns would be a interesting fit, but with that being said i dont see it happening

His wife is a Tennessee grad and former cheer leader, he is a former coach there, and he has said he'd like to retire in Tennessee in interviews (heard them on the radio last week)... Makes sense

I think Gruden will make one extremely good NCAA football coach. I honestly think he will be better than Saban, Miles, Meyer, Carroll, Hell, maybe even Kelly.

He will be a recruiting juggernaut in the SEC.

I was thinking this last week. I think in several ways, he's built for college football. Just not sure his ego lets him go there. If I'm UT, I open up the purse and give the guy whatever it takes. Instant creditibility, instant recruiting success, instant $ from alumni, back to selling out, etc., etc.. Always loved the ND/UT match up. Would love to see them back on the schedule.

as a life long Raider fan, I would like to see Gruden back in OAK. I even forgive him for the super bowl

That would be cool. Maybe when they move the team back to L.A.?? Ya never know?

I still think he loves his TV gig too much to leave it.

Maybe as many as 11 openings. I think he's an NFL guy, and Philly seems like a good fit.

Completely agree. I see Gruden's number 1 choice being Philly. He wins he'll be even more of a coaching legend. He doesn't and he goes back to TV makes a butt load of money, doesn't have to work too hard, and lives out his days.

I think Gruden is an NFL guy as well. For as much as we talk about college coaches making the jump to the NFL, how often do Super Bowl winning coaches jump down to the college ranks?
